MDK's Notebook

MDK's Bombers Notebook

Welcome to my Bombers Notebook! Here you can find a record of all my endeavours as a Bomber, and possibly what I aim to do next. Watch this space - I'll be updating as nature runs its course.

About the Author

My name is MDK. Stick around and I may tell you what that stands for one day.
I'm Irish by birth, but I have lived in Kenya since the age of five. My hobbies include fantasy-gaming, daydreaming, drawing, and my new found love, fencing. I'm currently in university in Dublin, studying English and Classics. I have no idea where I want to go from here.

I've been theorising pretty much since I joined up here at ZU, though I don't quite remember if that's specifically my reason for joining up. As a theorist, I am very open-minded. Since the beginning, I've tried to keep my theories limited to the evidence provided by the games themselves. I made my debut with my Split Timeline theory, and it was the best one around, if I do say so myself, until someone poked a very big hole in it that pretty much sunk it with a single blow - a very decisive moment in my theorist history. I took a break from theorising for a while, and it was not until I joined the infamous Linearist group, the UWM, as a Hylian Knight, that I picked it up again. Around this time, I began creating my own independent theories unrelated to the Timeline, while at the same time debating with the Wise Men over the mechanics of the Timeline, from which I could only have benefitted.

During my time in the Hylian Knights, I have done my best to level the field between the once-zealous Wise Men and their then enemies, those who believed in the Split Timeline. While I did believe the UWM's Linear Timeline to be the best one around, I still sympathised with the Splitists, having been one myself originally. The last year or so has been a colourful one indeed, and the Timeline here at ZU has seen a vast amount of change. The UWM have long since abandoned their abusive single-mindedness, save sadly for their founder and former leader, my surprising elevation to Chief Knight, the putting to an end of the Splitist-Linearist debate by Eiji Aonuma himself - the Splitists won (and there was much rejoicing!) - and now the founding of the Bombers by Leminnes, and that's pretty much where we stand now!

The Timeline is merely one small dot on the Bombers' radar. I hope to see great things spring from the freshly sown seeds, and I will do all I can to ensure that our labours bear fruit!

Articles
  • The Skull Kid's Identity

This was the article that I entered in the Bombers Contest, which I can happily say earned me status as one of the ten founding members. It is also the most original theory I have ever conceived, and I am very proud of it. In a nutshell, this article aims to reveal the Skull Kid's original identity (the person he was before he became a Skull Kid) using evidence collected from OOT and MM, the games that gave birth to his character.

  • Legend

Admittedy, this isn't my best effort, but given the general hype that is apparently attached to the subject, and given the fact that I had finally seen the film, I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

  • The Skull Kid's Identity

Now I'm even more proud of this article - not only is it my first front page article, it's the first Bombers article to make the front page! I never saw it coming!

Back from Carrickfergus. What a weekend! Fenced both Foil and Sabre on the battlements of a Medieval era castle! So, now that all my travels are over for the time being, I shall get on to my site content ASAP. Watch this space.

    Omigoshupdate!

Sorry I've been out so long, guys, and sorry I haven't gotten much work done Bombers-wise. Lots of stuff to sift through unfortunately, but at last I am equipped to take on the task! I've moved into my apartment, I've gotten myself a job, and I have a broadband connection in my flat, so now I have all the resources I need. Expect the first few items in the next few days or so. Probably won't be before the weekend, as I'll be heading up to Northern Ireland tomorrow evening for a weekend-long fencing tournament. I was in London last weekend for the same reason, and I did surprisingly well in Sabre given my limited experience. Anyway, will get right on it when I've gotten back on Sunday. Later.

I did it... I beat Twinrova and Ganon using a Wooden Sword and a Cursed Ring!!! I had half a Heart Container left, but I landed the final blow. So it's doable guys! I find this fight to be very tough due to the game engine, especially since it allows Link to take consecutive hits, racking up the damage he can take. If this fight was played out on ALTTP's engine, I would say that the Shadow Link battle would probably be more difficult by comparison.
Anyone who feels upto the challenge, and has access to it, I urge you try it out! If you do, try and have all 16 Heart Containers, bring a Potion with you, and use the Mirror Shield. You'll need them.
... Oh yeah, and I made the front page today! My Contest article, The Skull Kid's Identity was voted for today's (and the first ever) Front Page Bomber Article. I was absolutely stunned. I want to say a big thank you to all of you who voted for me. THANK YOU!!!
Today has been a very good day for me!

Lately, I've been trying to complete Oracles 100%, including all of the Mystical Rings, of which I now have 57. Go me. More importantly, over the last few months, I've been putting upon myself enormous power and defense limitations in order to make Boss Battles more difficult. My greatest achievement so far is the defeat of Shadow Link in the Palace of the Four Sword in ALTTP GBA, using the Lv.2 Master Sword and Green Tunic, as well as forbidding myself the use of Blue Potions or Fairies. Anything esle goes, and I've finally nailed the strategy. I'd urge anyone else who has the ability to attempt this challenge to do so - it's very trying, and really tests your skill as a warrior. Next challenge: beat Twinrova and Ganon in Oracles with a Wooden Sword and a Cursed Ring. It's proving tough... are you up to the challenge?

A couple of interesting developments have appeared in the development of the DS Zelda Title, Phantom Hourglass.
Firstly, one that I have noticed. One of the characters in the game bears a striking likeness to Ezlo, the Minish Elder of TMC fame. Save for the mouse like face, it's all there. If Nintendo decide to develop this, it could prove very interesting timeline-wise. There's now also talk that he could be a member of TMC's Wind Tribe. I posted the find in a theory thread some time ago - you can view it here.
Secondly, Lex made another discovery that could also feasably tie PH to the Four Swords series, specifically some PH development artwork released in a Japanese gaming magazine, JPN, that possibly depicts Link wearing the Four Sword on his back. It's difficult to discern, but a point worth considering. You can view it here, courtesy of Lex.

A better-quality image reveals that the sword is not, in fact, the Four Sword. It seems Link's sword-shield set has gotten another makeover.

Figures. They'd hardly give away something like that in the early promotional artwork. They had the Master Sword in TMC and pulled it out later on.

Ah well, I like the gaiden sword and shield sets better than the originals anyway!
