In terms of songs, yeah we get more which is always great. But the
album suffers. It's a lot easier for me to listen to a regular album than a double album because of the syndrome.

I find that a band's idea of how good their music is tends to be jaded. They often withhold a LOT of songs, songs which never really get released because they find them not to be of high enough quality. Here's a short list of fantastic songs that never got released for one reason or another:

These days unreleased songs are few and far between. Almost every track that gets recorded gets released at one time or another, because of bonus tracks for different regions in the world, different retail-exclusive bonus tracks, EPs, etc etc etc.
