The Lost Ocarina
Chapter 1 – “Losses”
The hot sun of the Gerudo Desert beat down on the back of his neck. “Why am I even here?” Link asked himself, looking around. All this place did was bring back bad memories. He took a last long glance at Arbiter’s Grounds. A pang shot through him. “Link… I…” “Oh no! Don’t tell me I’m going to have to hold your hand through this!!” “…that you have no words left?” “Gah!” Link said. It was too much. Why did Midna have to go? It wasn’t fair! Just wasn’t fair. Life was never fair. Link sighed and headed out of the desert. Two weeks later… Link was back in Ordon. “HEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!! LINK!!! WAKE UP!!!” Link woke up and looked out the window. It was Fado. Time for another long day at the Ranch. Link went down all the ladders in his house, and then out the door, down another ladder, and then looked at Fado. “Are the goats having issues again?” he asked. Fado shook his head. “Actually, the mayor wants you.” Link scratched his head, but headed off deeper into Ordon anyways. “Hey Link!!” Link looked down. “Hey Colin!” “So Link, what are you going to do today? Want to go fishing?” “Sorry Colin, the Mayor wants me” “Really!?!” Colin asked “What for?” Link shrugged. “I’ll see you later then!” Colin said, running off. Link watched him go with a smile. Colin was a nice kid. Link kept heading into Ordon and after many hellos he finally reached the mayor’s house. He took a deep breath, gathered his courage, and knocked on the mayor’s door. Ilia answered. “Hi Link!” she said “Hey Ilia” Link said. “Father wants you, you know that right?” Ilia asked. Link nodded. “Don’t just stand there! Come in, come in!” Ilia stood aside, letting Link in. “Well, father’s in back” Ilia said. Link smiled, nodded and headed to the back of their house. Once out of sight of Ilia he let out a sigh of relief. Talking to Ilia these days was more awkward than it used to be. “There you are Link!!” Mayor Bo said. “Hey, I heard you wanted to see me” Link said. “Erm… yes,” Bo said “I got a letter for you” “Why did you…” Link began “Not just any letter either” Bo handed Link the letter. “What the…?” Link looked at the envelope. It had golden boarders and had the Royal Family crest on it. Link opened the letter. ~ Dear Link, I know this is a bit random but, I need your help. Just come to the Castle. Queen Zelda “Whoa!” Link said “I know,” Bo said “Zelda’s Queen!!” “Erm… Link, you were there.” “Oh yeah” Link said, feeling like a complete idiot. “Well, if the Queen needs you” “I should get going, I know” Link said “I’ll go get ready” Link left. And with luck, didn’t run into Ilia on the way. Link headed back to his house, grabbed his sword and shield, then after some thought grabbed his Bow. “And of to Hyrule I go” Link said, going back outside “wait, where’d Epona go? Dangit!! Where’s Ilia!?!” Link sighed and headed off to the Spirit Spring. Surprisingly, no Ilia or Epona. Link was now confused, but he headed off to Faron woods, hoping maybe Ilia had taken Epona to the Spirit Spring there. But there was still no one to be found. Link sighed and headed back to Ordon. “Hey! Mayor!!” Link said, running up to Mayor Bo “have you seen Epona?” “No, I haven’t. Have you checked the ranch?” “No” Link said “I’ll do that right now” he ran up to the ranch. “Hey Fado!!! Have you seen Epona?” “Yes, she was here a minute ago, then Ilia came along and took her.” “Thanks!” Link called, running off again. He headed back to the Spirit Spring. “Link!” Ilia said in shock “Why are you here?” “You have my horse” Link said “Erm… yes, I do.” Ilia said “Can I have my horse?” “Don’t tell me you’re going on another adventure!” “This time it’s important!!!” “That’s what you said last time!!” “This time I mean it though” Link said, “the Queen wants me.” “Oh” Ilia seemed shocked “Well fine, just don’t do anything… out of your league” “That’s not hard to accomplish” Link muttered, hopping on Epona. “What?” Ilia asked “Nothing!” Link said quickly “Nothing at all!” “Okay, well bye!” “Bye!!” Link rode off. After trekking through Faron Woods, through Hyrule field, and making a quick stop at the Malo Mart that was in Castle Town, Link headed to the front gates of the Castle. Did he really expect them to let him in? No. Did they? Yes. Link sighed and walked in the doors of the castle. Last time he was here, things were different. Very, very, very different, not to mention the fact that Midna was still there at the time. To Link’s surprise, Zelda was there waiting for him. “Link,” she said, looking slightly shocked “Erm…” “Hi” Link said, slightly shy. It was weird being around Zelda. Considering last time… Link didn’t want to think about it, and had to refrain from shuddering at the thought. “Hi” Zelda said Also, Link and Zelda had never really had a nice long conversation together. It was always Midna who did the talking. “Umm… listen, Link, I have a slight problem. Follow me.” Zelda lead Link into a part of the Castle he had never been to before. Zelda opened the doors into a large library. Link looked around in wonder. “Now THAT is a lot of books. And I thought I had a ton.” Zelda nodded, and started looking through the books. “So uh… what is it that you needed?” Link asked, sitting down. “Well, I’ve lost something” Zelda said, pulling a book off the shelf, looking at it, and putting it back “Something incredibly important.” “And your point is…?” Link asked “I was hoping you could find it for me” Zelda said, browsing past some more books. “Why?” Link asked “Because I know it’s not in the Castle, I’ve spent the past three weeks looking for it.” Zelda sighed. “Where do you think it is?” Link asked “That’s the problem” Zelda looked at another book, and then placed it on the table “I think it’s in Snowpeak Ruins” “WHAT!?!” Link said, jumping up “don’t tell me I’m going to have to go back THERE!!” “Look, Link, I’m” “I’ll go through Forests, Volcanoes, Lakes even!!” Link said “I’ll go to the sky, back in time, heck! I’ll even go back to the des-” Link stopped, realizing that by finishing that word he was about to lie. “On second thought” he said “maybe not the desert.” Zelda had stopped briefly as she listened to Link’s rant. “I wouldn’t send you there. I couldn’t.” Link nodded and sat down again. “Thank you” he said, glad that at least someone understood. There was a moment of silence that was only filled with the clunk of books being picked up and set back down. “What is this object I’m supposed to be looking for anyways?” Link asked. Zelda handed him a book after finally deciding that it was the right one. “What’s this?” Link asked, looking at it. “The Ocarina of Time… Why does that sound familiar?” “Probably many reasons for you” Zelda said “but please, you have to find it. I have a feeling it is going to be really important very soon.” “Okay,” Link said “I guess I’ll send you a letter with updates” he said, setting the book down on the table. “Same here” Zelda said. Link stood up. “Bye” he said “Bye” Zelda said. Link walked out the door and let out a sigh of relief. Talking with a Princess, no, a Queen, was much harder than talking to Ilia. Link headed back to Ordon. Chapter 2 – “Getting ready” Once there, Link made sure no one was still around, especially not Ilia, and ran into his house. He grabbed a lantern and headed down the ladder to his basement. Link looked around at all the items from his previous adventure. Double Clawshots: definite yes. Bow and Arrows: No duh! Dominion Rod: Why not? Ball and Chain: another definite yes. Spinner: to fun to leave behind. Fishing Rod: considering it had helped him out so much before, yes. Sling shot: no. He had given it to Talo so he could get his bow and arrow back Empty bottles: yes Boomerang: sure, why not? Zora Armor: Well, it might just come in handy… Iron Boots: just in case… Bombs: yes, yes indeed Link was confused; it had seemed like so much more. Was he missing something? No, no he wasn’t. Link shrugged, climbed back out of his basement, put his lantern away, and then headed out of his house. Thankfully, his horse was still there. Link shuddered as he felt the chill of night fall upon him. He looked around in the slightly orange glow of the setting sun. Twilight was upon him. “The twilight there holds a serene beauty…” Link shook the thought away, tears in his eyes. He headed down the ladder and hopped on Epona, and rode off. Eventually he reached the path to the Zora’s domain, and got off Epona. He headed through the tunnel alone. It wasn’t that much of a tunnel, soon enough the large waterfall was in sight. Link smiled, went to the edge of the cliff, and started to dive. Wait, he thought. He put his Zora Armor on over his clothes and then dove. The cold water slapped his face, Link barely winced. He swam around a bit and then said hello to a nearby Zora. The Zora ignored him. “Fine,” Link said, swimming off. He got out of the water and took off his Zora Armor. He looked for the passageway to Snowpeak. It was frozen again. Link scowled, pulled out his ball and chain, and then swung it at the block of ice. The ice shattered. “Whoa!” a nearby Zora said “careful there” “Yeah yeah, whatever” Link said, putting the ball and chain away. “I mean it! Swinging around a thing like that can be dangerous!” “Doesn’t he know how dangerous that is!?! Swinging around something like that in such a small place?” “I know what I’m doing” Link said, biting back the memory. He headed up the tunnel to Snowpeak. |

Re: The Lost Ocarina
oops!!! i forgot something!!!
Note: this takes place shortly after Twilight Princess, so please don’t get confused by it. It is also based on the fact that most people who have played Twilight Princess hate Snow Peak Ruins. If you don’t then I am sorry, I guess this story isn’t for you. But that doesn’t mean you can’t read it!! Please do!!! By the way, this story sports whatever relationship Link and Midna had. |

Re: The Lost Ocarina
Urghh... There is far too much dialogue, and actual narration is scant to nonexistent. Seriously, it's lunacy. This is supposed to be a story, not a bloody telephone conversation.

Re: The Lost Ocarina
By putting up fanfiction on the internet for all to see, you are giving people your consent to criticize as much as they wish.

Re: The Lost Ocarina
Except when it's posted by me. People don't seem to want to criticize the stuff posted by me.

Re: The Lost Ocarina
^
Generally, when people ask for critique, they don't get any, for some odd reason. :/ You should listen to what Silver is saying, Achu. He might seem mean but comment like these helps you improve. If you stop writing, thats the opposite of what they intend to happen.
