I decided not to after a while and just left the fragrance there. Last night, though, I thought it'd be a good idea to spray some on my bed. Damn! It was so nice. I fell on the bed, and it was just so good. I fell asleep, and woke up feeling like I had sex with a beautiful woman. :) You guys have to try this out. It was so soothing, I couldn't resist falling asleep that very instant.

So I was on my bike riding home from Delta college and about half home there is this white kid, looked to be a freshman/sophmore in high school, and he was ridding in the opposite direction as me. As we are about to move pass each other he looks at me and says "Eastside Nigga". As I passed him I started to laugh a bit and started thinking if the fine people of ZU have ever had something like this happen to them. Have you ever been out and about and someone you don't know just says something completely random to you?

Note that despite the disclaimers, this author seems somewhat biased. Nevertheless, the main point of the article still stands.

IBM is discontinuing the Cell chip line of products. A successor to the current PowerXCell-8i chip will not be brought to market, the company's Vice President of Deep Computing, David Turek, told the German IT news site Heise.

Turek did note that the Cell design was not dead and would in parts be implemented across IBM's various other chip designs. The future, though, belongs to hybrid designs and heterogenous multiprocessing, Turek said.

The ramifications for a possible successor to the PlayStation3, which contains the Cell chip, could be significant. Its architecture can no longer be Cell-based, which would entail the following: Firstly, backwards compatibility to the PS3 would no longer be possible on a hardware basis. It would have to be emulated, which is always the worse option. And, secondly, Sony could no longer look forward to a relatively cheap research and development budget for the PS4.

Over the past two years, various reports have sprung up that Sony was very much considering a Cell-based chip for the PS4.

The plan to use variants of Cell in future PlayStation iterations was always in place, explains [Impress Watch technology writer Hiroshige Goto], which is why Sony invested so heavily in the chipset. However, while the use of the Cell in the PS4 may seem like Sony just sticking with its original plan, the real reason could be that the company in its current form doesn't have the reserves to create another chipset and build all the requisite development tools above it.

Going with Cell has the benefits of keeping production costs down for the PS4 and also allowing cutting game development costs due to a consistent architecture. Sony would also be able to include a smaller chip size from the start, potentially reducing the system's retail price.

Of course, IBM would not discontinue a chip line if Sony was still interested in it. So we can safely assume that Sony changed its mind. But why? A Cell-based solution would have had many advantages for the company, as noted above. One possible explanation would be that Sony has cancelled its plans for another PlayStation and will be leaving the home console market. Analysts discussed this option years ago.

And while the slimmer version and price cut have helped the console gain some market share, the price cut is costing Sony dearly. The Washington Post reported that Sony is further away from profitability than previously thought.

Sony (...) pushed back its target for an operating profit margin of 5 percent to March 2013. Chief Executive Howard Stringer had originally set the target in 2005 for the financial year to March 2008, but plans for recovery were waylaid by the economic slowdown.

In my mind, withdrawing from the home console market altogether is a real possibility. And IBM discontinuing the Cell chip line may be the first indicator of such a move.

EDIT I welcome all people from NeoGAF to read up on the exclusive stories I broke. I understand that some of you people may be suspicious of this blog's title but I can assure you that I am an impartial games journalist (have been for ten years) and work for a German television show focussing on games and technology.

What a whole lot of reaching.

It's quite possible indeed that PS4 won't be Cell-based but saying it CAN'T be cell based is quite another matter. IBM not producing a 32-spe cell chip as per their previous roadmap says nothing about Sony doing or not doing so.

Continuing from this that Sony could pull out of home hardware altogether, coupled with your blog's url...and...well...

So wow. This is interesting. There goes the cheap PS4, but at the same time, Sony will finally be able to a more Intel-like processor. Honestly, I don't even know what IBM is doing in the processor business anymore these days with PPC devices seemingly dead (so servers? Super computers?).

We'll see how this goes.

So, I just got my newest issue of Game Informer today, and its the 200th issue, so it was a kind of special issue. Naturally, they did a list of the top 200 video games of all time. Usually, I just get annoyed with these because all of them (on any magazine or website) have the same games in the same spots, so I really don't see the point in them. So, I fliped to the number one spot, 100% sure of what game I was going to see there, and what do you know?! It wasn't Ocarina of Time! It was the original Zelda instead! This is actually the first time I didn't see Ocarina of Time number one on a list like this. Oh, and it wasn't in the top ten at all-it was number 20.

I'm just glad that a widely trusted, popular source like Game Informer broke the mold of not putting OoT number one, since I truly don't think it belongs there. I don't hate the game, of course, but I think other Zeldas are better. (Although I got to say, the original shouldn't have been above it and OoT at least belonged in the top ten.)

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? Agree, disagree, or don't really care? I know these types of lists don't really mean anything, since they're made from opinions, but the fact that OoT wasn't one truly shocked me.

By the way, in case you wanted to know, ALTTP came in at number 12, LA at number 61, MM number 63, TP at 90, and WW at 94.

Discuss!

Sorry for the flood of new news. Eiji Aonuma is killing me with new info every few hours. Recently he was talking about ST having wifi. When he's not busy the director to ST helps him fight against the DIRECTOR to the new Wii Zelda over ST's wifi battles. Eiji brags about beating the new director for once. Source.

But more importantly. Eiji Aonuma's Mr. Producer now. Who the heck is the big ole' main director to this new Zelda game? :waggle: I'm not so knowledgable about the dev team and I'm not sure if anyone here is...but a new director means a lot doesn't it? Miyamoto is probably just the supervisor now. But as far as I know producers just make sure everything is working out right while the director is the one with the creativity...correct me if I'm wrong.

Discuss. Oh, and ST being online is confirmed. =D

With all the recent hoopla over the developers having a grand plan (or not), their quotes being meaningful (or NOT), and their dodgeball exploits on the weekends (and casual Friday), I decided to come up with a little experiment:

If we ignore everything the creators have said about the timeline, as well as "developer intent," and YOU were in absolute control of what the games mean, what would your timeline be?

This means you can have a linear timeline if you so desire, you can put as many games as you want between "game X" and "game Y" (as "game Y" is no longer rigidly defined as "100 years after game X"), and OoT could be closer to the tail end of the timeline (as who's to say it ever had to be first?).

Feel free to omit games as well, just for chips and wiggles, but justify why you did not include them. Also explain your timeline from start to finish.

My timeline would probably go something like this:

TMC-OoT/FS/FSA/MM-ALttP/OoS/OoA/LA-TP-LoZ/AoL-TWW/PH-ST

1) Linear timeline
Before I had ever played any of the games outside of OoT and MM, my first impression from OoT's ending was that it basically "reset" everything that happened in what we know as the Adult timeline. Zelda's decision to send Link back to the past was designed to prevent everything from ever happening. This was, again, before I'd heard of the Imprisoning War or the split timeline, and so I had no real understanding that OoT would necessarily carry over to the rest of the series. For nostalgia's sake, I'm going to use this old belief for this timeline. Adult OoT never happens; but you'll see how OoT is important to the timeline coming up...

2) Early placement of FS series
Again, my earliest impression of FSA was that its Ganondorf was actually Ganondorf from OoT, but that because of the different story progression, FSA consisted of the "alternate" events occurring on the Child timeline. I'm going to use that belief for this timeline. After returning to the past, Link helps Zelda deal with Hyrule's evils before realizing that Ganondorf still poses a threat to their kingdom. He helps Zelda seal Ganon away, and then, having saved Hyrule again from evil, goes to find Navi.

3) ALttP arc
ALttP's placement is pretty self-explanatory - it follows-up Ganon's sealing in FSA. How he got the Triforce is admittedly difficult to say, but that's true wherever you place ALttP, given that he didn't get it in any of the games where he was sealed. OoS/OoA seem like obvious interquels between ALttP and LA, and Link's Triforce mark seems to represent his heroic deeds+Triforce affinity due to ALttP.

4) Late-placed TP, LoZ/AoL, and TWW arcs
TP says that Ganondorf had already "descended and been reborn in this world," so it seems he had been killed before, but revived with Zant's help. Being now reunited and free of a master, the Triforce yet again seeks out chosen wielders as it did in OoT. Stuff happens, Ganon is killed, and the Triforce is safe... for now. LoZ/AoL happen after; TWW happens as the penultimate final battle for Hyrule between Link and Ganon. The "Hero of Time" remembered in this fight is simply the many heroes appearing over time.

So, I got on the topic of Fanta flavors with some MSN friends today and thought, hmm, what is ZU's favorite Fanta flavor?

Fanta has like a jillion different flavors (Google it if you don't believe me), but we'll go with the most well known and basic ones. Orange, yellow, green, cherry, strawberry, grape, and blue.

I don't think all of them got fruit names as flavors either though, so yeah, that's why I'm listing some as colors. xP

My favs are blue and grape. Sadly, blue seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth. I'm the only one I know who got the pleasure of drinking it when it was still being sold. Grape is around though.

Did Texas ban all marriages?

LOL. My baby is a bastard child even with the marriage license, wedding, and all the other paperwork I filed.

In an effort to ban gay marriages, it seems my home state has effectively banned any and all marriages. I did not vote for this at all (supporter of hetero and gay marriages).

AUSTIN — Texans: Are you really married?

Maybe not.

Barbara Ann Radnofsky, a Houston lawyer and Democratic candidate for attorney general, says that a 22-word clause in a 2005 constitutional amendment designed to ban gay marriages erroneously endangers the legal status of all marriages in the state.

The amendment, approved by the Legislature and overwhelmingly ratified by voters, declares that "marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman." But the troublemaking phrase, as Radnofsky sees it, is Subsection B, which declares:

"This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

Architects of the amendment included the clause to ban same-sex civil unions and domestic partnerships. But Radnofsky, who was a member of the powerhouse Vinson & Elkins law firm in Houston for 27 years until retiring in 2006, says the wording of Subsection B effectively "eliminates marriage in Texas," including common-law marriages.

She calls it a "massive mistake" and blames the current attorney general, Republican Greg Abbott, for allowing the language to become part of the Texas Constitution. Radnofsky called on Abbott to acknowledge the wording as an error and consider an apology. She also said that another constitutional amendment may be necessary to reverse the problem.

"You do not have to have a fancy law degree to read this and understand what it plainly says," said Radnofsky, who will be at Texas Christian University today as part of a five-city tour to kick off her campaign.

'Entirely constitutional’

Abbott spokesman Jerry Strickland said the attorney general stands behind the 4-year-old amendment.

"The Texas Constitution and the marriage statute are entirely constitutional," Strickland said without commenting further on Radnofsky’s statements. "We will continue to defend both in court."

A conservative leader whose organization helped draft the amendment dismissed Radnofsky’s position, saying it was similar to scare tactics opponents unsuccessfully used against the proposal in 2005.

"It’s a silly argument," said Kelly Shackelford, president of the Liberty Legal Institute in Plano. Any lawsuit based on the wording of Subsection B, he said, would have "about one chance in a trillion" of being successful.

Shackelford said the clause was designed to be broad enough to prevent the creation of domestic partnerships, civil unions or other arrangements that would give same-sex couples many of the benefits of marriage.

Radnofsky acknowledged that the clause is not likely to result in an overnight dismantling of marriages in Texas. But she said the wording opens the door to legal claims involving spousal rights, insurance claims, inheritance and a host other marriage-related issues.

"This breeds unneeded arguments, lawsuits and expense which could have been avoided by good lawyering," Radnofsky said. "Yes, I believe the clear language of B bans all marriages, and this is indeed a huge mistake."

In October, Dallas District Judge Tena Callahan ruled that the same-sex-marriage ban is unconstitutional because it stands in the way of gay divorce. Abbott is appealing the ruling, which came in a divorce petition involving two men who were married in Massachusetts in 2006.

Massive error?

Radnofsky, the Democratic nominee in the Senate race against Kay Bailey Hutchison in 2006, said she voted against the amendment but didn’t realize the legal implications until she began poring over the Texas Constitution to prepare for the attorney general’s race. She said she holds Abbott and his office responsible for not catching an "error of massive proportions."

"Whoever vetted the language in B must have been asleep at the wheel," she said.

Abbott, a former state Supreme Court justice who was elected attorney general in 2002, has not indicated whether he will seek re-election and is known to be interested in running for lieutenant governor. Ted Cruz, who served as solicitor general under Abbott, is running for attorney general in the Republican primary.
