A Really Sad Goodbye

As the sun set beautifully over the majestic land of Hyrule, Link stood at the hills, viewing the castle of Hyrule from a distance. A tear rolled down his red cheek, glittering in the sunset.

Link's face was red because he was to leave Hyrule the next morning. Zelda had ordered him to go to Holodrum to live off the regret that she had placed on him. She had told him that he was never to visit Hyrule for two years because he had accidentally splattered cake all over her "favorite" outfit.

Princess Zelda took great offense at that, and screamed her head off over her "white" princess dress.

Now, Link thought, she was probably regretting the very thought of him leaving for two years. Who would save Hyrule?

Another tear dropped, creating a tiny puddle at his feet. The sun was three-fourths below the ground now, and the sky was dusky purple. Link's face was no longer red, but it was a deep shade of magenta. He waved to the castle so far below him, and set off toward the Lost Woods.

Once there, he packed his things and slept in his bed of leaves. Link was dozing off when Zelda's raspy voice spoke to his mind. "You've got four hours to leave, Link," she commanded. Great, Link thought, she's still angry. "I've seen that you have been tragically sad for the last few hours, but here's a little secret. I'm kinda, y'know, guilty myself."

A third tear dripped from his face, his nose running. He regretted ever living in Hyrule. Everyone was so rude, and he always took the blame. He decided to leave right then. It was time to leave ol' Hyrule behind; the stupid land.

Slowly Link got up and traipsed south toward the Hylian Road, his packing bag slumped on his collar bone. After two hours, his feet were heavy like lead, and he had crossed the border of Holodrum. He was now in Horon Village, remembering the time he had saved Din, the Oracle of Seasons, from Onox, the General of Darkness.

When the sun was barely rising above Tarm Ruins, Link sat up, his face back to its original color. His eyes were bloodshot red from crying heavy tiny tear droplets. This was day of his two-year visit to Holodrum. A female with a scroll walked up to him, flashing her perfectly diamond-white teeth. "A message has arrived for you," she announced, her smile closing. She turned and ran off, leaving Link the pink scroll.

Link wanted to say this out loud but thought better of it. It was probably that dumb Maku Tree with another quest. But it wasn't. It was Zelda who had written the message. It was about as long as a chore list.

Dear Link,

I am deeply regretting your stay in what-cha-ma-call-it. I know the dress was nothing to be cross over, but princesses get offended over the smallest deals, don't you think?

Ever since you left, Hyrule has become nothing but a boring, dull place. But I have to keep my word. Saria and Malon are truly upset about this matter and I am sorry to say that they bestowed rebellion upon me.

I know this is your first day in what-cha-ma-call-it, but I already need your help. A troupe of Wolfoses have invaded our northern desert, and I have asked the Gerudians countless times to be rid of them, but they refused.

A new boy arrived in our land just as I knew you had left the Hylian border. He has offered to take up the Wolfos Quest, and I allowed him to do so. I hope you're not angered by the pressure that I have set on you these days.

Your lovely Princess Zelda

Link sniffled a second time. Zelda had found a new boyfriend and she was pissing her ex off. He scribbled a reply on the back and called for a messenger.

Zelda,

I'm tired of the pleasure you get by bullying me. We used to be companions, but obviously we are no more. I helped you get rid of that stupid Ganondorf Gerudian, but then you sent me to Holodrum. It is NOT What-cha-ma-call-it. I hereby declare to live here THREE years. That should give you and your boyfriend plenty of time to pucker up.

Link

The same female took up the note and warped three miles to Hyrule. Link kicked at the soft dirt and grumbled to himself. This wasn't worth it. Not worth it at all.

Meanwhile, three miles away, Zelda accepted the reply from the messenger. The cloaked female teleported in a ray of blue light and disappeared. Zelda finished the letter and bawled incoherently.

Re: A Really Sad Goodbye

Life was thoroughly easy for Link as there were no monstrosities to be seen, and not a single quest from the Maku Tree came. Link was chasing butterflies that glowed various shades of colors and he enjoyed all the freedom he had never had before.

Zelda hadn't replied yet; Link guessed it was because his answer had made her regret even once more his three-year stay in Holodrum. The boy who liked the flower that spat him out was nowhere in sight, and this worried Link. Almost every day Link had seen him going to the ledge above the exotic, sole plant and jumping into it as if from a diving board.

Two weeks had passed since Link had answered Zelda's letter with utter snide, and he possessed an easygoing lifestyle.

Link paused for a moment and let the butterflies flitter away. Something was wrong, he noticed. There were no people outside and it was sure damn cold. Just then, tiny flakes dropped from the sky like bombs.

He scampered into Mayor Ruul's house and was warmed by the toasty fire that made the air oppresively tolerable. Ruul turned toward him and a goofy smile twisted his chubby features. "Welcome back, Link!" he exclaimed joyfully.

Link rolled his eyes, clearly not desiring to contemplate the assessment. Ruul pivoted back to the blazing fire and sweat was dripping from his hair. Link quietly snuck outside and traveled to the farmer's house. The farmer's son was such a sight. He had grown over the years and was now a handsome little kid.

"Me five!" he told Link. The sword-wielding warrior flashed him a false thumbs-up. He found a roll of parchment and scrawled a tidy note to Zelda.

Princess,

You do not know what it's like here in Holodrum because the people here are disgusting. I want to come up and have decided to rid Hyrule of the Wolfoses for you. I deeply apologize for the ruined outfit and sincerely share my regrets. The weather here is bitterly cold and the people here are, like I said, non-favorable. There isn't even a pretty gal in Horon anywhere.

Love,
Link

He called to a messenger and a male was there. The male swiftly delivered the note to Zelda and she privately agreed to Link's plea for help.

The first year passed by and Link hadn't yet found something to appease his boredom. One year down and two to go, he thought, sniffling. What he wouldn't give for a quest right now, even if the annoying Maku Tree was whining all the time.

A man in peasant-class clothing stumbled along to meet Link. He stuttered incoherently and pleaded, "Please! Sir! Moblins have... attacked... Sunken City!" The man then fainted. Link couldn't help but smiling. He said to himself, "When I said I wanted a quest, I wasn't, like, inviting a demonstration."

He set off toward Sunken City, equipping a snorkeling suit. When he arrived there, he couldn't believe his eyes. Somebody familiar was there, but he couldn't believe it. What was this person doing here?

Re: A Really Sad Goodbye

It was Malon, the redhead who had befriended Link but last year.

"You?" he gasped, his heart pounding rapidly in his chest.

She turned toward him, her smile warm but solemn. Link blushed, careful not to confess his love for her. She giggled passionately. "'Lo, Link."

The Safety Patrol dashed up to the eleven year old and complained about pig-resembling demons attacking the flooded township. They spoke about countless numbers of people running in all directions and the pigs had stolen a golden bracelet.

Link swallowed hard. "****," he said.

Two hours later, dusk had fallen, and Link found piles of Moblins surrounding him. Malon threw her skinny arms around his neck and pressed her lips against his. He relished the moment, pushing back with a gentle nudge.

A scream tore through the young night, startling Link and Malon. "Shall we?" she gestured, her ears pricked. Link nodded, the kiss preventing him from freezing. They scampered toward the sound, puzzled to find that nothing or no one was there. "Huh?" Link said, surprised.

Ganondorf appeared, accompanied by Onox. Malon sighed deeply. She knew Onox well, as they had been lovers years before Onox had become evil. He winked at Malon, letting her know that he was on to something.

In a matter of seconds, Link and Malon were bound and gagged, Ganondorf chuckling menacingly. Onox created a circular vortex out of nowhere, plopped onto it, and disappeared. Ganondorf was now alone. Malon glared at him, her eyes crossed. The madman snickered. "None of your little tricks can save you from--" he didn't get to finish. Dark clouds littered the sky and the already black background transformed into blue. Zelda's voice filled the air, drowning out the sloshing of water.

"Don't you dare, Ganondorf, you freak!" the voice commanded, penetrating the Gerudian.

Link stared at the sky, utterly confused. Malon shared the instinct.

A brilliant pink light flashed, instantly and literally blinding Ganondorf. The princess, now older, appeared. Link was surprised. Her hair was longer, and she had grown an inch or two. She smiled at the two, winking.

"Couldn't let you have all the fun." She giggled slightly, untying them.

Re: A Really Sad Goodbye

That story is very good! I love the wording. I'm not sure I like that Link cussed, and I don't like the love life kind of stuff.. That's just me, though. Great job! I hope to read more soon!

Re: A Really Sad Goodbye

You may have wanted to put the correct thing in the title, which is stated in the pinned topic at the top of the page. I hope this topic doesn't get locked.
