e) a bit of b) and c)

I've been playing guitar for about 5 years and usually just do is a) just tap my foot to the beat whilst playing sat down I have tried mentall thinking 1, 2 , 3, 4 but I struggle to do this when just improvising . With set licks I can count the subdivisions pretty well when its not too complicated but when improvising counting 1,2,3,4 and subdivisions just goes out of the window and I can lose track of where I am with the band when its more frenetic (we've just started rehearsing). Personally I believe I should concentrated more on the drummer whilst playing should I just practice being more aware of the drummer, as I find it very easy to get lost in my own little world whilst playing!
What's other guitarists/musiscians opinions/thoughts on this, bearing in mind this is focused on keeping time with the drummer.

After over a month of submissions and two or three days of hardcore compiling (during which tears were shed and blood was spilled), the final, definitive list of the favourite albums of Zelda Universe as determined by the members is complete!

At the end of the day there were a grand total of 464 unique albums submitted. Over 85 of those received more than one nomination, but at the end of the day I found it easiest to narrow the list down to fifty. Because of numerous ties, there are actually only 48 rankings, but there are a total of 50 albums on the list.

Overall I am pleased with how this entire thing turned out. Obviously getting more participation would be a plus, but in a lot of ways that can't be helped. Now that it is all over, however, it is time to think about what should come next. I had a lot of fun doing this, and would like to continue working on other projects like it. My personal preference would be to do a 'Favourites of 2009' followed closely by (or overlapping with) a 'Favourites of the 2000s.' But it isn't all about me, so I'd love to hear what you'd like to see come next out of a project like this. Also, any suggestions or ideas on how to improve or otherwise change the proceedings are more than welcome.

So here it is, without any further delays, the final list. It is a pretty good mix of old and new. There are some predictable classics on there, but there are also some surprises. Feel free to comment. Also, I still have the complete list, so if you are interested in knowing where a particular favourite fell in the grand scheme of things, or if you'd like to know some other interested statistic (what era was most represented, etc) ask away.

The list will be laid out thusly:
Rank#. Artist - Album Year (total points)

1.	The Beatles - Abbey Road	1969	(138)

So like, i remember seeing these guy's (first) record in the Subpop Mega Mart in Seattle 10 years ago. (that store doesnt exist anymore) They were then, a little indie band from Bellingham, Washington. I remember hearing a few of their songs and thinking "yeah they arent too bad." And then i kinda forgot about them. I had no idea that ten years later, they would sell half a million copies of their latest record and even end up on a major movie soundtrack. Kind of a mindblower really. I heard one of their songs (newest one) today and it was ok.

What do you guys think?

When bands record music, they generally record each instrument and vocals into separate channels, and then the end result is them being mixed together, right? I'm not having much luck myself finding a true good way beyond getting access to master recordings. I'm interested in hearing only one channel in some songs to try and get a better idea of the sound going on, and I was hoping there would be a way to rip out each channel and be able to listen to only one. Is there an easy way to go about this? Ideally there would be a convenient program out there that could do this to a song in a short amount of time. If anyone has anything to share on this, it would be appreciated.

To make a discussion out of this, has anyone else been interested/has listened to individual channels? A lot of times I find that an instrument is a little difficult to hear at times, mostly when the focus is somewhere else.

There's been a lot of White Stripes talk recently, with the Favorite Albums thread, and several premature Best Albums Of The Decade lists appearing, and I am really wondering, what the heck do people see in White Blood Cells? I know it was their breakout album, and has two of their biggest hits, with Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground and Fell In Love With A Girl, but I truly, honestly, do not see how this album can be compared to his other (mostly later) works and still be called 'best'.

I can see it being called better than their self-titled debut, which is basically just a punkish garage rock balls-to-the-wall kind of deal (which I love, but that's my personal preference, I know it's not anything musically impressive), and De Stijl is at its core a rockier White Blood Cells, but when Elephant came out, I was absolutely blown away by the evolution of Jack White's talents. All of a sudden, he was playing blistering guitar solos, pumping up the blues, and making you hang off every word he forced out of his throat into your mind.

Then Get Behind Me Satan comes out, basically an experimental album where several different instruments and sounds appear, and falls flat on its face, both musically and critically. However, it paved the way for my favorite album, Icky Thump, to combine the interesting instruments (trumpets and bagpipes present along with a few others), with the blistering guitar screaming at your face.

My question is, how can you take White Blood Cells, which does not play into Jack White's signature bluesy guitar style at all, and totally lacks the speed and in-your-face-ness (for lack of a term that makes sense) and call it better than such masterpieces of musical work?

If it were me, I would choose the Les Paul. It seems to be the more iconic and more famous guitar, and Slash is my all time favorite guitarist. And I like the look of the Les Paul, and the various sounds produced by all the model variations of this guitar. But your opinion matters too. Which do you choose?

So...they're coming out with a new album in a few days, and honestly, after hearing their new single, I had some hopes. Maybe not great hopes, but I was hoping maybe it'd be a little modest, or would at least keep a recurring sound, like the Green Album had. However, I just discovered this new song that's on the album:

Can't Stop Partying - Weezer featuring Lil' Wayne

...well...see you Weezer, you're no longer my favorite band. Weezy and Weezer do not belong together. This song was specially designed to be on the radio, and shows that Weezer just want to make money and don't care about their fans. 311 is officially my favorite band now. I'm not so much torn up, just disappointed. I mean, I knew the new album wouldn't be any good (especially with only a 16 month gap since Red Album, which sucked.) but I never knew they would go THIS low. I still love Weezer, but it's more of a "respect because they used to be good" thing rather than an "I enjoy listening to them" kind of thing. Thoughts?

I was walking down the street
When out the corner of my eye,
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me.
She said I never seen a man,
Who looks so all alone,
Could you use a little company?
If you could pay the right price,
Your evening will be nice,
Or you can go and send me on my way,
I said you're such a sweet young thing,
Why'd you do this to yourself?
She looked at me and this is what she said.

Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees,
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back
Though you know I wish I could,
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.

Not even 15 minutes later,
I'm still walking down the street,
When I saw the shadow of a man creep out of sight,
And then he swept up from behind,
Put a gun up to my head,
He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight,
He said give me all you've got,
I want your money not your life,
If you try to make a move I wont think twice,
I told him you can have my cash,
But first you know I've got to ask,
What made you want to live this kind of life?

He said there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees,
I got bills to pay
I got mouths to feed
Ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back
Though you know I wish I could
Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.

Now a couple hours past,
And I was sitting in my house,
The day was winding down and coming to an end,
So I turned on the TV,
And flipped it over to the news,
And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend,
I saw a preacher man in cuffs
Taking money from the church,
He stuffed his bank account with righteous dollar bills
But even still I can't say much
Because I know were all the same,
Oh yes we all seek out to satisfy those thrills.

You know there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees,
We got bills to pay
We got mouths to feed
Ain't nothing in this world for free.
Oh no
We can't slow down,
We can't hold back
Though you know we wish we could.
You know there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good.

Now, I might be taking a shot in the dark here, but has anyone here ever listen to these guys? Chances are, unless you listen to a lot of Celtic music like me, you probably haven't. However, I think they are probably the most creative idea for band in years. As their name implies, the type of music they make is a mixture of Tribal African, Traditional Irish, and Modern Electronic. When you first here that, it makes as much sense as pineapples on pizza. Those distinct genres of music wouldn't seem like they would complement each other very well. Yet just like pineapples on pizza, it is surprising how good it actually is.

Now they haven't produced any music in almost 5 years, but nothing gets me in a good mood like these guys.

Aside from the core members of the band, they have produced music with plenty of other big names in music, or at least in the Celtic spectrum of the music world. Including Sinéad O'Connor.
