Love and Duty in a Kanto Day [M]

Wanted to write some fanfiction, so thought I'd write a Pokemans fiction.

Love and Duty in A Kanto Day

[M] for Sexual References and Violence

MORNING

Joy rolled over and put her arm around her partner as the first sunlight of the morning streamed in through the window. Her gentle caress caused Jenny to stir slightly, a warm smile gracing her face. Joy placed a kiss on her cheek, the bright, pink mess of morning hair tumbling past her face tickled Jenny's nose, eliciting a small giggle from the veteran police officer. Jenny finally opened her eyes and rolled to face the nurse who had occupied her heart for so many years.
“Good morning,” smiled Joy.
“It'll still be a good morning in ten minutes,” replied Jenny as she closed her eyes again, “just let me sleep ten minutes more.”
“Unfortunately, the taxpayers want Vermilion's finest on-duty on-time,” said Joy before putting on a mock-authoritative tone, “And I need my woman to bring home the bacon!”
Jenny blurted out a laugh, “Your job pays more than mine with all those extra hours you do...what time will you be home tonight?”
Joy was silent for a moment, frowning, before answering, “Late...”
“Careful,” teased Jenny. “I might think you've got a pretty, young thing holding your attention at the Pokemon Centre.”
“I'm doing it for you!” snapped Joy before quickly apologising, “Sorry...I didn't mean to...I'm doing it for you, Jenny.”
Jenny looked up at the pink-haired beauty, the slowly rising sun bathing her face in wondrous shades of gold and purple. She brushed aside a stray wisp of hair that danced in front of Joy's face and kissed her.
“I know, Joy,” she said. “I know.”

Jenny slipped into her standard-issue mini-skirt before doing up the buttons on her blouse. She stood in front of a full-length mirror and carefully adjusted her hat before tugging at her blouse and skirt, pulling any remaining creases and wrinkles out. She patted her uniform, looking for something was missing.
“Over here,” said Joy.
Jenny turned toward the bed to see Joy fishing a pair of handcuffs out from beneath the sheets. The police officer blushed as Joy gently threw them to her. Jenny quickly affixed the handcuffs to her belt. Joy threw the blankets and sheets off her and got out of bed, the cool, morning air teased her naked skin. Jenny and Joy met in embrace.
“Have a good day,” said Joy.
“You too,” replied Jenny. “I'll have dinner ready for you when you get ho - ”
A coughing fit overtook Jenny, she spluttered and groaned, doubling over as the fit reached its peak before quickly subsiding. Joy looked into Jenny's eyes. She gave a reassuring, concerned smile.
“I can take on the worst criminals in Kanto,” said Jenny, her voice trembling, unsure, “I can defeat this.”
Joy hugged the green-haired Police Officer, a woman used to fighting anyone, accustomed to defeating anyone who dared get in her way, a woman now feeling trapped by an illness she could not simply arrest; a phantom taunting her from inside her own body.
“I'll work twenty-four hours, seven days a week if I have to,” said Joy. “I'll get enough money, I will, I promise, I won't let anything happen to you. I'll do anything.”
“I know,” said Jenny before breaking off from the embrace. “I'll see you tonight.”

Soon after Jenny had left for work, Joy went through her morning routine, preparing for work at the Pokemon Centre. She carefully arranged her hair to the bizarre standards of the Pokemon Centre employee handbook. As she adjusted her nurse's uniform in front of the mirror, a photo of her with Jenny caught her eye. It was taken in the early months of their relationship, Jenny's hair was still blue. There was a happiness in Jenny's eyes that had since faded. Jenny tried to hide it but Joy knew her better than that. Back then there weren't any responsibilities, it was all so care-free. Joy picked up the photo and smiled sadly.
“I'm sorry, Jenny,” she said. “But I'll do anything to help you.”

Jenny saluted as she entered The Sergeant's office. Her superior casually waved, not looking up from the file she was reading, indicating for her to sit down. Jenny took her seat. The Sergeant put the file down on the desk.
“Officer Jenny,” she said. “If you're not going to take sick leave, then you can take a case.”
“That's what I'm here for,” replied Jenny.
The Sergeant slid the file across the desk, “Pokemon are going missing. Stolen. There doesn't seem to be a connection between them. All different types from all sorts of Pokemon trainers and owners. Hell, even Magikarps are being stolen.”
“Jesse and James?” asked Jenny as she looked over the information.
“That kid they're following is over in the Cinnabar Islands, so it's a safe bet that's where they are,” said The Seargeant.
“Any leads?”
“Just that the perpetrator is in our city somewhere. You'll find all the victims' statements in that file.”
“Just one perpetrator?”
“Based on where and when the thefts took place, we believe it's only one person,” said The Sergeant. “However...we think the Pokemon are being sold on to a larger organisation...possibly Team Rocket, we're not sure. Like I said, Jesse and James aren't involved, so there hasn't been any disruption to whatever plan may be in place.”
“Team Rocket...”
“I don't need to tell you what might happen to those Pokemon...or what might happen to whoever is selling them on should they fall in to their bad books.”
Jenny's mind immediately went to dark places she had kept locked away. The raids on the warehouses. The experiments. The Pokemon whimpering in agony. The bodies. The bodies of people who defected, who were no longer necessary or who simply asked for more money. And the smile. The smile on Giovanni's face as he was acquitted on all counts.
Officer Jenny pushed back her seat and stood up, “You can count on me, ma'am. I'll put whoever's behind these thefts behind bars.”

Nurse Joy ruffled the hair of the young Pokemon trainer in front of her as he held his Charmander close.
“Thank you, Nurse Joy!” exclaimed the young man.
“Just be more careful with your Charmander, okay?” said Nurse Joy. “It might seem like a good idea to give him a bath in the washing machine, but fire types don't hold up well to something like that.”
“Yes, Nurse Joy,” said the young man as he began walking out of the building. “I'll use my Geodude next time!”
Joy called out, “No that's not...”
But it was too late, the automatic doors closed as her words trailed off. She filled in some leftover paperwork from the Charmander's visit before the phone started to ring.
“Vermilion City Pokemon Centre, Nurse Joy speaking,” she answered.
A distorted voice was on the other end, “It's me. The usual place. 1 pm.”
“U-understood,” said Nurse Joy.

The person on the other end hung up, leaving the incessant bleating of the busy signal. Joy put the receiver down and sighed heavily. She promised herself that this would be the last time.

Passion! Sorrow! Mystery! Maybe Action? I sure hope so. Made me laugh the whole way through, I certainly can’t wait to see the rest of this awesome biography of these two lovers.

Really nice work Kyle.

Re: Love and Duty in a Kanto Day [M]

Thank you very much for the comment, Alex. Here is the second part of three.

AFTERNOON

Officer Jenny tapped away at the computer in front of her, her fingers flying in a frenzied flurry, desperate to find a lead on the spate of Pokemon thefts. She performed database searches, cross-references, analysed security camera footage, searched online Pokemon forums, she did everything in the book but she was still no closer to finding a lead. Jenny sighed and leaned back in her chair, putting her hands behind her head. She stared past the ceiling fan above her trying to lose herself in deep thought, hoping for a revelation to bubble up from her intuitions. There was nothing. If Team Rocket were a part of this...no, she's brought down people in high places before. The Pewter City Gym Leader is behind bars for his countless sexual assaults thanks to her, Team Rocket was just another organisation with people as vulnerable to slipping up as anyone else.

Jenny took a sip of the coffee on her desk, a bitter jolt shot through her body. She looked over her desk with a renewed vigour but no idea what to do next. A photo of Joy on her desk caught her attention. She was a devoted nurse and a devoted lover, she always worked so hard to make Jenny happy. If she had to, Joy would walk to Johto and back just to see her smile.

The shrill ring of the phone on her desk shook Jenny out of her thoughts. Files and paper were strewn across the desk, the policewoman frantically pushing them out of the way looking for the phone. Finally, she uncovered it.
“Vermilion City Police Station, Officer Jenny speaking,” she answered distantly.
A disguised voice was on the other end, “If you hurry, you will find the Pokemon thief on the hill by the sea.”
The caller had Jenny's attention, “You have information on the Pokemon thief?”
It was too late, the caller had already hung up. Jenny immediately grabbed the essentials off her desk before heading toward the Police Station's garage.

The police car came to a gentle stop at the base of the hill that overlooked the sea. It was a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering majestic views of the ocean and allowing people to soak in the sea air. Jenny quickly looked down at her watch, 1:30 pm. It was usually populated with many people enjoying their lunch but it seemed everyone had returned back to work by this time. Everyone except the lone figure sitting on a bench at the very top of the gently sloping hill. Jenny began making her way up there, ignoring the designated path and instead trampling over the lush, green grass. If she wasn't on duty, she would have taken her boots off to delight in the grass tickling her toes.

She had many fond memories of this hill, memories of Joy bathed in the light of the midnight moon on that night all those years ago when they shared more than their hearts for the very first time.

Jenny refocused, she couldn't afford her mind to be elsewhere. She continued making her way up the hill, she tried to see who was sitting at the top of the hill but the bright glare of the early afternoon sun prevented seeing anything beyond her own eyelids. Jenny squinted, desperately trying to filter out the light, as she did so she could make out a woman's figure. The figure suddenly stood up, apparently having seen Jenny. The woman tried to run, but she appeared to have a limp. Jenny took chase. The woman ran as fast as she could, trying to ignore her injury. She disappeared from view as she stumbled down the other side of the hill. Jenny drew her sidearm, it paid to be prudent in times like this. Officer Jenny's legs complained mildly as she powered up the hill, her many hours in the gym meant she would catch up with the woman in a very short time. The policewoman reached the very top of the hill.

She took a moment to survey the other side before quickly locating the hobbling woman she was pursuing. The woman had left the relative ease of the grass for the difficult and tiring terrain of the sandy beach below. It was the sign of a desperate person, too panicked to think clearly, this must be the Pokemon thief. Jenny ran as fast she could down the other side, being careful not to overbalance and go crashing down the slope. She hit the bottom of the hill and sprinted on to the beach. The woman was some distance from her. Officer Jenny stood in place and took a wide stance as she held her gun up, the woman in her sights.

“Stop in the name of the law!” cried Jenny.

The woman continued to hobble away, her injury proving too much to attempt running in the sand any longer. She fell to her knees. Officer Jenny carefully moved toward the woman in front of her, pausing momentarily after every step, wary of any sudden movements. She held the gun with one hand as she used the other to retrieve the handcuffs from her belt. Jenny was close enough now to see the woman in front of her had delicately arranged, pink hair. Just like...Jenny stopped. She begged any deity listening to let it be someone else, for her to be mistaken. The woman looked back over her shoulder. Tears welled in her eyes.

It was Joy.

Re: Love and Duty in a Kanto Day [M]

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Here is the final part.

SUNSET

“You're the Pokemon thief?” said Jenny, her gun still trained on its target.
“I did it for you,” sniffed Joy.
“Did what? Why?” questions bombarded Jenny's mind with only a select few toppling out of her mouth.
“You needed the money,” Joy looked away from Jenny. “My job wasn't enough...I didn't want you to...I want...I did it for you.”
A tear rolled down Jenny's cheek, “Do you...did you know what happens to the Pokemon?”
“I tried not to think about it,” replied Joy.
“Joy,” the word squeaked out of Jenny's mouth. “You idiot.”
“I'm sorry,” a sob forced its way out, “I'm so sorry...I did it for you.”
Jenny closed her eyes, trying to force the tears away, “I'm sorry, too...I am placing you under arrest for the theft and illegal sale of 67 Pokemon. You have the right...You have the right to,” Jenny began crying, “you know the rest.”
“Wait, Jenny, no,” Joy looked back over her shoulder. “If you...don't...don't arrest me, I've got almost enough for your operation...if you arrest me, we can't keep the money....you'll die.”
“So what?” spat Jenny. “If I live because of this...because of this disgusting crime, then I'd rather die. I am a police officer, Joy. I uphold the law, I protect the innocent, I do everything I can to prevent despicable things from happening to good people and I put my life on the line to do that job.”
“And I love you for it,” Joy's voice was barely a whimper, “but...can't you be selfish...just once...just this once...do something for yourself...for your own life...save yourself for once.”
Jenny grimaced, “Joy...I love you...but...I took an oath...”
“It means more to you than me?” Joy wiped away a tear.
“No,” replied Jenny. “Nothing is more important to me than you.”
“...But?”
Jenny sighed, “But,” she took a breath, “it's more important to the people of this city. I swore to protect them, no exceptions. And to protect them, I have to arrest you.”
“I don't think you'll have to,” struggled Joy. “I...I got greedy.”
Jenny's eyes darted back and forth, searching for the meaning to those words, “What do you mean?”

Joy collapsed, her body crashed face-down on to the sand. Jenny looked on in horror as blood stained the beach. She threw her gun and handcuffs to the ground and rushed to her partner's side. Jenny picked Joy up off the sand and held her in her arms. Joy was still alive, barely, as Jenny pressed her palm against a large wound in the nurse's stomach. Nurse Joy forced her eyes to stay open even as her vision came in and out of focus. The gentle sea breeze caressed the couple as the sound of the rolling waves ebbed into the distance as if giving the lovers a moment of grace.

“I asked for more money,” said Joy, her words spluttering out of her mouth, blood gurgling forth. “I didn't want to...didn't want to do this anymore...it was just...just this last time...then your operation...I'm sorry...”
“Joy,” tears spilled down Jenny's cheeks.
“I couldn't face the thought of living the rest of my life without you,” Joy looked into Jenny's eyes.
Jenny wept as she placed a kiss on Joy's forehead, “You wouldn't have been able to share your life with me from prison.”

Joy's breath had become more of a wheeze and it was proving even more difficult for her to talk. She closed her eyes and focused all her effort on forcing a few more words out. She tried, but the words ran into the inside of her clenched lips. A second attempt yielded the same results. On her third attempt, however, she managed to push the words through.

“At least now...I get to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Joy closed her eyes for the last time. The sight of Joy's lifeless body smacked the tears from Jenny's eyes, replacing them with blank shock. Jenny held the woman who had known her better than anyone else in the world, the woman she had spent so many nights curled up on the couch with, the woman she had nursed everytime she felt sick and who had nursed her when she herself, the woman who had consoled her during the most difficult times of her life and who had celebrated with her during her greatest triumphs. The weight of her love pushed her heart down to her stomach, crushing the life out of the future she had planned for the both of them. All her certainties turned to doubt, all of her passion crumbled to dust and the world around her ceased to be. There was only Joy. There was only ever Joy.
Jenny silently picked up the gun she had dropped on the sand. She pressed it against her temple, the cold kiss of the metal shocking the world back into existence. She looked down at Joy.
“I can't live without you either,” she said.
Jenny looked at the now-congealing blood staining the nurse's uniform. Joy had been murdered. Slaughtered. Jenny tightened her grip on the gun. She closed her eyes tight.

A wave came crashing in.

Her finger tickled the trigger.

Another wave came rumbling in to shore.

BANG.

The gun tumbled out of Jenny's hand as her grip went limp. She did not fall to the ground. She had fired into the air.

“But I have a duty to uphold,” said Jenny. “I have to protect the people of this city, and to protect them, I have to find who did this to you.”

Jenny held her beloved as the sun started drooping towards the horizon, beginning its slow descent toward the evening. The police officer sat on the beach for hours as the sky's bright blue made way for the deep and enchanting hues of sunset. Jenny looked down at the pink-haired beauty, the slowly setting sun bathing her face in wondrous shades of gold and purple. She brushed aside a stray wisp of hair that danced in front of Joy's face as the sun set on another Kanto day.

THE END

Re: Love and Duty in a Kanto Day [M]

Okay, I won't lie. My first thought at "pokemon fanfic" was disinterest/amusement. Then when I saw it was a Joy/Jenny fic, I thought "Only Kyle could be this ridiculous". However...

Despite the ridiculous topic, your writing ability shows through. Once you got past the gooey love-scene at the beginning, you had me sucked in, wanting to know what happened next. An excellent story for Pokemon and non-Pokemon fans alike. Nice job.
