A beautiful melody beats a virtuoso instrumental solo any day.

Uh, sorry to be sticking my nose in here randomly, but don't instrumental solos count as melody's sort of?

Anyway, have to disagree with this statement, but I don't really have any particular reasons why: That's just my own personal opinion.

Oh hey guys, listen to this mainstream hip-hop song from the 70s. It's filled with foul language, hoes, gangs, drugs, and a lot of negative **** you hear on BET and the radio.

Both Sides of the Brain is bad ass. Proto Culture is a cool, nerdy song.

Also lol Snow Storm. I haven't listened to Rapper's Delight in forever. Song kicks ass.

i used to have that elitist attitude about rap in my younger days. but one day you realize that there's no boundaries with music. it's all subjective. what's beautiful and bliss to one person is noise and nonsense to another.
Yes, with the exception of death metal. That always sounds like ****.

Anyway, I hate it when people differentiate hip-hop and 'rock', or really 'rock' and any other genre. It's all 'rock'. 'Rock' is just the white name for rhythm and blues, which is pretty much the root of all modern music- hiphop, metal, punk, ska, funk, (American) folk, bluegrass, trance, etc... they all stem from R&B on some level.

LOOK HOW HORRIBLE RAP MUSIC HAS BECOME!

I have here, a prime example of how downhill rap have become. I mean, it's just so sad how the genre have become with nuttin' but negetive values such as who has the most money, who can sleep around the most, who have the more **** and how much they spent on items such as golds and chains. Here, I actually have a video with most of the **** I have mention:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S3Wt...eature=related

Honestly, the "violins" are actually synchs made in "Garage Band". I'm amazed at the fact that rappers can even read sheet music. Honestly, are all rappers like this? Are all they do is nuttin' but talk about negative ****?

Re: The Hip-Hop "general" topic

I've never been into rap or hip hop, save the Beastie Boys. There was a time when I enjoyed 50 cent's Candy Shop. Those days are long gone now. The style of the singing just doesn't do it for me.

I'll admit that rock has just a raunchy lyrics as rap. I don't like how explicit rappers' lyrics are. I tend to enjoy the metaphors more. The perfect example can be heard in The Jack by AC/DC. The song is about catching an STD. It's masqueraded as a poker game. I can't seem to find that quality in rap or hip hop.

Yeah, but AC/DC is one of the most dull and repetitive bands in the world in my opinion. The rap you're finding is not the poetry I'm finding, beautiful, pained, sometimes comedic eloquence in every syllable either random or planned. Its simply the language at one of its high points.

They're pretty good, however, to be fair, there was some good competition on that show. The guy who won, the opera singer, deserved it just as much as Nuttin' but Strings did.

Re: The Hip-Hop "general" topic

I love hip hop. It's not my favourite genre but I like a lot of it.

Actually here is my top 5 hip hop albums:
1. GZA - Liquid Swords
2. Ghostface Killah - Ironman
3. Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
4. MF DOOM - MM.. FOOD
5. Nas - Illmatic

Two Wu-Tang related albums at the top... hmm... Kind of predictable list anyway hah.
