My first fanfic!
I like writing, so I thought I might write one between my favorite pairing (Link/Ruto).
Ruto yawned, and a stream of bubbles escaped from her mouth. Opening her eyes she wandered if there was anything her particuly wanted to do today. No way, she decided, and settled back into sleep. She was a very heavy sleeper, and loved staying up late and not getting up for as long as possible, a trait that annoyed her father. Heavy footsteps were coming from outside her room, sure enough, a 10 a.m. ritual was about to be reapeated. "Ruto, have you considered getting up yet?" Ruto pretended to think about it. "No." There was a grunt, a sign her father was getting annoyed. But there was no chance of him actually trying to enter the room, as it had been built to Ruto's specifications. The doorway was a third the width and height of the king, to ensure the Princess could escape from him when she was in trouble, and ensured as many lie-ins as she wished. A mischevious smile lit up her face as she remembered this satisfying fact. "Well, get up soon. We have a lot to do today." "Speak for yourself." Ruto muttered, and slept away the rest of the morning. When the Princess finally clawed herself from the pool she slept in, she took a good look around the room she had occupied for these past seven years. The room had been built a month or so after her rescue from Barinade. The whole incident had knocked a good deal of daring out of her, and she never felt at home inside Jabu Jabu again. Wanting a new place of solitude, she requested a playroom to be built in the walls of her father's throne room. A waterfall from an opened up during the excavations, and had funtioned as a curtain across the entrance, giving the Princess some privacy. She loved this. She had always been a secrative child, and had grown to be a secrative teenager. She still knew of all the secret tunnels, caves and passages in the domain, and loved to spy on the domain from her various peepholes. She looked around her room again. Yes, the battered old toys of childhood had been safely hidden in the back of her wardrobe, save one. It was the one she had made herself, and treasured it dearly. It was a tiny cloth doll, dressed in green, with yellow yarn hair, a single shoe button eye, and a crooked, handstiched smile. He would sit on her vanity in the day, and sleep with her in the pool at night, and needless to say, seven years of clumsy hugs and pretend battles with Barinade had left him rather battered. Still, she loved him no less, and kissed his one eye affectionately. Then gripping his mitten-like hands, she made him do a little dance across the vanity, little leaps, piruettes, then a tiny can-can. "Ruto." came her father's voice. "What?" said Ruto in a dreamy voice. "It is time to feed Jabu Jabu." Ruto scowled. She hated that fish a lot now, since he had swallowed her sapphire and had an unhappy meeting with Barinade there. "Why? I think he can go without food for a bit?" "He is our guardian!" gasped her father, outraged. "Guardian? You may call him that, I call him a stomach? Who saved me from the ice? Who saved me from Morpha, and all of us Zora? Give you a clue, it was not that stupid, fat fish!" Ruto knew it would be pointless to throw a tantrum, her people's trust of Jabu Jabu went deeper then that. "Fine! Just give a minute to eat. I'll lose my appitite watching that greedy creature lining its stomach." Making her Link doll bob a bow to an invisible audience, she wandered off to find something to eat in the shop. An hour or so later, a mountain of fresh fish had been taken out of the storage pool, and was being placed on the alter, Ruto completed the cerimony (witch was basicly murmering a few words and displaying a few gestures), and stepped back. As the high priestess, it was her duty to watch the creature eat, no matter how obvious his lack of table manners. It always annoyed her to see Jabu Jabu engulf food that would feed the entire Domain for a day in a matter of minutes. Soon Jabu Jabu had eaten the entire shoal of fish, and swam to the bottom of the fountain, to sleep until his next meal. "Don't think you'll get brunch, you ugly exuse for a tuna!" snarled Ruto, shaking her fist at the gluttenous sleeper. She decided to visit her friend, the great fairy, who lived on the other side of the fountain. Keeping a wary eye on Jabu Jabu, she briskly swam over to the fairy's grotto. She smiled at the feel of the cool, pristine waters against her skin. The water in the fountain was the freshest in Hyrule, and it was the most delicous too. Pausing a minute, she cupped her hands and sipped. She playfully flicked a few drops at some curious fish, then resumed her swim. Reaching the fairy's shore, Ruto leapt gracefully into the entrance. A soft trickle of laughter reached her ears. Ruto smilded, and hurried into the cave. Marielle, the great fairy was floating, and the foutain burst in greeting. "Little one, little one, what brings you to my cave today?" Marielle asked, tilting her head to one side. "Umm, nothing much. I just felt I wanted to talk to someone." "What is it, little one? Boy trouble?" her smile became a bit wider. "Link trouble?" Ruto turned bright red, and stared at the floor. "Umph." "So are you thinking about your one true love?" Ruto suddenly became very interested in a statue of a cherub. "So you don't want him after all? Well, I'll get to know him better if you don't want to." "No you damn well won't!" yelled Ruto, stamping her foot. "Tee hee, sorry little one. You are still cute when you are angry, do you know that, duchess?" "I am always cute." muttered Ruto sulkily. "How can I be otherwise?" "Simple. When you're ugly." Ruto pouted. "I don't think that's funny." Marielle grinned. "You hormonal teens! You are always so entertaining!"

Re: My first fanfic!
Thanks you guys! That makes me happy!
Umm, what do you mean Ciro? Do I not put enough commas in the story? This is my next entry, I am not sure if it is written well enough. Would any readers drop a line and tell me what you think? It would be appreciated. ^_^ Ruto knew that was no point trying to get sense out of Marielle, when she was in this mood. "I'm going now. I am not in much of a ha-ha mood state of mind, now." "Leaving so soon? Off to greet Link?" Ruto's eyes lit up. "What do you mean?" Marielle smiled smugly. "Would'nt you like to know." "Tell me! Oh tell me, please? Pretty please?" "Pretty please with a cherry on top?" "Pretty please with a cherry on top." scowled Ruto. "Link is coming to the Domain. Ha ha! Prissy Missy begging for infomation from a common little fairie? From humble little me? Such entertainment!" "How do you know?" "I have my ways." "What, visions? Faerie power? What?" "Your father told me this morning. He said it was clear you had no intention of getting up, and he asked me to tell you if he forgot. Which he did." "Thank you!" yelled Ruto, and dashed away. Ruto lay in wait, gently treading water, just below the surface. Link would be here any minute, and she smiled, thinking of the greeting she had in mind. Soon the waterfall parted, and Link stepped throuh the entrance. He would greet King Zora first, then see if Ruto was in her room. Ruto gently glided over to the space by the store, hardly causing a ripple. A few minutes later, Link stood in that space, hands on his hips, wondering where his fiancee was. A naughty grin lit up Ruto's face. Flexing her fingers, the water trembled slightly, causing numerous tiny ripples to appear around herself. The grin grew a bit larger. All of a sudden, bubbles flew from Ruto's hiding place, and began hurtling at Link. They burst apon impact, soaking him to the skin. He tried to defend himself from the barrage, but it was no use. A well aimed bubble sent the hat spinning from his head, landing with a dull squelch against the wall. "Bullseye!" yelled Ruto, leaping from the water and punching the air. "You....win." spluttered Link, hopelssly. But Ruto was far from finished. She pounced apon Link, and before he could react, was riding on his back. "Ruto...what...do...you...think....you...are...doi ng?" "I'm a cowgirl." she replied, matter-of-factly. She lowered her voice to a drawl. "Giddy up slowpoke! Piggyback now!"

Re: My first fanfic!
Thank you! Here is another entry, just for you! ^_~
"Ruto......." wheezed Link. "Can.....you....please.....get down?" "Fine." said Ruto sulkily. "I suppose you'll be needing some new clothes." She stepped down lightly. "I suppose I'll get you a Zora Tunic. And I can watch you change." Link turned scarlet. "No Ruto! You can't!" Ruto pouted. "Aww, look at the little innecont blush! Wait here a moment anyway. Where's Navi?" "She didn't want to come. She says the all the water makes her wings soggy, and gives her a cold. She says hello." Ruto sniffed. "Some people have no taste." She scampered into the store, and came out a few minutes later, her arms piled high with new clothes. "Here we are. And I can find you somewhere private to change." "Where though?" Ruto's eyes twinkled. Asking her about secret places was like asking a fish about water. "Hold on a minute." Walking up to the wall, she gently rapped it with her knuckle. With a click, a section of it slid away, revealing a passage. "Left over from my great-grandmother. Had it constructed in case of attack. She was slightly paranoid." She handed Link the new tunic and clothes, and he walked into the secret passage. The wall purred shut. "If only it wasn't so....opaque." Ruto sighed. A few minutes later, Ruto heard Link knocking, asking to be let out. Ruto toyed with the idea of pretending she hadn't heard, but that would be a bit too mean. She responded with the secret knock, and Link stepped out. "You know, there is a way of opening it from the inside." "Where?" "There is a mecanisim further up. It would be dumb to make a refuge that could only be opened from the outside, don't you think?"

Re: My first fanfic!
Shortly after, Link and Ruto were walking up to the causeway to Ruto's room. King Zora eyed the pair with suspicion, but he said nothing.
"We're here." Ruto announced with pride. "Hmmmmm.....what's this?" Ruto's smile vanished, and her mouth gaped open. "Whaaa.....whaaa.....?" but she knew the answer before he replied. Grinning, he held the battered replica of himself. "Pretty good likeness, for you princess. I had no idea you were such a master with a needle." Ruto buried her face in her hands. Oh why was she so careless? "Wave hi to Ruto!" Link smiled, making the doll wave to Ruto. "Gimme that!!!" howled Ruto, trying to snatch it away. Link held the doll out of reach. He was the one grinning now. "Awww c'mon Ruto, I just thought you had grown out of dolls, that's all." Ruto fell back, and stared miserably at her feet. She thought she could just curl up and die. Link handed the little doy back to her. "Sorry Ruto, I just wanted to pay you back, that's all." Ruto snatched it away, and threw it hastily on top of her wardrobe. "I just got it out to feel nostalgic, I just made it as a stoopid kid. I threw out my all toys ages ago. It fell behind my closet for years. I only just found it. " she lied, remembering something her father said to her as a child: "If you tell lies Ruto, your tongue will turn into a toad." Ruto gave a little yelp when she thought about that, and felt like twice the an idiot. Link was understandibly, looking a rather confused.

Re: My first fanfic!
Wow, all these comments! Thanks guys, this has made my day!!!
"Ruto, you know it's okay, you don't have to worry about it." He slipped his arms around her back. "Will you get off!" hissed Ruto, trying to bat him off and trying to wriggle out of his grip. Then, she smiled and put her arms around his waist. "Why the sudden change?" "I guess I didn't feel so mad anymore." "Well it is only a doll after all. You've got the real thing now." "I guess so. Even if the doll looks better." "Hmmph." "Aww, cheer up." Ruto smiled, tweaking his cheek. "After all, you are the one with the doll, not me!" Link grinned. "Do you want me to put pins in it?" "Heh. I guess not." Ruto broke away. "I feel like going out somewhere. Where do you feel like going?" She didn't even wake for a response. "Let's go to the lake! I haven't been there for ages." "Uuuuh, okay. I supose it would be nice to see it again. But I don't want to get my clothes wet again." "Aw, you're such a pretty boy. Wah wah, my clothes are wet! Boo hoo. Fine then. Let's go get the warp tunnel." "Didn't you just hear what I said?" "Loud and clear. By the time we get back, your regular clothes will probably have dried. C'mon, let's go!" She ran out exitedly, Link shrugged and followed her. Ruto was further down the passage, motioning for him to follow. "C'mon! C'mon! Let's get going!" Link saw the look on her face. "So it's the waterfall again, huh?" "That's right! I bet you can't beat this!" With that she threw herself off the side, and fell down that dizzying height. There was a tiny splash, and then she surfaced. "BEAT THAT!" she called faintly. Link took a deep breath and followed, diving straight after her. For a few seconds time stood still. The whloe world seemed to drain away to an endless, falling silence, the only feeling the air rushing past, then the ocean rushing up to meet him.... With a tremendous splash, it all returned: the massive sound of the impact, the rush of water, and then he surfaced up for air. Ruto drifted a few feet away, with an amused expression on her face. She swam over to meet him. "Not bad, not bad. Not as good as me, of course." Link gasped for air. "That takes a lot of nerve!" "Well, rest for a minute, and we can go through the warp tunnel." She bobbed in the water patiently. "Okay I'm good. Let's go." Ruto's face broke into a delighted grin. "Yeah!" She took his hand gently, and they swam together through the tunnel. There was a strange silver light, and they emerged in the sunken shrine under Lake Hylia. Not a glimmer, not a sparkle, betrayed the tunnel's arcane nature. "Wanna sit on the shore for a bit?" Ruto asked. "Sure! And we can-" "Let me guess. Fish." "That a problem." "It wouldn't be if it wasn't so boring. But hey, whatever makes you happy." Link walked away to rent some rods for them. Ruto sighed. She did like fishing, when something bit in the first ten minutes. She was not a patient person, unlike Link, so fishing bored her very quickly. She remembered the fishing games they had played as children and it always ended the same way. She would throw down her rod in disgust, and would swim down to catch a fish barehanded, ignoring Link's indignation. He would not complain so much when they would roast the fish however. They did both love roasted fish after all. A lure swayed in front of her face. Her childhood memories vanished back into her brain. "Here, I got you a good one. With bait. The guy says all the fish in the lake will smell it!" Ruto held her nose. "Too bad I have to smell it! It's the garbage parts of the animal! It couldn't even make it into a hot dog!" She turned. Link was already lying back with an expression of bliss on his face, and patiently waited for the fish to bite. Ruto turned to her rod. "You'll work if you know what's good for you!" she warned it. "If you don't, there won't be enough of you to make a toothpick!" "Ruto, why are you argueing with your fishing rod?" She turned scarlet. "Shut up Link, I am only here to please you. I have better things to do then court some tadpoles." "If you say so, Ruto." replied Link in a dreamy voice. The time passed, flowing like a whispering stream for Link, ticking agonzingly slow for Ruto. The afternoon was unbearibly hot for Ruto, and sweat dripped down her face. She glared at her lure, swaying, hardly moving. Then Link's lure began to thrash wildly, and his face lit up with joy. "I got a bite! I got a bite!" Ruto scowled. But then her bitterness melted. He looked so happy, how could she want to spoil it? Link struggled with the rod, and Ruto watched with great interest. Soon a fish was being reeled in, and Link's smile increased two fold.

Re: My first fanfic!
Great story Feline Witch! This is beautifully written—the language and syntax are excellent, and so are the descriptions; the dialogue is great and so are the more humorous and entertaining parts! I loved the part about the Link doll, and Ruto’s droll inquiry – "Do you want me to put pins in it?" Your delineation of Link and Ruto’s propinquity is marvelous; I look forward to more! Update soon!

Re: My first fanfic!
Thank you so much, that make me really, really happy! I am so happy my writing entertains so many people. I have to keep going!!!! Soon the fish was plucked, squirming from the lake. Link gazed at the fish with delight, wriggling feebly on the end of the line. It was was a catch to be proud of, it would certainly ensure a hearty supper for the two of them. Ruto's stomach rumbled, she just loved fish cooked fresh from the lake, not like the miserable specimens she had sampled in Hyrule Castle Town, salted heavily to disguise the rot setting in. She was not a gourmet, but like any zora, she knew how fish should taste. She could not |
