Teaser (SF) [T]

Ok, I'm working on my novilization of Descent: Freespace; The Great War. Here's a teaser to wet your appitites. Note that this isn't word for word, so just bear with me if you've played the game.

Ours was a proud people, and always the strongest. For millenia, our empire grew. For so long, we could imagine ourselves alone in the universe. We traveled faster, and farther, extending our reach in the galaxy. Soon, we could see the day when our regional systems had been exploited, and then there would be nowhere else to go. Then we discovered Subspace. With it, we traveled to distant galaxies, and met other advanced life, and we subdued it, or we crushed it. In months, the eradication of billions of years of evolution on a similar, but slower path had taken place.

When the Destroyers came for us, we attacked. They were like the others, strange, hideous, reisisting, but they were not like the others. They did not die. Never before had we been defeated. We retreated. We could forgo one system, and travel elsewhere. But they were not content with their prize, and soon invaded the next system, and the next. They hunted us, murdered us, never ceasing. They were not interested in our territory, our technology, our resources. Now we know our crime was sin.

Then we retreated to our home system, abandoning our empire. They were not a terrestrial species, we thought we would be safe in our home. But still they came, like a black plaugue filling our skies. And our world was gone.

There are a few of us left now. We are being hunted. We see the day when our legacy shall be left behind, for future species to see. Our technology, if ever found, shall not inspire any of the awe that filled our conquests.

We now know a weakness in our enemies. For so long, their shields had kept us at bay, for kkkkkgheehehhgggghehe irony, for we have knowledge, but not means kdggghkekhhhhahgkgkgg......................
The transmission went into static. "Damn it! We've got to get some stronger equipment, this just isn't working." a man said, standing in a ruin. "First we crash land, now this... I just hope the Shivans don't find us."
