D.C. Outskirts Defense Force, 8th Year

(Act/tra)

Log 1<…yr. 2104, January

As Tom walked down the path leading to the loading dock, he felt ill at ease. For the past few months, no sun every shone through the thick, hueless clouds. Constant drizzle dampened the soil and drowned small plants over the course of a couple days. 50 mile per hour gusts nearly toppled trees and tipped over trashcans, spewing garbage all over the streets. An average of 30 degree (Fahrenheit) weather during the day, and 10 at night froze the morning dew to a frost every single morning. And who could forget the occasional snowfall that’s would bury the streets in 3 feet of snow.

But weather wasn’t the only thing that was bothering him. Back at the base, or school as most students of the WM. Battle Encampment (The technical name that only the headmaster said) things were not going too well. He was barely passing his Math classes, and his so-called friends ignored him sometimes, except for one guy named Val. Tom and Val were best friends. There was another named Kyle, who was always unpredictable. One minute he’s talking to you, the next he’s buying something from the snack bar. There was also a girl named Elizabeth who used to hang around with Tom and his friends, and she was even “going out” with Kyle, but it didn’t turn out too well. That’s when everything broke apart. Elizabeth’s friends were Tom’s friends because they were connected by Kyle…

The transport was pulling into the station, and Tom was jerked out of his day dreaming. He climbed into the transport, the clanking of the rifle on his back following him on.

<Alright, so what do you think? If this was boring sorry, it’ll get better>

Tom sat down in his usual seat in the back. The way the transport worked was the 6th years in front, 7th in the middle, and 8th in the back. Once in a while a stupid 6th year would try to sit in the back, only met with the cold shoulder. That would usually creep them out and they would go back to the front. When Tom was a 6th year, if you even joked about sitting in the back, the eights would beat you up, or at least try.

“Hey, Tom!” Cameron yelled over his overly loud music, even though Tom was right in front of him.
“Hey.” Tom said in his usual reply. He took his position at the machine gun aiming out the window. The transport was the most boring part of the day, aside from math. All you did was sit in you seat, staring out the window in the transport. The only cool thing about it was the outside. It was like 10 foot wide, 20 foot long wall with wheels 5 feet across. Nothing could stop it as way as Tom knew.

The Transport pulled up to the front entrance with a loud screech and the students filed out. The slow drizzle outside grew to a heavy downpour as the students ran to their grade hallways.

Once Tom made it in, he looked for his friend Val. He usually hung out with Bennett and Sam in the morning, although, Tom always wondered why he hung around with Sam. He was probably the most annoying kid in the school, aside from his brother, Ben, who was in detention most of the time. Tom walked up next to Val and listened to their conversation.

“When I get older, I’m going to buy the B800 Falcon. That thing can go form 0 to 400 mph in 5 seconds!” Sam said.
“Oh yeah, that’s practical.” Val said sarcastically. “Where are you going to do that 36th street?” 36th street was known to be the curviest, hilliest street in the neighborhood.
“The autobahn.” Sam declared.
“So you’re going to buy a car just to drive on the autobahn?” Val asked.
“Shut up.” Sam said as he lunged at Val. Val raised an eyebrow and turned towards Tom. “Hey.”
“Hey. Did you ever get the Zilchon Battle Armor?” To, asked, stretching the name to make it sound stupider than it already was.
“No, I’m not allowed to play on weekdays.”
“That never stopped you before.”
“…You got a point there…” Val was distracted by new stupid conversation that Sam brewed up.
“I can’t believe Kendal thought she could run for grade representative. No one likes her. When will she figure that out?”
“Yeah, some people aren’t very self aware…” Tom said. Sam looked at him and lunged at him too. Tom just starred at him, not amused. Then same stomped on him foot, only to be greeted by a punch on the arm from Austin who was walking by. Sam ran after him.
“Moron.” Tom muttered as the bell rang to go to your first class.

<These morning conversations actually happen at school, just so you know>
