Chapter 1: Zelda’s Escape
Link suddenly awoke with a start.
“What? Huh? Oh, it was just a dream.” he panted. He looked out the window and saw that a bit of light was slowly creeping in.
“What a strange nightmare” he thought as he checked again to make sure he was still in his Grandfather’s house. After a few minutes, he decided to forget about it and go back to sleep. So he flopped back down and went back to sleep, having no idea that someone was watching him the whole time.
Princess Zelda crouched next to the bush and hoped that the guard would not see her. She peeked through the bushes to make sure the guard had gone, and then seeing that he had gone Zelda slowly crept out from the bush. Keeping to the shadows cast by the large stone walls of Hyrule Castle, she ran past a few guards who were talking, what seemed to be about the “cool look and shape” of the Four sword. She grinned as she continued towards the castle gate still out of sight.
“That’s all they ever go on about now,” she thought. “I wonder if they ever actually talk about its powers? That’s the main reason Link got it forged.” Zelda just smiled and shook her head. Zelda was almost at the gate but then her Dad, the king of Hyrule, came storming into the courtyard.
“Zelda where are you?” His booming voice rang through the courtyard and all the guards, Zelda and anyone else who happened to be in the courtyard flinched.
“Have any of you seen her anywhere?” the king asked approaching some guards. “No your majesty!” they all replied at once. Zelda quickly ducked behind a nearby bush. “Please Zelda; I know you don’t like these types of days… But this one is very important!” he said, lowering his tone a bit.
“Oh no, this is going to be the hardest escape I’ve ever done.” Zelda thought “If I’m going to get out of here, I’ll have to hope that the plan worked. If not…” But before she could finish, a maiden came running out of the entrance to the main keep of the castle.
“Your majesty! I think we’ve found her!” she exclaimed. All eyes in the courtyard turned to the maiden. Zelda smiled. Her plan was working.
“Yes! All the maidens have kept their promise and have stuck to our plan,” she thought. “Now I can make my escape.” Zelda crept away from her hiding spot and since everyone was looking at the maiden, could easily slip through the castle gate into the town of Hyrule. As soon as she got into the town she quickly slipped into the big, bustling crowd of people and made her way through the town. She turned into one of the empty streets where there were not many people. “I better stay in the areas where there are not many people. You don’t see any well dressed eleven year old girls in the old town of Hyrule!” she thought aloud.
But when she looked around the next corner, there were dozens of people at a fruit stall. There was a large sign with “everything half-price” written on it. “Oh no! Well I can’t take this path,” she said to herself “I’ll have to cut through Minish Woods.” So Zelda ran straight, instead of left, into the outskirts of Hyrule and started heading into Minish Woods.
She always had to tread carefully in Minish Woods, so she didn’t step on a Minish, or a Picori, as most people call them. The only people that actually call them by their real name is Zelda, and her best friend Link. Link was the only one who had actually shrunk down to the same size as a Minish.
Zelda walked through Minish Woods for about a minute when she heard a little yelp.
“Oh I’m so sorry! I wasn’t looking where I was going.” Zelda said apologetically as she kneeled down to speak with the Minish she almost stepped on.
“It’s alright Zelda, I’m hardly awake myself today,” the tiny Minish replied. “Isn’t Link with you today?”
“No, though I am going to see him. I have to go through Minish Woods because the town is busy today.”
“Oh I see. Well, have a nice day!”
“You too!” Zelda replied as she watched the little Minish run off.
Zelda kept on making her way through the woods. She remembered how Link had given her a spare jabber nut, which he’d found in his pocket. The jabber nut enabled her to understand the Minish language. “Huh?!” Zelda gasped as a green, slimy Chuchu hopped out from behind a tree.
