Re: Concert Thread, Summer 2009!

A lot come by, but the interesting ones during the vacation are Green Day (8/03), Coldplay (8/09), and Incubus (8/15).

Incubus seems good enough.

wait... TOOL IS TOURING!? ok i gotta check that out like stat!
nolan, MAN im jealous of you going to see NIN. They're playing at Shoreline but i havent the money to go. bah!

yeah first time.. but how'd you guess?
Just a hunch :p
Usually when someone sees Opeth atleast once, they are a little less enthuised about seeing them again. They do put on a great show however, but it can be a bit less energetic than most bands. (also lack of Lindgren makes me sad. D: )

Re: Concert Thread, Summer 2009!

I dunno if Tool is touring right now, but they've been touring a lot in recent years. they are AMAZING live. If you have a chance to see them, DO NOT PASS IT UP!

So- the Opeth show was totally rad! We ended up not riding in the hearse, though, because the dude that owned it said it would be an uncomfortable 6-hour round trip. mildly disappointing but the show rocked. The opener was Enslaved. I never heard their music before but evidently they hadn't toured together in some time so it was a big deal for them to be there, and I must say, I was impressed.

There was no pit. I KNOW, RIGHT?!?!

overall experience- 7/10, only because I was super tired and I'm not a huge metal fan so I wasn's totally in hog heaven like the guys I was with.
Opeth itself= 9/10. Man, the singer for Opeth is super cute (as in, adorable, not attractive) and has a great way of interacting with the crowd. He told some funny-ass stories, and rocked the eff out. I was most impressed at the fact that he sings just as phenominally live as on the record, and with switching from growling to his beautiful singing voice, it was majorly impressive.

I am planning on going to rock fest this weekend in KC. Shinedown and slip knot play along with 13 other bands in this all day festival of great rock music.

I saw Tool live. They were alright. But it was the first time I had ever heard their music. Not a fan of it...
April Wine is playing at a bar tomorrow night, but i'm so broke right now. I saw Harlequin in February. That was freakin awesome.

I'm not gonna lie, I actually bought tickets to see the American Idol season 8 Tour... It's all because of ADAM. I usually hate every season of AI.

I also want to see Marilyn Manson and SLAYER. You gotta love Slayer.

I WANTED to see Fleetwood Mac- too bad they canceled their concert on us :<

Re: Concert Thread, Summer 2009!

Rockfest was cool I enjoyed Shinedowns performance the most. He didn't hold anything back at kept the crowd of 60,000 plus moving. Theory of a deadman was actually better than I thought they would be live and enjoyed them as well. The concert started at noon the temperature was in the 90's I seen a few people pass out. There were no chairs to sit on and the beer was warm. None of these things really matter because the music was good. Korn ended the show and they put on a hell of a show, I even thought about joining the mash pit but then I rembered I only weigh 150lbs. Also, I seen alot of great boobs, thats alwlays a plus.

sounds fun. I know shinedown doesn't hold back... he sings with all he's got
Although none of those bands are that exciting to me.
About the beer thing- One time I was at a concert at Blossom Music Center (outdoor venue) and this dude and his buddies were laying down a blanket, so he sat down his brand new full $9 beer (>__<) and 2 minutes later some chick came walking along and KICKED it over while walking by,and never even said sorry, or stopped, or anything. just kept walking! what a *****! I didn't even know the guy or girl but I wanted to kick her, and buy the guy a new beer. but I had no money.

Re: Concert Thread, Summer 2009!

Last night was my first show of the summer, Nine Inch Nails with Jane's Addiction.

The opening band was some rap-rockish group called Street Sweeper. They sounded pretty horrid. The most interesting thing about their half-hour set was a cover of "Paper Planes," though I use the word 'interesting' and not 'good' for a reason here.

Nine Inch Nails came on next, and while I am not into the band they sounded quite good, the mix was clear and even through pretty much their whole set. I was somewhat surprised they came on second and not last, since everything in the press release for the tour led me to believe they would be the headliner with Jane's opening for them. I suppose it is possible they switch it up depending on the night, though, since both sets were roughly the same length.

Jane's Addiction was alright, I guess, if you are into that band. Sound and performance was solid, but for me the music wasn't really interesting to hear. All three bands were missing the key component of audience interaction, something which I love in my concerts.

The biggest surprise of the night was how shockingly polite most of the audience was. Sure, they were rowdy and they drank and smoked and such to the point where it is probably going to be one of the tougher shows of the season, but when asked to stop they did so quickly and courteously. They were more than willing to go through the hassle of showing their ticket at each barrier multiple times with little to no complaint. They were all 'please' and 'thank you' and 'can you please help me' and suchlike.

I wasn't expecting it to be a crowd of horrible people, by any means, but I also wasn't expecting them to be as polite and accommodating as they were.

Overall, It was enjoyable. Shinedown singer was awsome, he really can sing. Nine dollars a beer sounds absurd! I only had to pay five which is reasonable at a concert. I actually saw a few beers tiped over by some people who were a little tipsy, but none of them were full. The heat made it hard for me to get a buzz so I gave up after my second beer.

Re: Concert Thread, Summer 2009!

Second show of the summer done. It was a part of a larger event called "Christian Heritage Festival," the end of it, in fact. There were two bands, Blue Tree (from Ireland) and Hillsong United (from Australia). Both were really intense Christian rock bands.

It was an interesting experience.
