Re: Songs/artists/Genres

Magnum opus! Magnum opus!

It is the word I use to describe definitive albums. Definitive anything really.

Sgt. Pepper's isn't the best Beatles album anyway. Some of their best songs, but not their best album, overall. But people do like to use it as benchmark.

The Beatles best album was probably either 1 or Anathology.

Re: Songs/artists/Genres

Rx Bandits - These guys are ridiculous in a good way. No one in the world is like them. The lyrics, along with their cover art from their last two albums, is extremely thought provoking and probing.

Songs
Crushing Destroyer
Only For The Night
Republic

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Brilliantly sarcastic and of course, literate lyrics. I don't remember how I discovered this band, but I'm glad I did. Whatever it was.

Songs
No Action
Everyday I Write The Book
Watching The Detectives

Alkaline Trio - Despite falling in the trendy pop-punk category, they may bask in the fact that they've continually scared away more conservative listeners with their dark lyrical imagery, all while drawing a cult following.

Songs
Burned Is The House
Every Thug Needs a Lady
100 Stories

The Police - It is hard to believe that a band can become a Hall of Fame band with just five studio albums to their name, but The Police are such a band. Each one of their albums are unique, remarkable, and has aged quite well. This is an honor that the Police are most worthy of.

Songs
Canary In a Coalmine
Omegaman
Next To You

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Extraordinary.

Songs

Soul To Squeeze
Tell Me Baby
By The Way

"One Million Miles an Hour, Fast Asleep" is probably one of the strongest songs I've heard that is under three minutes.
