The Overthrow, Archive
This is a story I wrote in the Din Community Thread. Other members were posting stories they had written there, so I thought "Heck, why shouldn't I write one?". So I proceeded to write a 5 part story in the Din CT. I'm posting it here so it may shine in its completeness, and those who haven't read it have a chance to do so.
If you're not in Din, you might not "get" this story, but some characters may seem familiar.
And this story really isn't a serious story, so I don't need serious critisicm. Some is allowed, though.

The empire of ZU was ruled by a mighty god named Lee, who had defeated the god Lars in an earlier battle over the continent. Lee took a less than active rule over ZU, and used an already standing anarchy of rulers called mods to overlook his empire. These mods ruled the land and made it peaceful for all.
The continent of ZU was divided into 4 provinces-Din, Farore, Nayru, and a large metropolis called Port City. Each of the provinces had its own city. Din had Power City, Nayru had Wisdom City, Farore had Courage city, and Port City of course had Port City. Newcomers arrived in Port City and were then appointed to one of the other provinces by the mods upon request.
The provinces of Din, Farore, and Nayru were always quarreling among themselves of who was the better, and contests were even held between them. Din seemed to dominate these contests, and indeed was more populated and prosperous than any of the other provinces.
It was shortly after the takeover by Lee that Mr. Fish arrived in Port City. Mr. Fish was half-human, half-mermaid, had the ability to breath over and under water, and had patches of fishy scales on his legs. Other than those mutations he was perfectly human. Mr. Fish was at first somewat confused over this new land, but eventually got used to it and asked the mod Trico to be assigned to a province. "Go to Din" Trico said, so Mr. Fish packed up his belongings and left.
The months passed, and Mr. Fish grew to like his new home. The province had recently held a special award ceremony to recognize those in the province in need of recognition. Mr. Fish had won the "Tiroth follower" award and the "Most likely to take Tiroth's place" award.
Now Tiroth was a somewhat shady dragon with dark powers who was the master and overlooker of the Din province. The citezens were mostly unbothered by his presence, but when he did rule, he did so with an iron fist and a terrible temper. Despite this, he was duly tolerated.
After winning his awards, Mr.Fish thought "Maybe I should take Tiroth's place, maybe I should slay him and become the new ruler!". The more Mr. Fish thought about it, the better his plan seemed to work out. But one thing was clear-he was going to need help.
So Mr. Fish left his house and trudged down the main road of the province. "How are you doing, my most loyal customer?" shouted NobleCucco, a newcomer chicken who ran a sig/avy booth. "Can I get you a new avy to match your sig?". "No thanks" muttered Mr. Fish. "You sure?" said NobleCucco, "I do a better job than...the competition" he said as he gazed maliciously toward Eros's Mega-Mart of All Things Art. "I'm sure" Mr. Fish said, "Good day", and he continued down the road.
Mr. Fish then went by a huge building, but it was chained and locked up. Din HeadQuarters read the sign above the giant doors. "We shall rise again" was spraypainted in red right above the unbreakable padlock. Mr. Fish was never really part of the HQ, but he thought about joining if it started up again.
Mr. Fish then proceeded toward Power City. An old, smelly hobo named Azred Ferla was by the road holding a cardboard sign saying "Identity stolen." A mod named SuperDecimal and an actor named Puck the Trickster were leaning up against the Ruin-A-Wish Foundation building, talking excititedly about the old ReBoot shows. Mr. Fish continued to walk until he reached the tavern. He entered the tavern and scanned the room for a table.
"Over here!" said MoonPheonix, a very beautiful friend of Mr. Fish. Mr. Fish's pulsed raced a bit, for MoonPheonix was his secret crush. They were freinds, alright, but Mr. Fish always wondered if he should reveal to her his true feelings. "Hey Moon, What's up" Mr. Fish said. "Not much, hurry up and sit down, Hazz is about to speak." Then, a very important-looking Hazz mounted the tavern stage and said "Alright. Tonight, our stand up comedian, Jims, is going to give us "50 ways I am running out of ideas for 50 lists." A laugh broke out through the building. Hazz continued, "We are also going to have a Angelina Jolie with ninja skills impersonation by Jodd, poetry by Hylian Z, a concert by Doc Rock, and Dark Link is going to show us how to do 3 posts in ten seconds, and that's it. Have fun."
As Jims mounted the stage, Mr. Fish looked around the room and saw Dulcie and Dog Dog 123 sitting at a table together-a dangerous combination. Hopeless Romantic was sitting at a table by himself-as usual. Link_315 was over at the DJ table, in charge of the music and sound effects, and Hazz was working dutifully at the bar.
Jims finished rather quickly, and after Jodd had performed his somewhat strange act, he walked toward Mr. Fish and MoonPheonix's table. "Mind if I sit here?" he asked. "Not at all" said Mr. Fish.
Jodd sat down and started saying something or other about his arsenal. Mr. Fish didn't pay much attention to Jodd or Hylian Z's poetry. He was staring into MoonPheonix's distracted eyes, thinking...
"That ought to kill 'em. What do you think, Fish?" asked Jodd. "Ummm...sure, yeah." said Mr. Fish uneasily. Doc Rock took the stage after Hylain Z and started playing his guitar and singing, while Icestorm was drumming for him. After all the shows were over, Icestorm put away his drums and bought Mr. Fish's table drinks, and sat down with them.
After conversation had gone on for some time, Mr. Fish spoke up. "You know, I was thinking of, well, taking Tiroth's place. You guys think I would do well, of course." I breathless pause settled through the table. "If these drinks were actually alcoholic, I would think you drunk" Jodd said "but since they aren't, I'd like to know how you plan to achieve this." "I doubt it would be easy" replied Mr. Fish "but if I have help, I think its possible. Meet me behind the HQ building at 3:00AM this morning, and bring muffins"

Mr. Fish waited nervously for his companions behind the HQ building. "Moon, is that you?" Mr. Fish whispered as he heard a rustle. "Yeah, I'm here. And Jodd is behind me" replied MoonPheonix. Icestorm then appeared from around the corner. "Sorry I'm late. Azred stopped me and asked what I was up to. I told him he could spend the night in my house if he kept silent. He agreed" said Icestorm. "You're going to regret that when you get home" replied Jodd. Mr. Fish then spoke up, "Alright, lets get started."
"Now, first off, who thinks Tiroth should be replaced by me? Raise your hand." Icestorm and Jodd raised thier hands. MoonPheonix's hand stayed at her side. "I don't really approve of any plan that could wind up in you getting hurt, Fish" she said. "That leads us to our next question" said Mr. Fish. "How do I overthrow Tiroth without getting killed, 'cuase the old dragon certainly won't go out without a fight."
"The first thing you need is intelllegence" Icestorm replied. "You need to know Tiroth's weaknesses. Luckily, I'm the most traitorous. Hehe. I should be able to find this stuff out for you while still living up to my reputation."
"Then you need a nice weapon" interjected Jodd. "You can't kill Tiroth with your bare hands, ya know. Luckily, I have just the thing..."
"Tiroth is a dragon" interuppted MoonPheonix. "Dragons are incredibly strong brutes, and to defeat him, you yourself must train and grow stronger." Before Mr. Fish could ponder if this statement was directed toward his shabby physique, a woosh was heard and Mr. Man, a human with wings who was the local personal trainer, said "Did I hear the word 'train'?".
"We don't really need you here, Mr. Man" said Mr. Fish. "Well, I tell you what then. You let me train you, or I let Tiroth in on your whole scheme, How's that?" replied Mr. Man. "Well... I guess I have no other choice" groaned Mr. Fish. "Great" said Mr. Man, "we train tommorow, meet me at the gym, you won't regret it!"
"Well, that sucks" muttered Jodd as Mr. Man flew away. "Are you really going to train with this egotistical..." "I have no other choice" interuppted Mr. Fish. "And besides, It may turn out for the better, who knows? Lets get to bed everyone. I'll call another meeting after my "training", meawhile, Jodd and Icestorm, you get to work. Good luck, guys, and good night, Moon"

The gym was a spacious yet simple place. There was a large excercising room where Scoria, MarvelMan, and Zora Fisherman were working out and talking about the new Spider-Man plot twist in which Parker reveals his identity worldwide. There was also a small swimming pool. Mr. Fish looked in the pool and saw Liah doing her morning laps. A basketball court stood adjacent to the swimming pool where Puck the Trickster and Doc Rock were playing 1-on-1.
Mr. Fish was then led upstairs to Mr. Man's office. "Alright" said Mr. Man, in a boot-camp like fashion "We will have 4 tests. Strentgh, in which you must carry me up a flight of steps. Endurance, in which you must carry me for a mile. Speed, in which you must beat me in a race. And breathing, in which you must strengthen your lungs to last you 2 minutes underwater" Mr. Fish smiled, he knew he could beat the last challenge easy. "I don't expect you to complete these tests now" continued Mr. Man. "but when you do, then I know you'll be ready. Now lets get you started on some cardio, then we can do strength training"
As Mr. Fish followed Mr. Man onto the gym floor, Mr. Fish noticed dozens of frames littering the walls. Some of these frames contained awards Mr. Man had won, but most were just pictures of the trainer. "This is going to be pure hell" Mr. Fish thought to himself.
The weeks passed, and after 23 cramps, 15 headaches, 3 sprained ankles, 2 cases of dehydration and a partridge in a pear tree, Mr. Fish was able to pass the tests. "Congradulations, Fish" said Mr. Man "You can push yourself farther, ya know, stretch your limits a bit." "No thanks" said Mr. Fish, "I'm satisfied. Thanks for being my trainer. I feel stronger and more confident, thanks to you. I'll be back here soon"
Mr. Fish left the building wondering if he should train more, but he was pretty impatient and wanted to fight Tiroth as soon as possible. Although he had met with Jodd and Icestorm over his training period, they had never talked about the Tiroth buisness. Mr. Fish was eager to know what they had for him. He would be meeting with them and MoonPheonix tonight, then he would set up another meeting.
As Mr. Fish walked toward the tavern, he felt a strange sensation, like someone was watching him. He had felt it for the past two moths, ever since the whole Tiroth buisness had started. He glanced behind him and saw a silhouette turn the corner of an old apartment building. He rushed to see who it was, but saw nothing. He thought it might be Lone Wolf, the town snoop, or maybe worse...
Mr. Fish quickly dismissed these thoughts as his imagination, he wasn't going to let them spoil his plans. With a new sense of power and control brought about by his training, Mr. Fish rushed to the tavern to meet his friends.

Wishing to be as secretive as possible, Mr. Fish waited until Doc Rock performed his excessivly loud number to tell his friends to meet him by the Hangman's platform at 3:00AM. "And Icestorm" Mr. Fish quietly shouted "Try not to get cuaght by Azred again."
Mr. Fish tried to sleep that night, but found himself much too excited. He sat nervously and watched the clock tick, tock, tick, tock, and in no time, he was fast asleep. In his dreams, he saw Tiroth, mighty and proud and magnificent and angry, ready to devour him. He saw those glaring eyes he'd seen last night, coming nearer, and nearer, until they swallowed him completley!
Mr. Fish awoke in a sweat, "It was just a nightmare, that's all" he thought. He looked up at the clock and found it was 2:58AM. "Holy crap, I'd better go!" He exclaimed to himself, so he quickly darted out the door.
The entire walk to the platform was terrifying for Mr. Fish. He glanced about nervously for Tiroth, and was also watching for those eyes...those evil eyes. Mr. Fish saw a figure moving about the town dump, and his heart went up to his palate. He quickly realized it was only Azred Ferla scavenging for anything valuable, but he had had enough. He ran the rest of the way to the Hangman's platform.
As he approached, he saw MoonPheonix standing by the platform. "Is anyone with you?" he asked. MoonPheonix jumped, "Oh, its only you" She said, relieved. "I've been kind of scared tonight. I thought I heard someone following me, and I turn arund and see these eyes about three feet above the ground, but then they dissapeared..." Mr. Fish's stomach twisted. So he wasn't the only one who had noticed this. "It was probably just my imagination. Say, you're looking kinda buff!" Mr. Fish smiled and said "Uh, yeah. Thanks." That one compliment had made his training totally worthwhile.
"Are you guys there?" came a hushed voice from the silence. "We're here" replied Mr. Fish. Icestorm and Jodd emerged from the shadows, and Jodd wore a coal black Ninja outfit. "Nice pajamas" said Mr. Fish sarcasticlly "Were you seen?". "A ninja is never seen!" replied Jodd in a somewhat insulted manner. As Jodd came closer to Mr. Fish, Mr. Fish noticed that he pulled wheelburrow full of pointy things. Weapons, probably.
"We'll start with you, Icestorm" said Mr. Fish, glancing about uneasily "make it quick." Icestorm began. "Well, due to my cunning observation, I have found that Tiroth is practiclly invincible. He is covered from head to toe in dragon scales. I did some research, and dragon scales are supposedly harder than diamonds. You can't harm him externally, you may be able to poisin him though" "If I am to kill Tiroth" Mr Fish said, "I will fight him fairly and with honor, I do want to take his place, ya know. People don't want a coward to lead them. Is there another way?"
"There may be" continued Icestorm. "From my observations and research, I have found that dragons, including Tiroth, have no scales inside thier mouth. So if you could shove something into his upper jaw, penetrating his brain, you should be able to kill him, but his upper jaw is probably pretty strong. You'd need a javelin or a strong crossbow to penetrate it from a range, unless you plan to put your arm in his mouth, which is suicide."
"That is where I come in" said Jodd, in a somewhat muffled voice becuase of his outfit. "I have a strong crossbow" He said reaching into his wheelbarrow and darwing a large crossbow out "And there are some javelins at my house. This crossbow can be wound before battle, but after the first shot, I doubt you would have the power or time to wind it again. I also have a special treat" Jodd reached into his wheelbarrow and withdrew a sword that looked as if it was fashoined with sandstone and enamel. "This sword is made out of dragons toenail, which is practiclly the same stuff as dragon scales. With this sword, you could wound Tiroth. It would be like cutting diamonds with diamonds, so I doubt you could penatrate his skin, but you could disable him enough to get a goot shot into his mouth. The sword would be all disheveled by that time, though, which is a pity." Jodd paused. "And that's all I got."
Mr. Fish sat in silence for a while. His mission wouldn't be as easy as he'd hoped, but it was possible. "Thanks, Icestorm and Jodd" he said."I owe you guys big time. Now, I'd like to go to your house for weapons training tomorrow, Jodd" said Mr. Fish. "then I could face Tiroth the day after, if all goes well. Thanks guys, lets get back to our homes quick. Good Night. "
So Mr. Fish scurried home, his head dizzy and his body tired. He arrived home, got into bed, and sunk into his nightmares.

The training went smoothly, Mr. Fish had practiced with the sword a little bit, but nothing could really simulate hacking at a dragon with the sword, so he only learned basic handling and manuvers. Crossbow training was after that, and javilen training ended the day. They spent most of the day on javelin training, with crossbow in at a close second. Jodd stressed that when fighting Tiroth, timing would be more important than aim, and to always keep his guard.
After weapon training was over, Mr. Fish said "I think I'm going to face Tiroth tomorrow." "So soon?" Jodd replied, "Well, I guess there is not much more you can do to prepare... just get a healthy breakfast and a good night's sleep, you're going to need it. Good Luck, I guess I'll see you tomorrow morning."
The sun set and spread its orange glow across the sky as Mr. Fish walked home. Strangly enough, Mr. Fish did not experience the nagging feeling of being watched that day, but he couldn't forget what MoonPheonix had said the night before. "I wonder if we could both be paranoid" Mr. Fish thought. This was a high possibility, since most of Din was paranoid anyway.
As Mr. Fish opened the door to his house, he heard a shout of "Suprise!". MoonPheonix, Icestorm, Jodd and Mr. Man were standing by his dining table with balloons and confetti hovering around them and several large muffins displayed prominentley on the table.
"Uhh...Wow, what's this?" Mr. Fish asked in a confused manner "and how did you get here before me, Jodd?" "I ninja is quick and is never seen...and think of this as a going away party, just in case you die tomorrow." MoonPheonix elbowed Jodd, "Jodd, that's not nice. We just want to be with you before your big day. We think you're a really cool person, and we want to be with you to help you relax." "And besides" added Icestorm "we needed an excuse to eat these wonderful muffins!"
The rest of the night the five friends partied. They played games, told jokes, and held belching contests. Mr. Fish felt a sense of safety and security that night. His fears and nightmares dissipated, he knew he would have to face Tiroth tomorrow, he looked forward to it. He knew he would win, he had to.
But alas, all was not well. I skulking figure prowled the night around Mr. Fish's house, examining thier every move and word. After the party had died down and everyone returned to thier homes, the stealthy shadow dissapeared back into the darkness, satisfied with its observations...
As Mr. Fish slept, the shadows lifted. The sun revealed a cloudless day ahead. Mr. Fish awoke to the sound of sizziling bacon and baking biscuts. MoonPheonix had gotten up early to fix him breakfast. After thier hearty meal together, Mr Fish grabbed his weapons and he and MoonPheonix headed out the door.
They walked to Tiroth's cave in complete silence. They got nearer and nearer, until they could see the dragon himself happily munching on a piece of n00b outside his cave. "If you want to turn back, now's the time" whispered MoonPheonix. "No, this is something I must do. And Moon, I... I... uh... well...I hope I see you again." MoonPheonix smiled "I hope I see you again too." Mr. Fish then turned around to approach Tiroth. "I may never see her again" he thought.
MoonPheonix watched Mr. Fish walking toward Tiroth. He seemed really small compared to the tremendous dragon. As she was wondering if she should run out and drag Mr. Fish back home, she heard footsteps behind her. It was Icestorm, Jodd and Mr. Man. "Well, this is it." said Icestorm. "He doesn't stand a chance." whispered Jodd. "I think he may suprise us" replied Mr. Man "The kid's got a lot of potential."
Mr. Fish continued toward Tiroth. The dragon looked up and saw Mr. Fish approaching him. Now was the point of no return. "What do you want? And what are all the weapons for?" asked Tiroth, upset becuase of his interuppted dinner. "Uh...I'm here...to take your place. The Din people are sick and tired of your tantrums and tyranny, and I'm here to take your position from you, by persuasion, or by force!" yelled Mr. Fish, threateningly. "HA HA! My that's a good one!" said Tiroth, laughing "I thought I had closed the Truth or Dare, who dared you to do this?" "I come on my own accord" responded Mr. Fish. "HaHA" bellowed Tiroth again. "Just get going, I'm eating"
Mr. Fish was getting frustrated becuase Tiroth wasn't taking him seriously, so he darted up to the dragon and clubbed him in the chest as hard as he could with his sword. Tiroth let out a ground trembling cry, some scales had cracked, very painful for a dragon. Tiroth tried to knock away Mr. Fish with his right arm, but Mr. Fish ducked just in time and attacked Tiroth's undefended arm. Tiroth tried again with his left arm and sent Mr. fish flying back quite a bit.
Mr. Fish regained his footing quickly. He decided that it was wiser to use his distance attacks, so he sheathed his mangled sword, pulled out his crossbow and aimed. Tiroth lunged toward him, and opened his mouth to let out a gaping roar. This was the perfect time to strike. Mr. Fish released the arrow, it was a perfect shot, but just before the arrow entered Tiroth's mouth, Tiroth clampped down his jaws and splintered the arrow into millions of pieces. Tiroth then let out a gust of fire, but Mr. Fish avoided it-barely.
Mr. Fish threw aside his crossbow. Now he had to try his luck with the four javilens he carried. He missed three times, the fourth was a great throw, but Tiroth incinerated it in midair.Mr. Fish let out a sigh, the only way to kill him now was with the sword, so Mr. Fish ran up and charged the dragon.
The battle from then on was repetitve. Mr. Fish would approach Tiroth and hack at his legs until he was knocked back by Tiroth's might tail or limbs, and then Mr. Fish would try avoid the heavy fire afterwards, usually with half-sucess. Finally Mr. Fish managed to totally dislodge scales from Tiroth's legs, purple ooze was now flowing from Tiroth's wounds. Tiroth collapsed to the ground, defeated.
Mr. Fish was now bruised and burned, and certainly not happy. His sword was now broken, chipped and useless. So he took a broken javelin to pry open Tiroth's jaws, then picked up another stray javelin to shove into Tiroth's brain. "Now's the time" he thought "Now is the moment I finally kill Tiroth!"
But he couldn't.
He stared into the dragon's weary eyes and thought about all the fun times he had had in the past. He remembered talking lovingly to Tiroth, who really wasn't very receptive anyway, but there still was a bond, nonetheless. "Tiroth had never been a bad mod", thought Mr. Fish. "And what if the other's don't accept me? Maybe this is a bad idea. I...I..." Mr. Fish dropped his javelin, and uneasily walked away.
Tiroth saw Mr. Fish walking away, defenseless. Now was his time. He musttered up his strentgh and was ready to incinerate Mr. Fish once and for all, when a figure lept out of the bushes into Tiroth's path and yelled "Stop!'" in a rather commanding voice.
Mr. Fish spun around to see Tiroth stopped dead in his tracks by..."Shetani?", Mr. Fish gasped. Shetani was a sleek, beautiful lioness, and she was a Super-mod, more powerful than Mr. Fish and Tiroth could ever hope to be combined. Tiroth was no match for her. She seemed to have dissappeared from ZU for the past months, but could sometimes be seen sneaking about the wild.
"You will not harm this boy, ever!" said Shetani to Tiroth. "And now, Mr. Fish, me and you are going to go for a walk! You finish your meal Tiroth, and quit crying about those wounds!" Mr. Fish stared in disbelief at Shetani's appraoching figure. "You have a lot of nerve to suddenly attack Tiroth like that." said Shetani. Mr. Fish cleared his throat and muttered "I'm so sorry, I..." "No need to be sorry, Fish" said Shetani, smiling "That surly dragon could use an ass-whoopin every once in a while...I could have stopped your plan early if I wanted to"
"So, that means... you're the one that has been stalking me and Moon for the last month!" exclaimed Mr. Fish. Shetani nodded her head. "Well, if you knew my plan, why didn't you stop it earlier?" asked Mr. Fish. "I wanted to give you your chance to fight Tiroth" responded Shetani "I seriously thought you were going to lose, but I wanted you to prove to yourself how weak you were, so you wouldn't pull stupid stuff like this again. My plan was to stop Tiroth right before he killed you, but I didn't know what to think when you were about to kill him." Shetani chuckled. "I'm glad you didn't, and I understand why you didn't. We didn't appoint Tiroth with no good reason, but you know that."
Mr. Fish and Shetani continued down the path for a while in silence. "There's your friends" said Shetani as MoonPheonix, Icestorm, Mr. Man and Jodd came into view "I'm going now, and don't worry about Tiroth, there's no way he'll hurt you. Bye now." Then Shetani pounced away back into the wilderneness.
"What happened? Are you alright?" asked MoonPheonix. Mr. Fish didn't know what to say.He certainly didn't feel alright, but he Did not win, he did not lose. All in all, it had turned out better than he could have ever expected.
