Post (ZGen/Fan) Link's Shadow (t)

Well, I decided to make a zelda fiction out of a nightmare I had recently, so I guess I'll start us off.

NOTE: The story begins with Link chasing Dark Link, like he's already in mid-adventure, just in-case the beginning seems odd to you. And yes, please critique, I understand this chapter was a mess, but I don't wanna make the same mistakes again, kay?

Chapter 1: The Land of Dark
Link Grinned running through the woods, his sword in hand, he chopped any plant or thorn in his way. He heard footsteps infront of him, so he knew he was gaining on Dark Link.

After years of chasing the shadow, he was soon to beat him. Link jumped out into a clearing, a frown on his face. "No! I was so close! He got away... again." he complained. All that time, and he still seemed to get away! He had to find his secret. Slowly bowing his head, Link sheathed his sword, and continued to walk, kicking stones. He was searching for the Land Dark Link called his home. Where he could catch him.

As Link walked, he heard moaning. The sun was falling, and something was up. Wind began blowing, he went a bit faster. Beyond a hill, was a large boulder. He ran to it. He reached to touch it, but he regreted. It was hot! It burnt his finger, which he quickly pulled back. Then thunder fell from the cloudless sky. It hit the boulder. A door appeared before Link. He hesitated a moment, but drew his sword and went in.

He went down a small stair-case to another door, which he opened. It was sunset. Strange red plants were everywhere on a field with yellow grass. It was warm and comforting. He walked cautiously amoung the plants. Suddenly two women jumped out in his way, without saying a word, they turned around, and ran into the plants. Link followed quickly.

Sprinting hard, he never lost sight of them. Only for a second. He continued to run, dispite his exaustion. He pushed the plants aside, cutting a few, but he wasn't loosing them, they obviously knew where Dark Link was. They lead him to a tower like the one he had just left, and lead him up stairs into a room. The doors locked and The woman disappeared. Link heard or felt nothing different, until he felt the Triforce of Courage blind. Then he heard strange sounds. LIke no music in Hyrule. They cut in his mind, he yelled, falling over.

He shook his head, he became scared, his head felt like it could explode. He yelled out again," HELP! HELP! Please make it stop! HELP!" yet the noise continued. He banged his fist on the ground. Then a figure walked into the room. It looked like one of the women, but when she turned around, her face was a monsters! A loud bang in Link's head went of as he yelled again.

He slowly got up, then the woman ran at him, slime coming from her mouth, and sharp teeth were coming right at him. They looked sharp enough to kill! He lept out of the way as she crashed into the wall. THe sound stopped for a moment as Link ran up to her, delivering a stab. A terrifying yell went off, and she disappeared. He found himself infront of the tower. Or... where the tower was." He slowly crept in among the plants. He'd found the shadow land alright, but he had to find Dark Link, it was his whole quest!"

Looking around, he was cautious if another woman should come up, though the monsters were helpful in a way, they helped him find the towers which apparently was going to lead to his Shadow. Coming back on the hill he was first on, he found many strange woman and men roaming around, talking, younger girls and boys played.

What was going on!?

Chapter two: The Mask Salesman
Link ran in the red plants for cover, but the kids ran to him, hissing and screaming the word play. Link sprinted, but the kids got on all fours, and darted after him. One pounced upon him, link yelled. It covered him in glowing slime, which whisked him away to the feet of Dark Link.

"Lord, you. I told you to quit! Give up! Leave me alone, okay? I need a servant in here!" A timid man walked up," Y... y... yes s... sir?" He asked sheepishly. “Make this idiot leave, change the rock so they don't find our realm, oh and..." Link heard no more. He heard faint whispers, the wind picked up, the whole room began to spin fast and faster. He heard a bang.

He was out cold.

He awoke to find a face over him, the man had nice red hair and a good purple suit," Oh, you're awake? You obviously went to the Nightmare Realm." "What? Who are you? What's the nightmare realm? Are you okay?" Link questioned. "Oh I'm fine, I just need to know if you met the king of the evil re-" "NO! What are you, crazy!? There is no- Wait, you..." "Yes, I've been there..." He showed Link a bit mark on his neck. He handed Link a mirror, and to Link's horror, he found marks on him!

"Well, you're right... when did yo-" "I had a nightmare, awoke with the mark, ever since I wondered what happened, I tried getting the King to listen, but he said I didn't have enough proof, but two people is good enough, right?" Link slowly nodded," Sure..." "So, will you come with me to the castle?" Link slowly nodded, getting up with the man's help, they headed out over the large field.

They traveled many days, rain or shine, hot or cold, they walked. They had to get there fast; they couldn't wait to be attacked by muggers or monsters. And finally, reaching where the castle was, they found a crumbled wall, and half-burnt down village, and a destroyed castle. “NO! NO! NO!!!" the salesman shouted. "WH... what happened, and by the way, I never asked your name." Said Link," Happy Masks Salesman, travel Hyrule selling masks. But my shop! The castle! The people! NO!" Link offered to help look for survivors, and so the two looked all day long through the mess, right as they were leaving, they heard a voice," Wait!"

They turned to find a woman in a torn dress; she had blond hair covered in dirt. Her breath smelled. She wore a chipped tiara. “I... I am Princess Zelda, of former Hyrule..." “Princess! What happened!?" The mask man exclaimed loudly. "I... I don't know, a cloaked figure walked in, killed a few guards, and made a strange noise. Men ran out, but they were killed." "By what?" "I... I don't know, suddenly they just fell of they feet and were torn apart. Strange black spots zipped across the ground, and before I knew it, my father told me to run, and everything caught a-fire suddenly, the walls crumbling, and the castle blowing up. I have been hiding ever since..."

"Oh, sorry to hear..." said Link softly, it must have been his fault, not killing Dark Link when he had the chance. " Now what?" Questioned the salesman," We could help her find the killers..." Offered Link. Zelda looked bright," Really!? Are you serious ? Thank you! Well, I can come with you a little ways to Death Mountain, where we can warn the Gorons, but I can't climb a mountain, but if you have an ocarina, I can teach us a song to keep us in touch." Things were happening a little fast for Link, but he knew they had to act fast.

He nodded," Of course, lemme see here..." He dug in his pocket, but pulled out a broken Ocarina," NO! Oh... the kid crushed it..." Zelda reached around, taking out a cheap, spare ocarina, handing it to Link. And the three went off. Along the way, Zelda tried getting Link to memorize the song. By the time he had gotten it about a week later, they were starting up in Kakariko village, which was also in ruin. It was a fire, which meant they weren't too late.

“No, they got here!” exclaimed Zelda," What're we going to do?!" Link felt the Triforce glow on his hand, he felt the warmth of courage fall through his body, and “I’ll climb the mountain and warn the Gorons..." The mask man shook his head," It's too dangerous!!!" "No, I'll go..." And without another word, Link left the two, starting up the mountain.

It would take him nearly a day to reach the top

(Well, I got chapter two in I guess, well, three is coming tomorrow then. I’m feeling too tired, stayed up late)

This story is really interesting to me now, it makes me wonder what kind of dreams you have haha...

Also, what seemed kinda weird to me was the red plants and yellow grass, I had a dream that had aqua colored grass n' plants and the sky was a light maroon color, strange coinsidence.

CHAPTER 3: The Gorons Test
Link climbed, it was a little cold, but no snow fell. He held a small cloak around him tightly, walking up the cheap path.

Eventually, he found a massive metal fort. It was in his way, blocking the rest of the path. Sleet slowly began to fall, and a chill wind began blowing. Link slowly drew his weapon. He crept slowly to the fort, knowing not what would happen.

He found netting on the front, and began to climb. His fingers felt numb from the cold, and they hurt when banged against the metal wall. He nearly fell, but gained his balance, continuing to climb. He reached the top, pulling himself onto the wall. He walked passed several catapults before a large Goron jumped up," Halt, human! “He shouted loudly. He knocked Link over.

“Ugh... “Link groaned. The Goron picked him up," I'm showing you to my leader, he'll know what to do.” He hit Link in the head when he tried yelling, and quickly brought him up the mountain.

Link awoke in a large room, it was warmer in here. He slowly got up on his weak legs. He was chained down. A large Goron stood before him, circled by other Gorons." Well, well... A human, your type is rare around here! ““Listen,” began Link," I have come to warn you o-" He was hit in the head. He felt the hard cold ground, he felt dizzy." Silence human! We'll un-chain you, but you better scram, weakling!" Link felt the floor going down, and he awoke on the side of the mountain, very cold.

He slowly got to his feet, wandering around. Suddenly a young Goron rolled out, Link drew his sword, but the Goron smiled," Oh... so you're the one that got kicked out of the mountain, not like the last human that came here..." “Huh? What happened? I thought the Gorons and hylians were-" " Well, we got a new elder, and he told us that humans are weak and evil, and the only way one can come in is if they beat a test..."

“I came to warn you all of danger, but I guess I'll be on my way..." “No no no, stay, I can show you a secret to beat the test." Link nodded as the kid lead him away. He went through a long tunnel, and at the end was a large chest. He opened it, revealing a nicely folded, red tunic, with strange black markings on it." Worn by an ancient human hero to become like a Goron, Wear it." The kid commanded. Link nodded, changing into the tunic, putting his other clothes in his satchel.

He felt warm, and tall. He walked out," Thank You for all you have done! I'll warn them!" and with that, Link made his way out of the tunnel, and back on the mountain trail.

He climbed the mountain, and got to the top of a large tower, and inside, was the elder," Ugh, you again human!? Do you really wanna take the test!?" “Yes..." said Link coolly.

The Goron lead him to an arena, the two stepped on. He explained the first person to fall looses. The man ran at Link, attempting to grab him. Link ducked quickly, wrapping his arms around the Goron, he began to push, the Goron struggled, but Link pushed.

The Goron knocked him down, and tried kicking him. Link felt the hard rock foot nail him. The Goron elder lifted him off the ground, and began walking. He tried throwing, but Link leapt up, using the goron's arms to support him, he kicked the Goron hard in the face. The Goron fell.

Link lifted him off, pushing hard; he threw him over the ring. Everyone went silent. The elder started laughing, "You beat me once, but now you must finish the final test..." He led Link to a tunnel, two guards moving, Link walked in a large room. The door behind him was locked.

A large beast crawled out of the lava. It looked like a slug with hands; it blew a wave of fire at Link, which knocked him over quick. Link leapt to his feet, running at the thing, swing his sword. No effect. Another burning wave went out, sending Link flying.

He stood back up, climbing up a partly broken ladder, he found a platform. The best blew a wave of fire, which missed, and he began to cool off, revealing a gem on it's back. It was crawling to the lava. Link knew what to do. He leapt off of the platform, landing on the monster, shoving his sword strait through the gem, it shattered. The slug bellowed, sending Link flying. The slug crawled around.

Link finally saw it stop, fall over, and melt into a pool of jelly. A few cheers were heard, and the door behind Link was opened, he walked out proudly, hardly bleeding anywhere. The Goron elder shook his head," You, human, are strong. I miss-took you for a weakling. What is it you wanted to tell us?" “Someone is attacking, they're coming here! You must be ready..." The Gorons thanked him, and Link started down the mountain. A few minutes away from the bottom, he played the song on his ocarina. He opened his eyes. He was in an empty white, foggy, space.

Zelda stood before him," Well? Did it work? It took you awhile..." “Yes, they have been warned." “We should warn the Zoras next." offered Zelda. Link nodded, closing his eyes, he opened them, still holding the Ocarina, and he felt like he had just waked up from sleep.

He stretched silently, and continued down.

I am in the mood for writing, in fact, I'll put up THREE chapters in one day. I've done two, just one more!

CHAPTER 4: The wild-goose chase

Link and Zelda along with the maskman went off. Night was approaching, and it would take them at least a week to reach the Zora's Domain far away in the east.

They were walking through a patch of woods, when an arrow whizzed passed Link's head. He quickly drew his sword. Another arrow just missed his foot." RUN! “He shouted loudly. The three took off. Link running ahead, he continued to dodge arrows.

He continued to run, for what felt like hours, though really just a few minutes, before he exited the path of trees. His partners later caught up. They had wandered to an old stone temple.

The three cautiously walked in. Link accidentally knocking over a pot, leapt back as blue smoke lifted through the air. Bats with sharp wings fell down at them, all three dodged. They ran through the large hall, running from bats, when they entered a small room. There was a door, and then, a small twister (yes, like two foot big) zipped out. Wind picked up, it grew bigger and bigger, before a large Dog, human like warrior with a long neck leapt out. His skin was pale with black spots covering it.

It ran at Zelda, knocking her out cold. The mask man pulled out a rather old mask of a deku scrub, putting it on, he transformed into a scrub. He began popping seeds at the creature, who was temporarily stunned. Link leapt up, slicing the creature, and then delivering a final stab.

They quickly left the temple, Zelda waking up later. Now, with that over, they continued to walk. Eventually, another arrow whizzed by.

Link drew his sword again," Robbers! Ho! Thieves! Help! Robbers! Ho!" before they could run, another arrow shot by and three men on horse back rode up. Each one of them had swords. Later, a few archers caught up with them.

"Halt!" said a man on horse back, who was the leader. His shield was painted red, and his armor was red. He had a black shirt underneath his chest plate, and had black pants, and black boots. His horse was white with black spots though.

"What do you want?" Zelda asked, drawing a dagger.

"Hand over your money, and supplies, please." said another knight.

"Why," began Link," knights protect the poor, defend the castle, go to war, not steal! You are a disgrace!"

"No, no I'm not, the castle is gone, and Kakiriko was raided. We have every-right to steal from people to stay alive, now." Said the leader.

"Yeah!" the third knight added.

Link glared at them;" Fine..."he tossed two blue rupees and a green rupee at him,” All I've got..."

"You're merchant friend for certain has more?” Link saw him ride over the salesman, and he knew his chance was right; he had to go find help. He quickly started to run across the field, as fast as he could.

A few shouts were heard, and an arrow flew passed Link's right arm. Link ran quicker, running to a patch of five trees, which blocked a few arrows. He continued to run, all until the shouting stopped.

A day later, Link wandered into a ranch. Many barracks filled the outside of the ranch itself, and soldiers cared for their horses and knights walked around and talked. Horses and cows grazed in the fields.

Link looked all around frantically, before entering a large house. He walked upstairs into an office where a farmer and a few generals were taking.

“What is it boy? We have no time for games!" The general said.

“But I and my friends were attacked by robbers! They took them into the woods!"

“The Lost Woods?” questioned the farmer.

“No, just a small patch of trees in the middle of Hyrule field, a few miles west of here. "

“Well," began one of the generals," We shall load up some knights, and get your friends back, if you wait here."

Link nodded," Please..."

The general left, and Link was given a tent to sleep in. For three days, he stayed at the ranch, which was called 'Lon Lon Ranch'. He met a girl his age, Malon, who started to teach him how to ride a horse, Epona.

Suddenly a horn sounded off. Knights rode up. And followed by two people. The maskman and Zelda.

While Zelda continued to be adored by all the knights and guarded, and the maskman tried selling his masks, Link still tried riding Epona. Malon had taught him a song the horse adored and came to.

When it came time to leave, Link said good-bye to Malon, and he rode off. Zelda and the Maskman would stay behind.

And not too much later, in less than a day, Link arrived at Lake Hylia. He rode into the area, the large lake stretching across the land. Guards walked about, and barracks were set up everywhere, along with a few stables. A few fishing boats were coming in from a day of good fishing. Link saddled Epona at a public stable. He was told to go no further.

He'd have to sneak.

CHAPTER 5: Freeing Light
Link traveled into a cave, going through the sewers, stepping over a few rats and dead bodies.

Link held his sword close, walking into a large circular room. Large stone steps went up to the top. Link began to crawl. Then he saw the same dog men with long necks marching. They wore armor and a few flags and drums. Some carried pikes, others carried swords and axes, and some escorted a catapult. So, basically, on top, there was the hylian base, and right underneath them, an evil base.

Link climbed the large steps, making sure not to be spotted, hiding behind a barrel every time he felt in danger. Walking up to a guard, he slit the man's throat. He took his bow and quiver.

He continued his ascent up. Finally reaching a top room, he walked out a door. He was in the sacred spring. Walking to the other side, he left.

He got into a canoe, paddling up the river. It was hard work, he rowed fighting the currents until dawn. He finally reached a small dock. Walking through a door, he was in the Upper Zora River. He continued down a trail, into the Zora's Domain.

It was frozen.

Link went up the ledge, reaching the throne room, he found Dark Link sitting there," Ah, well, you're doing better..."

"You better bet it!" Link retorted. He drew his sword, running at Dark Link.

Dark link leapt up out of the chair. Link's sword banged against the throne. Dark Link knocked him down," I hope you like my curse... See if you can Free the light!"

Link groaned as Dark Link walked away. He found a small door, which he entered. He found a Zora woman trapped in a cage. Many of the Dog/human soldiers surrounded the cage.

"Charge!" one shouted. Link leapt to avoid them. Slicing one in the back. Another tried stabbing him with a pike. Link rolled to avoid, twirling into the air, he sliced the troop's head off. He cut another in the process. Two ran at him. He ducked as they stabbed each other.

Link grinned, running at another, slicing on of his legs of, he delivered the final blow. The remaining four troops backed away.

"Lets retreat, lets make Lord Link send in the beast..."

"What are you sayi-" Link was cut short when the men disappeared. The ground began shaking. A large rotting whale pulled out, a roar went out. Link ran to avoid being sucked in the thing's mouth.

After it was out of energy trying to suck him in, Link ran in him. It smelled HORRIBLE! The smell of rotting flesh filled his nostrils as he hacked his way through. Finally reaching the end, he found another gem, like on the slug. But 5 more troops leapt out. They ran at Link.

"Not you guys!" Link shouted. He continued to dodge other attacks. Before one could stop him, he broke the gem.

And with that, he ran off, the troops attempting to follow him. Link felt the whale collapsing, and he felt water surround him. It was cold. He felt the whole whale collapse. A piece of bone hit him in the back of the head.

He awoke with the Zora queen standing over him.

"Thank you, you saved my Kingdom."

Link felt as if he was in water. He got up soaking wet. He felt the current of the river going south. To thank him, the Zora's giving him the Zora garments, now link could breathe and swim under water. So Link swam away. Under water, he found more troops swimming around. They had pikes. When they saw him, they shot after him.

Link darted through the water, finally reaching the Northern rapids, he shot through the water at amazing speeds. The troops were on his tail. He saw them start to float above the water for air. He drew his bow, putting an arrow in, he let the current take him. He stuck the bow out, firing it at one of the troops, who was hit in the face.

He fell dead.

The rest, tired of floating, went back up the rapids to watch the Domain. Link continued down, falling form a small water fall, he went under water. With the garments, he kicked off. He soared from the waters surface, onto the shore.

He changed back into his dry green cloths, which were a little damp. He ran to the other side of the lake, since most men were asleep. He went to the public stable, paid ten rupees, and got his horse back. He saddled up, and rode off.

NOTE: Not everything in the story is from a dream. But a lot of things are.

Chapter 6: Saving a village

Link rode back to Lon Lon, arriving late at night. Fewer men were out in front of the ranch. As he closed in on the entrance, a knight rode up,” Sorry, sir, due to safety purposes, we can let no one in between the hours of 12-2."

Link raised a brow,” Last time, Malon told me '11-4', what, were we attacked?"

"Yes sir, we saw a few enemy knights approaching, well, they seemed to be, they had long necks and-"

"Yeah, I just finished killing off a group at the Zora's Domain."

"WHAT!? Kid, that's dangerous! Don't do that! If I catch you leaving for that again, I'm having you arrested for safety purposes. Leave war for the military!" he exclaimed.

Link nodded slowly, riding his horse into the ranch, putting it in the stables, he went to his tent, which he found in fairly good condition. He immediately went back to sleep.

He awoke the next day by hearing voices and shouts outside. He got up, stretching quickly; he put on his boots, sheathed his sword, and went out. He found men running around training.

He searched among the crowd, looking for one of his friends. Spotting Malon, he walked over," Malon! What time is it? I need to know so I can leave to warn other villages of the enemy!"

"Huh?" said Malon, getting up after she finished giving a bucket of water to a horse to drink,” What do you mean? Is that what you left for last time? To warn other tribes? You said you left to see if Lake Hylia had a military encampment! Link, you could be killed!"

"I know, I know, but I must go, if I've lasted this long, I can obviously, last longer! So, what time is it?"

"Ugh, 10:32... or... I think it was..."

"Okay, thanks!" Link told her, walking up to his horse, letting her eat, he asked the guards what time it was.

"Well, boy, its 11:00, its gonna be another hour before you can leave..."

"Oh, okay, thanks." He replied, walking away. You might have guessed, an hour was too long right now for Link. Who knows who darkness was attacking just then! He saddled up his horse, and rode him out of the practice track. Everyone paid little attention, until a knight rode up to him, telling him citizens couldn't use it for practice.

"Sorry son, you're going to have to get off your horse."

"No, I'm going to go!"

The horse began to run. The knight rode after him, people began to watch as Link rode to the fence. He went up in speed, and suddenly, his horse leapt up over the fence. An arrow was fired from a stockade at him, but he continued to ride away. He heard shouts behind him, and soon, Lon Lon was below the horizon.

He began riding to the Southern woods, where he would look for another village to warn. He rode through a small clearing in the woods, knowing humans had been there.

He rode to a small, really old bridge, which he crossed. Entering a much better cut trail through the woods, he rode onward, all the way till he reached the entrance to a small village. An old water wheel was running, people walked about, a farmer was fertilizing his plants.

A few young kids played in their back-yard. One had a sling-shot. Link brought his horse up to a man, who greeted him,” Welcome to Ordon!"

"Hello, I am looking for villages in Hyrule, to warn them of an attack."

"An attack?! By who?" the man questioned.

"By a... um... a enemy to Hyrule, they're looking for people to attack, I've seen hundreds of their soldiers marching, and they've been wreaking havoc across the land."

"We have no soldiers! We'd be killed instantly!" the man protested.

"I'm here; I could ride to a local military base and warn them to send soldiers here." Link offered. The sad thing is, local, was Lake Hylia, he couldn't return to Lon Lon.

"Well, I guess..." the man replied.

Link nodded, riding off. He rode all across the land, to Lake Hylia. He got some knights and archers with him.

When they later arrived to Ordon, they found hundreds of soldiers of darkness. A body of one of the villagers lay before Link. The soldiers ran around, a house was on fire. The knights charged, they were greatly out-numbered. The archers opened fire on a group of troops. A man began running at Link with his large battle axe, but link drew his bow.

Reaching in his quiver, he placed the arrow in the string, took aim carefully, and let go. The arrow flew into the man's chest. He fell to his death with a scream in agony.

A few hylian pikemen had arrived and began to fight. An arrow flew passed Link's head. He turned his horse around, running to another troop; he sliced the man's head in two while passing. He saw a messenger on horse-back ride off to Lake Hylia.

He turned back around, loading in another arrow; he hit an enemy knight in his long neck. He rode over to a kid, who about to have his head was chopped off. He shot an arrow at the man with the axe, which looked up after it had just missed his head.

Link drew a sword, hitting the man has he rode by. The kid ran to his house where a hylian knight was positioned. Link turned to see an enemy archer fire. It hit a knight in the chest, who began to bleed, and then fall off. He drew another arrow to his bow, letting the string go; it nailed the creature in the head.

Finally, just as they were out of men, several pikemen, archers, and knights rode up, later followed by catapults. The enemy continued to fight, showing no sign of giving up. A hylian archer fell dead, and Link rode to the body, filling his quiver back up with arrows. He loaded his bow, hitting another enemy knight.

The enemy ran back over the hills as one of their men was crushed by the catapult's fire. They ran as fast as they could, a few being hit by a flying arrow before they could get over the hill.

Finally, after the close-call, the villagers came back out. The mayor looked around,” Where’d... that... kid go?"

Chapter 7: Fire and Ice

Link looked only ahead of himself as he continued to ride west. He wouldn't dare go north to Lon Lon.

He rode out to a small puddle, his horse running through it, mud splashed all over Link's legs, yet he didn't mind. His attempts to save Hyrule were failing, if he wouldn't have left Lon Lon when he did, Ordon would have been wiped out. All those innocents no one knew about would have died.

Now, he could never go back there without being arrested. He stopped his horse a moment looking through the evening."P...Perhaps... Dark Link is too fast for me... he just... how does he do it...?"

He shook his head slowly, riding onward. With no place to stop for the night, he continued. Even through the next day he rode, and finally, what he was looking for, came to him. The desert.

He rode through a large bridge, and into a village. The houses were carved from the Cliffside, and tanned women walked around.

Well armed.

Luckily, no one noticed him as he got off his horse. His horse seemed to stay right there,” Stay right there, girl, I've gotta get passed these women."

He snuck into one of the houses. Going through a series of stairs and ladders, he found himself on the roof of another house. To get to the other side, he'd have to jump. He ran back a few steps, caught his breath, and then ran. He closed his eyes as his feet left the ground, all until he felt them hit the roof.

He had made it. He walked over the cliff, which protected the village from a wasteland. A wasteland where a sand storm always brewed. He crossed a bridge over some quicksand, continuing through the storm.

Sand stung wherever he had bare skin, it especially hurt when it touched his scars. He wandered to an old building. It had no door, but stairs to its roof. A hole sat at the top, with a ladder nailed down. He began to climb down the ladder, finding it surprisingly long.

He crawled down into a one roomed area. Nothing but a few torches kept light in. A few of the gerudo exiles sat at a long table, talking. The leader looked up, seeing him, she told her friends, then, drawing her weapon, she approached him,” Sorry, no men here, I'm going to ask you to leave. We have a rebellion on our hands."

Link nodded," Um, I'm simply trying to find a large boulder."

"Well," one of the women at the table began,” I’ve seen one before, continue heading west, and you'll see a gate, go in, and the cliff will protect you from the storm, I'm pretty sure a rock was there.

"Um, thanks..." he said, then adding under his breath," I guess ..."

He went up the ladder, climbing to the top. He continued to head west, all until night reaching another cliff, which sheltered him from the storm, there sat a large boulder.

It hand an opening, he walked in.

"No, I don't care if it's not like the last temple we destroyed, your staying in here." said Dark Link, talking to two women holding broom sticks.

"But,” began one of the witches, who wore a red gem on her forehead,” Can’t we gather the army and raid the gerudos?"

"NO!" Dark Link exclaimed,” I said stay! My idiotic version of the light is coming here, I can feel it, you're going to stay here, so when he does come, he gets a... 'nice' welcome."

The ladies slowly nodded,"...Yes sir..." With that, Dark Link disappeared.

"Well, koume, this stinks."

"Yes, kotake, my dear sister, I know, that idiot doesn't understand our material. We're still young! Only 708 years old," Link had to old back laughing at that remark”and agile!" continued the witch.

They then floated through a door, which began closing. Link ran up the stairs, and ducked, sliding through the door, which closed right as his feet passed.

He slammed into a set of skeletons and rotting bodies, which he quickly pulled away from,” WHOA!" he said, falling back over. He was scared out of his mind. He slowly stood back up, dusting himself back off, he continued through the hall. Pools of sand were carved into the floor. Link leaned to look at one which he thought moved. He was right.

Many skeletons began crawling out. They were small, but every one of them had a spear. Then, more had begun to crawl from the other pools, and soon, Link was surrounded by nearly a hundred little soldiers together, crowding in on him.

He was scared to the point of letting them kill him, but he felt a strange energy flow through him. He gripped his sword tighter, closing his eyes, he basically let the feeling inside him control his body, and then, he felt himself spin very fast.

When he opened his eyes, he found all the soldiers lying in pieces. Apparently, he had spun his sword around right as he was to be killed, and had killed them all. In one swing.

He ran down the hall, and into a staircase. He began to go up the flights of stairs, all until he reached a large door. He went inside, crawling into an arena.

He felt strange sounds around him, and then voices were heard.

****
Ocarina of Time?
****
"Look at that stupid kid, coming to make himself a sacrifice to Lord Darkness!"

"Huh...?"Link said to himself quietly, looking up, he found the witches floating above him. One held a shield,"Oh koume, this shield is pretty, I found it in a secret chamber."

"Wonderful! Lets get back to that kid thou-" Kotake was horrified to see her sister being hit by an arrow, which she quickly tore form her body.

The shield fell, which Link grabbed. It was read, and a mirror on the front.

"No!" one of the witches yelled. She threw a ball of fire at him, Link blocked with the shield, which shot it back at the ice sister. The sister screamed falling to the ground. Link stabbed her, only one more.

She threw another fire ball at Link, who quickly blocked it. It shot the blast back at her, who sucked the blast in, firing it as an even larger energy blast. Link knew he couldn't reflect it, he jumped off the arena. The other witch was engulfed in more flame.

Unfortunately for her sister, she was blown to bits. Link climbed back on the arena, seeing the other witch fall off her broom. Crying.

"NO!!!" she screeched, rolling around.

"Ugh, you shouldn't have fought me."

Then she began building a fire ball so big, it nearly was touching Link before she even threw it. She yelled as it took more and more of her energy away to make it larger.

Link put an arrow in his bow, took aim, and let go. The witch was hit. The energy ball just went out in a quick flare. She moaned in pain.

Link knew only to put her out of her misery. He stabbed the witch.

He left through the exit, and walked back through the sand, and back to his horse. He got on, turned around, and rode off. He rode through the fields until night, where he stopped at a shop near the shores by Lake Hylia.

He went to a local inn, where he got a room, and went in. He fell onto the bed. It felt stiff and hard, yet it felt so good to his back. He rolled over, falling asleep quickly.

Chapter 8: Middle of the Field

Link awoke early that morning, right before dawn infact.

He slowly equipped himself, gearing Epona; he saddled up, and rode off. For what? He didn't know.

He pulled back on the reins as Epona stopped. He saw a large portion of the Hylian army marching. On further investigation, they were marching right at the soldiers of Darkness, who marched forward as well.

Link flinched as horns blew, knights on both sides began to ride at amazing speeds to each other, and the men began running fast.

The knights in the lead, clashed with other knights. Pikemen following them ran into every enemy they saw. Link flinched a horrible, loud screams pierced the morning air.

The sun was hardly up and the battle was already in full heat. Link finally could no longer wait. He drew his sword, snapping the reins, his horse charged at the army.

When he reached an enemy pikemen, he reared his horse back, who's hooves slammed into the man's face, knocking him out cold. Link drew his bow, placing an arrow in, he took aim. He let go, his arrow flew truly, impacting the knight on the head.

The knight screamed, falling to his doom. An arrow flew past Link's head, and he knew to continue riding. He snapped the rein, and his horse shot off. He rode to an enemy catapult. He hit the leader in the head with his blade. Another ran screaming at him with a battle axe. Link reared his horse back again. The man had a hoof on his nose, so to speak.

The man staggered back, before Link loaded another arrow, letting it fly into his face. Another man began running, so Link once again, put an arrow into his head.

Link nodded to himself, as he got off his horse. He began to tear at the catapult, breaking it apart by hand. After he left it in wreckage, he once more, rode off. He loaded another arrow in letting it go on a random soldier.

An arrow went by his back, and he continued to move, he could not be killed yet. He rode past another unlucky soldier of darkness, who found himself without a head.

Now, multiple arrows and other weapons were all around Link. He had to get back to the hylian soldier lines. He rode back around to the hylian men, still fighting darkness. Dead bodies were everywhere in the middle.

Link rode to a supply wagon, the farmer sat at the front," Ah! You're the one who left illegally!"

"I had to, and because of that, I arrived in time to save a village..." Link retorted.

"Ugh, whatever, you still are too foolish to come back to my farm, that's final."

Link heard a familiar voice in the back of the wagon,"But father!"

He looked back to see Malon attending to a wounded soldier, who had been shot by an arrow twice.” No, Malon, I said give it up!"

She went back to her work,” Well uh-"

"GO NOW!"

"Yes sir..." Link said sheepishly, riding off back to the soldiers.

He rode back into the middle where everyone fought. More bodies lay on the ground. Link saw what he was looking for, Dark Link sat on his war horse commanding his men. Link snapped his reins, running strait through the middle of the battle field.

He drew his bow, putting an arrow in and then firing. He missed Dark Link's head, who quickly veered back, snapping his rein, he rode off.

Link but his bow up, drawing his sword he rode after him. His horse sped up. Dark Link wasn't getting away again! Dark Link let out a strange howl, and now knights were following Link.

"Dangit!" Link muttered to himself.

He turned around, riding strait up to a knight, the man swung his sword. Link ducked, and right before the man escaped, Link slashed his back. The man fell off and was trampled by Epona as Link rode back to Dark Link.

He loaded in another arrow, firing, it missed his shadow again. An arrow went by Link's head. the knights were firing. He turned back around, cutting a knight as he rode, he had to let Dark Link go, he was outnumbered. He arrived back at the battle field; the Hylian army was retreating, so he went with them back to Lon Lon.

He put his horse in his stable. He put some armor on himself from the wall. He looked like a knight. He disguised Epona as a war-horse. The only one who could know Epona would be Malon, who luckily spent less time in the stables. He slept out under the stars that knight, since his old tent had been burnt.

He awoke the next morning and went to the milk storehouse, where several boxes of milk were stored.

Upon entering, he found the mask man asleep. He left as to not draw attention. He walked into the fields, where horses grazed. He looked up, remembering the battle from before. And just how brutal it was.

Thanks. The chapter was kinda short, but it's good to hear that every now and then.

I guess I'll write another one for tonight.

A Cheesy Disguise, Kid

Link went out the next day. He went with the other knights.

"Alright you pathetic, lot,” began the commander on his horse,” You’re racing each other around the track, we set fences up to give you more of a challenge, do not injure another soldier to win!"

Link made his horse trot up to the starting line,” GO!" the general exclaimed.

Link snapped the reins; his horse reared back, the shot forward. He passed a few of the knights with ease. Leaping of a fence, he passed another. He snapped the reins as he leapt another one. He was in second. He came neck to neck with another knight, who looked like a sergeant.

Link snapped at the reins, his horse leapt over yet another fence.” Give it up, private..." The sergeant said.

Link put on a frown behind his helmet. He leapt another fence, he was coming on to the end. He snapped his reins again, going a tad faster. He was tied. He went faster, the other knight right by him. They passed in a tie.

"Dangit, yer pretty good..." The knight gave him a nod before riding over to the stables to feed his horse for that morning. Link rode his to the same stable. He leapt off his horse. Pouring food in his trough, he filled a bucket with water, and left the horse secure in it's stall.

He stepped out into the sun, while other knights took a lot of armor off to cool of, he kept his on, so no one would see. He didn't want to be kicked out to soon. He went and sat under a shady tree, when he heard a voice,” Wow, low..." Link stood up, looking around. No one.

"That's one cheesy disguise, kid..." Said the familiar voice again. Suddenly, his shadow crawled from the ground a bit. The shade hid him from view,” I thought you'd know better, than to sneak in on these guys, I see why no one likes you..."

"Oh quiet, no one here likes you either..."

"I'm worshiped in the Dark Land."

"You're worshiped by nasty crap eating scums! Just like you!" Link retorted.

He felt pressure on his chest, like two hands pushing him, and he fell down. He heard a faint laugh as his shadow faded away. He glowered under his helmet.

Link found military life hard, he trained and worked hard all day, even Epona, his mighty horse was tired. Late that evening after running another race, he brought Epona back in the stable. He walked out into the dusk. Hardly any light remained in the west. The chill night wind began blowing softly.

Soldiers and farmers were walking into their tents and small cabins. Link headed across the field, into the milk storage. The mask man was gone. He plopped himself on a milk box. He sighed deeply, it was a hard day.

He began to close his eyes, drifting off. His mu-

"Well, you're a pretty good knight for a runaway."

"Huh? Crap, I should have figured you'd know, Zelda." Link replied.

"It was easy to spot your horse out there. And your uniform was just... cheap, a little out dated."

"I got it off the wall." Link said, holding back laughing from here comments.

"You should really be careful, easy to get killed for doing that."

"I want to fight my shadow's army legally." Link said honestly.

"Just leave it to the military, they're good." Zelda had now shut the door,” Honestly you're being a fool!"

"I know the military's good, but it's my shadow!"

"Whatever, but you should be careful, but Link, just take this. Ask... what do you want most?"

****
Zelda smiled, tossing the compass to Jack.
****
She smiled weakly, tossing a glowing orb to Link.” The Globe of truth."

"It's not really a globe." Link said. He looked up, Zelda didn't hear him, she had already left. Link sighed, going back to sleep.

Link awoke the next morning, going back to the usual routine, and throughout the week continued to train. Eventually, the general rode up as Link was talking to the same sergeant.

"Greetings, 100 men from the enemy are marching here, you must stop them..."

He continued on with his orders,” Who’s he?" Link questioned.

"You really a dumb soldier kid, he's leader of the whole army!"

"What's his na-?"

"Kid, stop talking!" another higher rank ordered. A few men laughed. So after the orders, Link rode out with the other knights, followed by infantry. It felt amazing, the 'knight in shining armor', riding out to battle fearlessly, surrounded by other powerful, well trained knights.

As Link spotted the soldiers on the horizon, he was ordered to draw his weapon and speed up. He did as he was told. He whisper quickly to the sergeant,” What’s his name?"

"Well, it's- LOOK OUT, KID!" he exclaimed.

Link ducked just in time as a sword went over his head, hitting another knight's head.

Link now had met the enemy. He stabbed one of the knights as he passed him. He drew his bow and arrow, firing at a random infantry unit. He turned his horse around, running past a knight, slicing the man off his horse. He screamed in agony as he was trampled by hooves.

Link shot another arrow at an enemy knight, which had just missed his head. His sword made contact with another sword. An arrow went over his head; he rode away in time as an axe missed his back. He was in bad danger.

He hit another enemy knight in the back. The man yelled, staying on. Link chased him, finally hitting him again. The man fell off his horse. Twitching. Link rode to the battle. The trampled some infantry, slicing another. An arrow went by him. He was unlucky the next time.

An arm flew into his shoulder. He gasped fore air a second, and resumed fighting. It hurt, but he would think about it later.

Eventually, after the battle, he rode in the field, slowly taking the arrow out. He filched, wrapping the wound up with an old bandage. He rode back to his lines. He had lost several men. Darkness had lost more.

That night they rode into the ranch. Right as Link finished with Epona, he went back to the milk storage. He rested a bit, before he eventually went back out into the night. He walked over to the sergeant,” Sir, what was that man's name?"

"Ganondorf. Go away, I'm busy." he replied.

Link nodded, walking off. He passed a farmer at work feeding a few cows. He noticed Malon walk out of the house, back to one of the horses. She was crazy over those animals!

He approached her," Malon,"

She looked up," What'd I do, I was just feeding the ho-"

"Din, it's just me. Link." He told her, taking off his helmet, to reveal his head, smaller than it should be in the armor.

"Heh, you look silly in there, what are you doing? My father told you to leave."

"I didn't wanna miss out on any of the fighting; after all, this war partly is my fault."

"How?” she questioned.

"Hard to explain." he replied.

Malon nodded,” Well what abou-"

"Soldiers! Get your weapons! We're under attack!"

Link looked at her,” Sorry, gotta go." he said, putting his helmet back on, running off. Some of the knights went to the stable, he joined the infantry. He went on the fence he had jumped, and found a few troops firing arrows at them.

Link loaded his bow, taking careful aim, he let the string go. The arrow flew, hitting on in the head. Link chuckled.

A few infantry units fired arrows at the darkness soldiers, and in response, the obviously fired back.

Link loaded his bow again, taking out another soldier. The men scattered as infantry fired back again. A few bodies were strewn on the field. A small skirmish to be sure.

Link knew Malon went back inside, so he went back into the storage. He fell onto the ground, falling asleep.

He would awake, to find just more training. Nothing special.
