(ZGen/Fan) Link's Shadow: A Dark Uprising (t)

NOTE: Well, I had ideas based off of the previous events in Link's Shadow, and I feel it's time to put those ideas to use. This might be better than the first, or worse. I'm not sure.

It's going to sound a lot like he American Revolution, yet it's not, the ideas just make it out to be.

I'm also going to try and make the chapters longer if I can. As usual, feel free to comment or read, but either way, lets begin, kay?

A Dark Uprising

Chapter 1: Rebellious Payment

The sun was hardly up.

Shadows slowly began to move West, the sun coming up in the east, far over the horizon. No one in Hyrule was awake yet.

Except for two knights.



Horse's hoofs hit the ground, dirt and sand flew. Two knights rode neck to neck around a famous horse track in the town of Lon Lon.

One of these knights, a lieutenant, looked over to the other," Sorry, Will, but I'm afriad I'm winning!"

The man snapped at his reins, his horse galloped faster. The finish line was just there...

It was another tie! The two raced nearly every day, and yet it was nothing but one large tie.

Link, the one who was Will's friend, rode his horse into the stables, and into a stall. He leapt off, walking out the door. Will, his friend, caught up.

"How does that keep happening?"he exclaimed.

"I dunno, why ask me? My only intent is to race and win."

"Same." replied the other lieutenant.

The two began to walk down the track, talking about the current issues of the modern times. Link stopped a moment, remembering how five years ago he had killed his shadow and darkness.

"Hey,"he remembered," you hear about them trying to re-build the castle?"

"I think so, why?" questioned Will.

"Well, they've raised the taxes on everything..."

"So?"

"So? What do you mean? Kakirko and Ordon are in poverty! Rip-tide has lost a bit too much. People are protesting. Even Ganondorf gave a speech against the rising taxes, nearly half of Hyrule is against the re-building of the castle. They lost funds to build a village a few miles south of here, and the people living there had to leave because they couldn't afford anything. They tried leading a protest in the Castle Town but were forced back into their homes. Whatever this is, it's serious!"

"Well... I dunno, these things usually work themselves out..."

"I sure hope so, because Lon Lon hasn't thrived too much. People are living in the second floor of the church, for Din's sake! A few here couldn't keep their hous-"

"Yeah, yeah, I know..." replied Will, a tad annoyed.

"I dunno, but I sure hope it stops, so people can get back to their normal lives..."

"Link!" said a voice. Both men turned to see one of the villagers running to them.

A woman ran to them.

"Link, something great just happened!"

"What?"

"Come!" the girl, Malon told him. He and Will followed. At the gates of the town, there sat several knights and Princess Zelda.

"Well, Link... 3...4 years has it been?"

"five." Link corrected.

"Yeah, well, that's not why I came."

"Yeah?" he asked, raising a brow.

"I need you to set out to Ordon, and tell them to send a Burgess to Castle Town. There are some important issues to discuss."

"Alright.." replied Link.

Zelda and her knights rode off again.

"Well,"began Will," lucky! You get to go on another royal mission!"

Will wished he went on those missions, but Link was fast and could deliver the message strait and clear.

"Yeah. Yeah that's true." replied Link flatly.

Link took Epona from her stall, and rode away.

Upon riding to the Faron Woods, he saw a rock go passed him. He looked to hear screams. Angry citizens ran out shouting at Link. Link's horse reared back in fright.

"...unfair taxing..."

"...I hate you..."

"...leave us be..."

"...we're poor and you don't care..."

"...I hope you die a miserable death you..."

"...I LOST MY HOUSE..."

"...Unfair taxing..."

Link looked around. There was no way out. The protestors had surrounded him, screaming and yelling.

A rock pelted him. Then another one. And another one. The people were throwing random things like rocks at him. His horse reared back. He fell hopelessly to the ground.

More rocks pelted him. The villagers became dangerously close, still shouting.

He had to get them away, but he was surrounded. He had one last option. He drew his bow, placing an arrow in, he let it fly into the crowd. A man fell dead as a few people screamed. After about ten had ran, the others followed. Link was bleeding, along with his horse.

He rode to Ordon, delivering the news, and riding back to Lon Lon. Will was horrified.

"Well?" he asked.

"Riot..." Link replied.

"Seriously? What'd they do?" he questioned curiously.

"Threw rocks, knocked me off my horse..."

"WHOA! How'd they get away!?"

Link suddenly felt ashamed. He hesitated a moment before telling the truth.

"I...I...I fired into the crowd..."

Will looked shocked a moment.

"L...Link! But why? That was horribly illegal!"

"I had no choice! They were closing in on me, I was knocked off my horse. It was the only way to make them move!"

Will stood bewildered. His friend, savior of Hyrule, had killed an innocent protestor? The thought made a chill rush down his spine.

"Well... only because you are my friend, I won't turn you in..."

Link nodded slowly, taking Epona to her stall and feeding her, he left back to his house. Inside, he smelled something cooking. Malon, over a pot and fire, was cooking soup.

"Link!" she said, getting up.

"Yeah?"

"Where have you been, what happened, you're bloody!"

"Um... riot?"

"How'd they get away."

"I shot at them."

"WHAT!? HOW MANY TIMES? HOW MANY D-"

"MALON!" Link protested," They knocked me off my horse and were screaming at me and throwing rocks. I fired once, and killed one, okay?"

There was a long silence that night. Link ate his soup and went to bed after a bath to clean his wounds.

The situation was serious. If anyone besides his wife, Malon, and his friend, Will knew about what he did... he would probably be executed.

It was a dangerous world out there, and people were angry.

Link suddenly thought about what Dark Link would have sa...

Link walked over to a familiar stone. He opened a door and came to a beautiful land. Where children played and adults talked. Then he heard a voice.

"Wow, low..." He yelled, the people became wolf poeple. They began to close in on him, snarling and growling. One pounced-

"AH!" Link shouted sitting up. He was sweating all over. He knew it had been a nightmare. How he hated those things!

Malon did not hear, so he went down stairs, taking a seat. The same phrase echoed in his head as he sat by a small fire.

"Wow, low..."

He still remembered that time he had chased his shadow up death mountain to a fort and back, how his secret was revealed.

Everyone had forgiven him, as he was not himself when he murdered the kids. But, would they forgive him now? Would they see him as they one who had crushed and saved Hyrule? Or as a pure murderer by heart, killing the protestors.

They couldn't... it wasn't peacful... You know you were trapped he thought to himself. He shook his head.

What a week.

What a week, indeed...

Chapter 2: Burning Boxes

A silent night.

Not one sound. Everything was quiet.

Except one group in the remains of the village that lost it's funding due to taxes. A large fire brewed. Boxes burned within it.

"YEAH! HOW ABOUT THAT?! HUH ZELDA! YOU WANT A CASTLE!?" A man screamed as he chunked a whole box of milk in the fire.

A few people laughed.

Among this crowd, was general of the Hylian army, Ganondorf. He smiled devilishly," Keep it burning, boys! They'll know what we think of their dirty taxes!"

Men cheered as they continued to throw boxes of milk from Lon Lon. Dear in the North of Hyrule. Rum from a small island a mile off-shore. Dear in all taverns. Tobacco, dear for all respectful countrymen. They burned it all, sugar, flour, fine fabrics, they did not care!

Ganon took a sip of the milk," Tastes bad, already!" he said with a laugh, throwing the bottle in, watching it explode.

Men danced about, cheering and screaming, throwing flyers in that announced the taxes. They threw news papers in that mentioned the castle being built and money needed. They were out-raged.



"Whoa, you won't believe what some scouts found, Malon!" exclaimed Link as he rushed into their house." They found a huge burnt area, full of burnt boxes of different taxed items! And burnt news letters and flyers! And busted bottles of-"

"Wait, Wait, and slow down, what happened?" Questioned his wife calmly.

"People are burning taxed items that are rare!"

"Well, these things work themselves out, Link, calm down!"

"I don't like the way this is coming, Mal, whether we like it or not, they've been having protests in Rip-tide. They-"

"Can we talk differently for once? Link, there is NOT going to be a rebellion, you need to get it in your head! A few protests, failed riots, and burning of some taxed items. Soon, the castle will be built up so they no longer have the need to tax." She explained.

Link finally accepted no one would listen, and went back outside.

A few days later, horns sounded, as horses rode up. Once again, Queen Zelda had arrived.

Link ran over quickly.

"Link, we need you to go on another very important mission... If you are willing and brave."

"Anything." Link offered.

"Well, we need someone to patrol Rip-tide, and make sure there's no out-breaks." She explained, handing him a letter,” Give that to the mayor. That gives my word you have the right to free meals and sleeping."

Link nodded," So, for how long am I patrolling?"

"Until things calm down..." she replied simply.

"Yeah, I'm sure I can do this. Is there anything else I should know?"

"If you see a dummy of yourself burning, being hung, beat, well... leave immediately to castle town and inform us on all that you've seen."

"Alright... I can do this. Not the most dangerous mission I've been on, for sure."

"Lets hope so Link. Lets hope so."

With that, she turned and left. Well, as usual, Link was back on duty.

Link said good-bye to Malon and Will. He began to ride out of Lon Lon, but stopped a moment to read to letter:

Dear Mayor of Rip-tide,

To whom it may concern,

As an order from the queen of Hyrule herself, we are sending a knight to patrol your village, for reasons of treason. This letter gives him the right to free meals and quartering.

Do not disobey the law, or else we shall be forced to use deadly force. He shall patrol until you've proven peaceful. If you continue to defy his orders, you or whoever did it, shall be arrested on the spot.

P.S. Patrol has the right to bring back-up.

Link smiled at the last sentence, turning Epona around, he rode back into Lon Lon, seeking out Will.

"Will, get your horse, we're going to Rip-tide."

"Huh, what do you mean?" Will questioned.

"I have the right to bring back-up, now come on!"

Link waited until Will had geared himself, and they both rode out to the east. They passed Lake Hylia and a few days later, arrived in Rip-tide.

It seemed peaceful, or a bit of it. But it was in the air, people glared at you when you weren't looking. You were gossiped about. People stayed as far away from you as they could.



"Mayor..."

"Y...yes sir?"

"You know the plan, and don't think you don't. Your time is coming. You must... 'hang the dummy'..."

"Yes sir..." the mayor replied to the dark figure in front of him.

"Act rebellious, and make sure... you know..."

The mayor nodded quickly. The figure nodded before leaving.



"Well," began Link after their second day of patrol had begun." seems like this won't be a problem, no one is bothering us, and they're in hiding. I think at this rate, we may leave in just two days!"

"I surely hope so..." replied will alongside of Link as they rode down the main street where most people were.

Link noticed a little girl approaching him, so he stopped his horse.

"Mister...? Can I ask a question?"

"Yes, what is it, hun?"

"Are you one of the dirty scum bags that have been ta-"

Link was taken aback as she said this, and was more surprised when a mother ran up and slapped her.

"Oh... Oh I'm terribly sorry for that, sir!" she lied.

"It's okay ma'am. She probably doesn't know any better."

"Yes sir, it'll never happen again..."

"Jerk..." Link spoke under his breath as they continued to patrol main-street.

They passed a few kids who glared strait at them. They held up a cheap sign that read:

LEAVE!

They did their best to ignore it. There was no purpose in fretting over that, just some kids that probably didn't know what even was going on in the real world and felt they should say something.

"Hm, I don't like this place, Link. They're all evil... just... si-"

"Don't bother, Will, idiots exist. All I can say." Link replied. He seemed the calm one now. Hopefully, Will understood why he panicked.

The next day, they found a few people in the street blocking their way. The crowd was growing, and they weren't facing them.

"Hm, let’s check it out..." offered Will. Link nodded in reply, and rode slowly up to where the crowd was.

He peered over many heads and found in the center of the crowd, the mayor was beating a dummy... in a green tunic, and a pointed hat!

Link gasped as he spoke to Will," I'm riding to castle-town; you keep things in order here! I'll warn them to bring more troops."

"It's okay Link. I'll do it."

Link nodded to his friend, before turning and snapping his reins North West. He heard behind himself Will, shouting at the crowd.



"What happened, Link? You look horrified!" Zelda exclaimed as Link busted into a small church which had been the gathering place of politics.

"I... dummy... The mayor of Rip-tide was beating a dummy of me. I left my friend, Will, there, to watch over things until I came back. They were beating a dummy of m-"

"Calm down Link! I'll send men in there and have the mayor arrested... Is there anything else you need to tell me?"

"well-" Link was cut off by another voice.

"Well, I do..." said the familiar voice," I can... offer to be mayor of Rip-tide... and I'll keep it in order... Oh yes... this rebellion will... stop alright!"

Well, I'm back. It's late, but lets see if I can pull up a chapter...

Yeah, antoher chapter about riots. Sorry, my ideas are low. I've been busy lately. But I'm hoping 4 will be the start of fresh ideas.

Chapter 3: Leave them alone!

Well, Hyrule wasn't the best ever.

Rip-tide was under Ganon's control. Ordon was barely keeping its small population alive. Hyrule castle town had a few more tramps, and Kakiriko was also struggling.

Link was sent back on duty in Lon Lon, where he helped the best he could. The town got most of it's money off of selling milk. 75% actually.

So, what if there was no castle to sell to? They could still sell to Castle town, but since last war, nearly four thousand people died. That's a lot for the small land of Hyrule. So, they needed less milk to sell.

Out of that 75%, they were probably making it 25%. More people were coming to live in the church.

More riots were being held, and stopped. No one was happy on either side.



It was the day that Link feared. But it came. A royal messanger rode into town, telling him he was back to Rip-tide, to help maintain peace.

He dreaded the moment he'd arive. Ever since Ganon was in control, curfew was two hours earlier, and that means more people outside after curfew. More arrests.
