Keno Kedieo's tale (Based in the Zelda world) Chap #1
"Hey Dinsfear, don't hurt me." Cario said, pretending to cower in fear. Cario had blond hair, green eyes, and wore a aquamarine tunic. "Joke while you can Cario, because when you become six tomorrow, the grown ups will take you to get the operation, and then you will become a vegetable like them." Dinsfire retorted. Just then, Aryan walked up. Aryan, a boy with orange hair, blue eyes, and wearing a brown colored tunic. "Come on Cario, she’s not worth your time." Aryan said. "Your right Aryan, No reason to waste time on her anyway." Cario said, nodding to Aryan. The two boys left, and Dinsfire looked around, taking in the scenery, although she sees it every day. The houses are close together but have about two meters distance from each other so the people don't feel too crowded, there was many types of trees around and lots of them, and the smells of food and smoke filled Dinsfire's lungs.
A handsome man, about eighteen years old, walks up to Dinsfire. He has short brown hair, green eyes, and wore a brown cloak. "Excuse me miss, I'm looking for a place I can stay a couple of nights, do you know where I can go?" The man asked. "Yeah, this way." Dinsfire said, running off and looking over her shoulder to see if the traveler was coming. 'Finally, a customer for our inn!' Dinsfire thought. After about fifteen minutes of running threw alleys and passages, they arrived at the Kedieo inn. As Dinsfire and the traveler entered the inn, Angel Kedieo, Dinsfire's mother, stood up and curtsied. The inn was in preety good shape, its mahogany colored wood seemed to gleam from the sunlight that shown from the stain glass windows. "Greetings traveler, welcome to the Kedieo inn, how long will you be staying with us?" Angel asked. "Two days, then I must be on my way." The traveler said. Angel nodded to Dinsfire and put up three fingers. "Your room is this way." Angel said as she lead the traveler to his room and Dinsfire recorded his stay in room three. About two O'clock Dinsfire and the traveler crashed into each other in the hall of the inn. "Sorry...." Dinsfire said, looking at the traveler as he stood up. "There is no need to apologize miss, the fault is all mine." He said as he helped Dinsfire up. "So tell me miss, what is your name? I'm Keno." The traveler said. "My name is Dinsfire, nice to meet ya." Dinsfire said. "Likewise. Dinsfire, do you know where I can get some ammo?" Keno asked. "Yeah come on." Dinsfire said, giving a wink and a little crooked smile. 'He's allot more polite then our last guests.' Dinsfire thought as she lead him out of the inn. The wind had picked up and the scent of rain was carried within it. Dinsfire lead Keno threw the alleys and passageways yet again, but this time to get to the other side of town. About an hour later, they arrived outside of Revolvers and Dinsfire turned around. She smiled and nodded over to the door. "That’s where you can get your ammo." She said. "Thanks." Keno said with a smile and then bowed slightly. Keno walked into Revolver's while Dinsfire went into an alleyway and started dancing. Keno browsed around carefully, picking out random types of ammo for his guns. Dinsfire spun around and danced freely, letting it take control of her and calm her down. It was an extremely great feeling, one that made you feel as though you obtained all the happiness in the world, or world peace. After paying for the ammo out the front desk, Keno walked back outside where the cloudless blue sky seemed to beckon him. 'The beckon of the traveler.' Keno thought and shifted his head to the right. Keno stared silently, memorized by Dinsfire's beautiful dancing. He could tell that she put her soul into each move she made, and beamed proudly because of this. 'She is on the path of learning to follow her heart.' Keno thought. Dinsfire was so caught up in her dancing that she didn't notice Keno until he had been standing outside of the store for a while. Dinsfire stopped dancing, blush spreading into her cheeks like wildfire. 'How long has he been standing there? God, this is so embarrassing.' Dinsfire thought. "You dance with allot of passion, that is a great thing you know. It makes it all the more beautiful." Keno said, smiling brightly. "Really? You think so?" Dinsfire asked seriously. Keno nodded. "The sun sets early in this village, we should head back to the inn before it starts growing dark." Keno said. The two walked back slowly, and when they got back to the inn, there was about an hour before it started to grow dark. Keno left Dinsfire with his guns and ammo to practice in a nearby shooting gallery while she did her chores. Dinsfire began to clean the rooms, dusting, getting the dirty sheets and drapes, the usual stuff. 'I hate chores.' Dinsfire thought as she was caring some of the sheets and things downstairs to the laundry area. In about half an hour, the cleaning was all done and Dinsfire went outside. The sun castes her shadow all along the house and made they sky show pinks, oranges, and purples which were really pollution. Dinsfire sat on the bench outside the inn and began to hum. She was not sure how much time passed, but she knew it was not allot, because Keno came up to her and the sun still wasn't in setting mode yet. Keno was covered in sweat and gunpowder, but looked as happy as ever. "Hey Dinsfire, what are you up to?" Keno asked. "Not much, just got done cleaning." Dinsfire said. Keno gave a nod. "Would you mind coming with me for a walk?" Keno asked. "No I don't mind." Dinsfire said. As Keno and Dinsfire were walking, they noticed Cario walking with his parents. When Cario saw Dinsfire he gave her a dirty look which she returned instantly. "Who is that?" Keno asked, staring after Cario. "That was Cario Capreha. He must be going to get the operation a day early." Dinsfire said. "Operation?" Keno asked. "When a kid becomes six years old, their parents and the grown ups feel it is time to have them learn about their future, running the business their parents run. So to do this easily, they take their kid to get the operation, it makes them forget all desires except the one to work with a smile on their face. I'm supposed to get the operation in three days." Dinsfire said. Keno frowned. "The kids have a choice to get the operation or not right?" Keno asked. Dinsfire shook her head. "I'm sorry..." Keno said. "Why?" Dinsfire asked. "That you are forced to get the operation." Keno said. "Oh... thanks." Dinsfire said. After a few more minutes of walking, the two started walking back toward the inn. "Hey Keno? What made you want to travel?" Dinsfire asked. The sun was beginning to set now, making their shadows even longer. "Well someone once told me that when you see a bird flying in the air, it makes you want to travel." Keno said. "So that’s what made you want to travel?" Dinsfire asked. Keno nodded. "That’s interesting." Dinsfire said. Dinsfire also noticed the wind died down, meaning that it was heading in a different direction and that they probably wouldn't be getting rain after all. As they entered the inn, both Keno and Dinsfire went to their rooms to get a good nights sleep. The next morning, Dinsfire awoke at the crack of dawn, her usual routine. Dinsfire opened one of her drawers and pulled out a red tunic, slipping it on over her head. 'Red is a pretty color.' She thought. Dinsfire walked downstairs, and everything in the inn was deathly quite, that was normal though. Dinsfire went to the lounge area of the inn where the guests could talk and sat in a chair, pulling her book up from the side and setting it on her lap. Dinsfire opened it up to the page she was on and took out the bookmark. She snuggled down deeper into the soft chair and began to read, her mind showing her images of what was going on. Sometime later, Dinsfire put her bookmark in her book, set it next to the chair, stood up, and stretched. 'That book is getting pretty interesting.' Dinsfire thought. Dinsfire smiled and walked back into the front desk area of the inn. 'I know, I'll go find Keno.' Dinsfire thought. Dinsfire walked upstairs and checked in all the rooms, not finding Keno anywhere. 'Maybe he is out wandering in town.' Dinsfire thought. Dinsfire walked to the front door and stepped outside, greeted by the warm and light of the sun. The wind was a gentle breeze today, and Dinsfire was in a bright cheery mood. -~-~-~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ The sun was already blazing and the clear blue sky’s gave a bit of hope to those who were afraid of a monsoon. Dinsfire looked around, her face unchanging. Then, by chance she saw Keno and walked over to him. " 'Morning Keno." Dinsfire said with a bright smile when she found him. "Good Morning Dinsfire, did you sleep well?" Keno asked. "I did thank you, I hope you did to." "I did thanks." Keno said. The two continued talking for a while but then Keno was pulled away by the specter to talk. After a while of walking about the village, Dinsfire ran into her twin Dante, and her friend Annie Marcico. "Hey sis, what’s up?" Dante asked. "Nothing, but where have you been the last couple of days?" Dinsfire asked. "He has been with me!" Annie yelled before Dante could respond. Dinsfire stared at the two a moment and then nodded. "So, shall we go riding today?" Annie asked. "Yeah, why not?" Dinsfire asked. The trio began to walk back to Annie's house in a cheery mood. Dinsfire slowed and let Annie and Dante pass her before picking up two balls of mud, and throwing them at her friends. "Ha ha, Gotcha!" Dinsfire said with an evil smile on her face. "That’s not funny!" Annie said angrily as she and Dante spun around. Dante laughed, picked up a mud ball and threw it back at Dinsfire. It hit her right in the face causing her to stumble. Dinsfire coughed and then wiped the mud from her face only to have it be replaced by Annie's mud ball. All three laughed and then began an all out mud ball war. They arrived at Annie's house completed soaked in mud. As Annie's mother stepped outside she catches the eye of Annie who hides behind Dante. "Well well, three mud monsters, I guess its time for me to get the pail of water and rinse 'em off." Annie's mom said. Annie groaned and Dinsfire looked around for somewhere to hide, but before they could do anything however, Annie's brother Halberd came up behind them and dumped a huge bucket of water upon them. After the three were cleaned up, they went back behind Annie's house, where the only real patch of green still lived. There was about three acre's of land. The stable was large and made of Red wood, since that was the only good wood around here. Dinsfire smiles as she hears their horses whinny, calling out to them. Dante heaved the heavy door open and the three went inside. Annie's horse was a snow white Arabian, Dante's was a dark bay Thurobreed, and Dinsfire's horse was a big black clysdale. Dinsfire, Dante, and Annie groomed their horses, tacked up, and then mounted their horse. Annie's horse Snow was very jumpy and Dante's horse Joey kept trying to bolt forward. It seemed as though Tsume, Dinsfire's horse was the only well behaved creature. Dinsfire laughed and then looked at her brother and friend. "Race ya'." Dinsfire said, urging her horse forward. "Hey no fair!" Dante shouted. "You got a head start!" Annie added. Dinsfire turned 'round in the saddle, smiling at her friends mischievously. The three were thundering across Hyrule field in no time, laughing and giggling their heads off. Dinsfire was still in the lead with Dante a few horse lengths behind and Annie only about a foot behind him. Dinsfire halted Tsume and made him rear up, pawing at the air. The other two horses did the same but Annie and Dante fell out of their saddles. Dinsfire stared at them innocently a moment before bolting off again. About noon, the three stopped at an orchard near the ranch. Dinsfire climbed the tree and cut down a bunch of apples for them. After they feed their horses and had them securely tied up so that they would not run away, the three began to eat their lunch. So Dinsfire, you scared about getting the operation?" Dante asked. "Who wouldn't be?" Dinsfire answered back. Annie looked around and then spoke low. "Cario." She whispered. Keno shot an icy glare at Annie and then threw a piece of apple at her. After their lunch, the trio started their way back to Annie's house. "Do we have to go home?" Dante asked, wanting to stay out longer. "Yes!" Annie and Dinsfire said in unison. Dante sighed and lent forward in his saddle, causing Joey to leap forward. The girls followed his example and once again were thundering across Hyrule field. Behind them they left clear blue sky’s and a dusty trail. Dinsfire wanted this moment to last for ever, the feeling that she was flying threw the air, but she knew it would not. Once they arrived at Annie's, they rubbed down their horses, gave them some feed, and all exchanged quick goodbyes. Then, Dinsfire and Dante began to race home, their shoes pounding the sidewalk, their hearts racing, and their eyes full of dust. The two entered the inn quietly and washed up for dinner. After a hearty meal of steaming hot vegetables, chicken, and their mothers famous banana pudding, Dante went back to his room, but Dinsfire had other ideas. Dinsfire quickly did the dishes and set them out to dry, then went to her mothers office in the west wing of the inn.” Mother? I need to speak with you." Dinsfire said. "Yes? What is it I'm kind of busy." Angel said as she wrote something down on a piece of parchment. "I'm not going to run the inn and I'm not getting the operation!" Dinsfire said. Angel dropped her quill and turned to her daughter. "G.... go to your room." Angel said. Dinsfire turned heel and went to her room. 'I hope this doesn't come back to haunt me later.... they wouldn't hurt a near seven year old like me would they?' She thought. The next morning Dinsfire woke up like any other day. Dinsfire slipped on her red tunic, ate a quick breakfast, and went about her morning chores. Dinsfire knew today was the day Keno would be leaving and it saddened her. Dinsfire went outside, only to find the Townspeople, The Specter, and her mother. Something silver caught Dinsfire's eye and when she looked at it she saw it was a dagger, and worse, it was in her mothers hand. Dinsfire knew that it meant only one thing and stopped dead in her tracks. When ever the towns people gathered this way, it meant someone was being 'Disposed of.' Dinsfire's face was pale, shocked, and confused. The people were shouting and cursing at her, making her feel insecure and unsafe. Dinsfire noticed Annie and Dante were not there and wondered if anything happened to them. 'I sure hope nothing happened to them.' Dinsfire thought. "Dinsfire Kedieo! As you have decided against the customs and teachings of this village of this village and your mother, she will have to dispose of her failure of a daughter." The specter said. As soon as the specter finished his sentence, Keno walked up. "Will you take a life only because they want and believe in something different?" Keno asked. "Traveler, you are aware that every place has different customs correct?" The specter asked. "Yes but-" Keno got cut off. "Well this village is no different." The specter said and gave the signal for Angel to kill Dinsfire. Angel charged at her daughter, her eyes gleaming evilly, the dagger ready to make it's mark. Not wanting Dinsfire to be killed, Keno thrusts himself into the path of the dagger. The dagger went threw Keno's body like a knife threw butter, and killed him instantly. Since Keno's death was an accident... the grown ups went into a panic. *********** While this was going on, Annie and Dante were riding hard threw the village on horseback, Tsume with them. They had been informed of what would happen that day, and knew they had to save Dinsfire. Annie looked at Dante, reading the expression on his face. "Don't worry, we'll get there in time." Annie said. Dante smiled and then slowly it changed back into a frown. "Hope your right." Dante whispered. Dinsfire looked at Keno's corpse sadly as the grown ups were busy arguing .“DINSFIRE!!!" Dante yelled as he and Annie thundered up. As they rode past Dinsfire grabbed Tsume's mane and swung on bare back. "We thought we would drop in." Annie said smiling.” Great time to drop in" Dinsfire said. The three rode out of the village and continued riding till they were near the entrance to Greudo Valley. "We'll stop here for the night." Keno said and dismounted. Annie and Dante did the same and then they tied their horses to a tree. After that, Annie, Dante and Dinsfire had set up a camp and in no time were just relaxing. "Hey guys....." Dinsfire said suddenly. Annie and Dante looked over at her. "Yes?" Annie asked. "From now on.... call me Keno ok?" Dinsfire asked. Dante stared at Dinsfire a moment and then asked, "Why?" "Because.... just because..." Dinsfire said, turning her head away. "Ok D- Keno." Annie said. Once Annie and Dante were asleep, Keno got up and headed away from the camp. She could not resist the full moon, cool summer breeze, and the chance for an adventure. Keno was in a bright and cheery mood, or what Dante called, her girly girl mood. She headed across Hyrule field to the forest, where she felt at home and where she felt at peace. As she neared the forest entrance, she heard a low growling. Keno stopped and backed away, her heart racing. From the shadows she could see a pair of eyes staring out at her. Keno screamed and tried to run, only to trip and fall flat on her back. There was a flash of brown and then an immense weight was placed upon her. Keno shook her head and scanned what was now sitting on her, it was a male wolf with brown fur, golden eyes, and it seemed to have a smug look on it's face. Keno couldn't believe her eyes and her heart was beating so fast she thought it was going to explode. 'I'm gonna die....' Keno thought. Keno had lain their quite a while with the wolf on her stomach when she heard more growling. Three other wolves came forth from the shadows, snarling. The first wolf was black with yellow eyes, the second was gray with green eyes, and the last was white with blue eyes. Keno gulped nervously and closed her eyes a moment before opening them again. Keno shivered, her heart beginning to beat wildly once again. She wanted to scream, and keep screaming until the creatures ears rang with her scream. Keno's eyes widened and she could even smell and hear her own fear. The male wolf that had been sitting on her jumped off and began to speak to the other wolves. The other three turned tail and the brown male turned toward Keno. "Keno, get up, we have to go." The wolf said. "How- What- Who are you?" Keno finally asked, getting up. I am Echo." The wolf replied, starting to walk off with Keno following. 'God I'm so confused....... the wolf is talking to me and leading me somewhere... I gots a bad feeling...' Keno thought, glancing around nervously. Echo began to lead Keno threw the desist part of the forest. Thorns and many other sharp plants scratched at her body. Echo looked back and then created a thick fog so Keno couldn't see him. Fear grasped Keno's heart and she took a deep troubled breath. "Echo?" Keno asked, afraid of not being able to see the wolf.” Follow where the path may lead." Echo said. Keno waited about ten minutes to see if Echo said anything else... he didn't. Keno sighed and began to walk again. "Follow where the pa-aaaahhhhhhh!" Keno yelled as she fell down a hole. She hit the ground with a loud thump and let out a cry of pain. Keno stood up, dusting the dirt off her legs and the sitter of her tunic. "No... not here...." Keno whispered. She had heard rumors of this place, bad rumors, the rumors of the 'Bloody Keep.' She knew the only exit was in the desert, and she thought it impossible to make it there in time to back track to where Annie and Dante were. Keno had been walking the twisting maze of the passageways for more than an hour now, the smell of blood, dirt, and rot filling her nose. Keno shivered and looked around. "Why me?" She asked in a whisper. Keno heard someone snicker and began to run full speed, her footsteps echoing threw out the maze of passageways. Keno's heart raced loudly, the sound of it's beating filling her ears. As her foot collided with stone, Keno tripped, crashing loudly onto the cold hard ground. In Keno’s eyes were stars, and as her vision cleared, she slowly got to her feet. Tears of blood ran down her face from the throb of pain. No longer did she hear the echo of the stranger's laughter in the underground tunnel, something that should have realized her, but, it didn't. ::Whom ever the laughter came from is bound to still be around.:: Keno thought. She began walking, her left hand on the sharp rocky wall for support. Some time passed before Keno felt the stinging of her hand. She knew that it must have been grazed on the rocks somewhere along. Keno's eyes had adjusted fairly well to the light so she paused and looked at her hand. A nasty gash was on it, making Keno feel sick to her stomach. Tearing part of her tunic, Keno wrapped it around her hand to help stop the bleeding. As Keno continued along she began to see images that disturbed her both in mind and in spirit, what was worse was that she knew she would never be able to forget them. A silvery white light suddenly appeared and Keno stopped, thinking. : erhaps its a way out.:: She thought, pushing herself onward. The light began to get brighter and brighter with every step Keno took, causing her to tremble with anticipation. After a calculated five minutes or so, Keno was at a small hole where the light was coming in. ::Moonlight! It's moonlight!:: She thought excitedly. Keno pushed her arms out and straightened them to pull herself out, luckily there was just enough room. She looked around at the grayish sand. "The desert." Keno mumbled. "Very good, pup. Are you ready for your next test?" A deep voice rumbled. Keno jumped at the sound and spun around, her heart almost leaping out of her chest in fear. Before her stood a muscular he wolf. His pelt was an extremely dark shadow of brown, as was his eyes. Keno tilted her head to one side. "Was it you who spoke to me?" Keno asked. The wolf nodded. "I am Echo LightPaw. You my young mistress are-?" He paused, gazing into Keno's eyes, making her shiver. "K-keno sir." Keno replied in a voice just above a whisper. "Very good mistress Keno, come, let us go." Echo said. Keno tilted her head but the wolf had already turned and began to walk. "Coming?" He asked with a bit of urgency of his voice. Silently, Keno ran to catch up with h
