What would you do? What is your dream movie?

----

For me, it would be a trilogy of Avatar: The Last Airbender done the right way.

I would make it an animated movie with a realistic art style. A cross between live action and animation, if you will. I would use motion capture to fully copy the actor's facial movements and gestures, and then edit them with computers to make them look like a 2d animation and add in real shadows. I think this would allow for an easier and more enticing alternative to full blown 3d CGI since I wouldn't need to put in every detail for insignificant objects. During the day I would have the color palette be colorful and vibrant, and at night it would be dark and gritty, similar to Akira.

I would have all of the inhabitants of the Earth be of all races, but I would make sure that the main characters are of color. Aang would have darker skin than in the cartoon, like a midrange tan since the majority of Tibetan monks have dark skin. Katara and Sokka would be obviously Inuit, but could easily be played by anyone that looks like they are of Native American, Hispanic, or Asian descent. They would also retain their dark skin, just like in the show. Zuko would have light skin, again, just like in the show, but would need to be Asian. Casting almost all Asian main cast members would be for helping the Asian acting community get a chance at large role in a film, not just for sheer accuracy. The actual skin tone of the actors won't matter much, since that can be altered in the editing. They would still have to be of the right ethnicity, or at least close to it.

I would remove all kiddy crap from the films and restrict humor for pure comic relief. For example, no cabbage salseman, no foamy mouth guy, et cetera. Sokka would not do anything idiotic like he did quite often in the second and third seasons. Instead I would keep his character as the sarcastic, intelligent member of the Gaang who always comes up with the plan. In the first movie, he would still have his sexist and debby downer attitude, but overtime (especially after meeting Yue and watching her die) he would mature and remove his prejudices. In the second and third films, this development would constantly improve until the climax of the third when he becomes a hardened, battle worn warrior.

Aang would not change very much, but his random fun time penguin sledding shenanigans would be toned down a bit. He would basically be a happy, carefree, but very secretive child, which would lead to his confession to Katara about him running away from the air temple. He would slowly begin to lose his happiness as he sees more and more of the suffering in the world, and will almost always feel that it is his fault. By the time they lose Appa he becomes very moody, heartbroken, and irrational. This would make his decision between Katara and the Avatar state even harder, due to his broken mind. He finally becomes as wise and disciplined as the Dalai Lama himself halfway through the third film.

Mai and Ty-lee would be a bit different. Mai would be be combined with Jin's character (the chick that Zuko goes on a date with in Ba Sing Se). So she would be less of a ***** and more of a sarcastic, funny, and lovingly *****y character. Ty-lee would be retain the same personality, but a bit less bubbly and a lot less valley girl.

Ozai would have more of a reason for being evil than just for the sake of being evil. Have some more background to the Ursa and Ozai saga, and have that as part of the motivation. Similar to the Anakin and Padme tragedy in Star Wars only a lot more believable and conflicting. Throw in some Titus Andronicus insanity and you have your Ozai.

After that all of the characters would remain the same.

I would show more of the devastation the war has caused, be less brief about the genocide of the Airbenders, and not be afraid to show death. In fact, I would let the elements be more dangerous, like showing blood and letting you hear bones being crushed by earthbenders, etc.

I would aim for a PG-13 rating, and allow for some foul language, since it's very common in the world.

For the score I would hire Clinton Shorter. Reason? Tell me this isn't bad ass and full of Avatar-esque sounds, only at a slower pace (which are around 62 seconds in):

I just got back from watching Michael Jackson's This Is It. I'm a bit of a MJ junkie, so I really, really enjoyed it. It was awesome seeing him at work with his dance routines and how hands-on he was with the production of his concert/music. Some of the most emotional parts for me was actually seeing how his music and dancing inspired so many young people. Gawd, he's a perfectionist with his music. I loved that.

The theatre I was in was crazy, too, like there were kids jumping all over the place, singing, people dancing the Beat It routine and lotsa applauding. Right at the opening, it says it's for the fans and, well, I couldn't agree more.

Downside; not all my favourite songs were shown argh, and needed more moonwalking.

Note: Guys, I wanna keep this discussion to just the movie, please. None of this let's-talk-about-his-personal-life shiznits. If you wanna ♥♥♥♥♥ about his court cases or whatever, go make a thread about it somewhere and leave it there. Just discussion on the movie, thanks.

I just recently found out that Disney is making a live action movie roughly based on the plot of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. They have cast Jake Gyllenhaal(sp?) of Donnie Darko and The Day After Tomorrow as Dastan, and Gemma Arterton of Quantum of Solace as Tamina.
No trailer has been released yet but the images I saw looked pretty good. I also read an early version of the script and it was wittily funny, epic, and had that arabic folklore feel to it. The ending was gripping and there was a real chemistry between Tamina and Dastan. After reading the script, I really feel that Jake Gyllenhaal is an excellent choice for the prince; he has just the right sense of humor and likeability that Dastan conveys in the script.
What are you guys' feelings or thoughts about the movie?

EDIT: Here is the link to the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxAM_XMZBd8

Well..hmmm... I saw the trailer for this a while back and nearly facepalmed. It looked pretty bad. But, with all the movies out right now, it seemed the most promising. (yeah thats saying something) I wanted to see Where The Wild Things Are but i decided against it due to the fact it's said that movie is really depressing. I was looking for something lighthearted so Paranormal Activity was out. (Shakey cameras and night vision? Ehh, i'll watch Ghost Hunters.)

So i saw Vampire's Assistant instead. How bad was it? Pretty bad but thing is, it was cheesy in a good way. It was lighthearted as i figured it would be, and the effects were bad and campy. There is some sort of underlying sense of forboding (even mentioned by Salma Hayek's character who uses the word "Forboding") but most of the delivery was in a cheesy comedy vain. It seems this movie did this on purpose. John C Reilly plays a vampire from a freak show. His makeup is so cheesy but it envokes that Fright Night-esque sort of camp that just makes you smile. Plus its funny. This movie is probably Your Mileage May Vary but i enjoyed the hell out of it for some reason.

I am planning to make a POTC boardgame, and I have run into a few bumps.

This game is similar the Risk, but it's not exacty the same. The board is (of course) th Caribbean, and the two teams are the Pirates and the East India Trading company. The object of the game is to capture all of the Ports on the board, and destroy the enemies fleet. Battles are very similr to Risk.

Each team gets 10 ships, which can be used for combat, and getting your men from one island to another, or from port to port. There is an extr ship, the Flying Dutchman, which starts off on the EITC team, and they get the 'Dead Man's Chest' token, whch they must place on the board. While they own the token, Davy Jones is on their team, but if the Pirates take control of the chest, the pirates gain the extra ship.

There are also cards that each team gets throughout the card. They either Hinder the enemy, or give advantages to themselves. Each team gets teir own deck. In each deck, there are also special green cards that they can only use while The Flying Dutchman is in their command.

An example card:

Picture
Quote
What the Card does

eg.
<Picture of Mistriss Chang>
"This is a fortress"
You maynot attack this port on this turn.

An example of a green card is that the player gets to summon he Kracken.

My Problems, that POTC movie buffs might be able to hlp with:
*I want to incorperate the 9 pieces of 8 into he game, but I'm not sure how, any ideas?
*I can't find a source that shows me where the ports in the movies are. only know the locations of Port Royal and Tortuga.

Also, if you have any ideas for suitable cards, feel free to share them here.

Jim here. Here is a strong rumor that should whet your appetites! (or sour them if you have had too much of the franchise). I have been hearing rumblings... extremely quiet at first, but now heating up significantly and from a trusted source - that George Lucas is preparing to unleash another STAR WARS trilogy upon us, this time in stereoscopic 3D. This is NOT the TV series, these are brand spankin' new 3D STAR WARS movies.

Yes, the pending 2D to 3D conversions of his six existing STAR WARS properties are still a go as 3D theaters are approaching 3000 (5000 is the number Lucas wants). No word on when this work will be completed.

But here is the shocker: Lucas will be producing and NOT directing these new episodes apparently! Could Steven Spielberg be tapped to direct a STAR WARS movie after all? Yes according to a trusted source of mine! Further, Francis Ford Coppola was mentioned too as a possible director for a future film!

A lot depends on the success of AVATAR this winter - if it takes off like everyone is expecting it to, then you will most likely see three additional STAR WARS movies added.

What an interesting competitive box office landscape that would make over the next 6 to 10 years! James Cameron's AVATAR world vs. George Lucas' STAR WARS world. I could see Lucas getting a little jealous over a successful launch of AVATAR - jealous because it is a fully articulated universe, like his. And if he doesn't act on it - his franchise may well be relegated to a back seat as potentially the records will start falling to Pandora. Heck STAR WARS is still not 3D yet and what better way to try to maintain a lock on bragging rights than to launch into three more in native stereoscopic 3D.

How seriously should you consider these rumors? Well it is coming from a source that SHOULD KNOW. This source is absolutely connected. So odds are it is seriously being talked about at Lucasfilm. Right now. Will it happen? AVATAR will have to hit and hit big and then all the stars have to align properly - all I can do is pass on the info.

Personally I WANT this to happen dearly. I REALLY want to see what the STAR WARS universe looks like in Spielberg's hands *AND* in stereoscopic 3D. You would too, wouldn't you? :-)
