Death Magnetic Leaked

For all who want to hear it, its all over youtube and I'd assume torrent sites too.

The quality is kinda ****, we need someone smarter to rip it.

And if you'd like to know how it leaked, some store over in france started selling it before released, and the released is being bumped to this friday.

And another thing; Lars doesnt give a ****. Think about that one, guys (for those who know what he did)

The new album is horrible and sounds more like St. Anger after having to watch "Some Kind of Monster".

wow... I think it sounds nothing like st. anger.

I've heard Death Magnetic described as the bridge between Justice and the Black album.

I prefer to describe it as a showcase of all of Metallica's different eras/abilities/styles. there's a lot of range from song to song, and even in songs themselves.

The things that made me despise St. Awful were The drumming style (sounded like Lars was beating pots and trashcans with a mallet- and hello? snare drum?). Also, I didn't like Hetfield's vocals. they were just rhythmic shouting. I could totally feel the lack of inspiration in the lyrics. And there wasn't a guitar solo to be found. Kirk may as well have been on vacation during the recording and any schmoe could have done what he did.

All of these issues, I feel, have been corrected on Death Magnetic, and There is an obvious return to the songwriting style of the earlier "puppets" and "justice" days.

One thing people have to remember though, is that James's voice is not what it once was. all that screaming hurt his voice and he basically had to re-learn how to sing. this lead to an inevitable shift in range and how he uses his voice. Some singers, like the singer for Uriah Heep, can sound the same at 25 and at 55, but others have to evolve.

this entire album is all metallica. All of their styles and abilities shown off on one album... what trend are they following?!
Metallica helped SET the trends that all the new trendy metal bands are trying to emulate!

Re: Death Magnetic Leaked

I've heard most of the stuff from their album in the last few days due to various record stores playing it constantly. I have not been impressed; even the better songs are still pretty bad, and some of the bad stuff is downright offensive. It's definitely a step up from their last couple, but that's not saying much.

I'm gunna have to disagree. How much you like the music is completely up to you, your opinion. And i do agree on part of what you said, sorta. This album was recorded with warner instead of electra. After listening to the album a couple times, iv'e noticed that while most the songs are pretty good, it sounds like they were recorded kind of cheaply. i dont know if that would be warners fault, or mtallica's. I'm guessing warners fault.

And one more thing. I don't get why everyone has this weird grudge against St. Anger. I used to hate it just because everone else did, but after i listened to it a couple times, i really dont see what was so bad about it.

Re: Death Magnetic Leaked

The recording itself is fine. The songwriting and execution is the problem. It's all a bunch of half-baked metal cliches topped off with James Hetfield's annoyingly incapable vocals. I can't believe they spent like five years making this thing, or even three, because tons of bands churn out way, way better stuff on a yearly basis. The amount of hype Death Magnetic has received is criminal considering how absolutely mediocre it is.

St. Anger has terrible production (it sounds like mud with somebody banging a trash can lid in time), zero riffs whatsoever, awful lyrics, no guitar leads, and the songs are all three times as they have content to sustain themselves. It's just plain bad.

Then why do they release this while thrash is having a resurgence?

I found the actual quility of the music recording to be a little distorted. (Obviously i'm not talking about the distortion on the guitar) It cracks a little bit. But that aside, i do love their new album, i love st anger, i love evey album they have done, exept for like, garage inc.

Re: Death Magnetic Leaked

I've been thoroughly enjoying the new album and consequently think you're all full of crap. I haven't been much of a fan of Metallica either, certainly not of anything since 1991. Maybe it's because this is amongst the precious few offerings I've found this year that resonate to any degree.

On a side note, I'm not even sure what sea's metric is, he seems to hate everything universally.

I don't listen to Metallica and therefore don't have a real opinion, but what the hell kind of a name for an album is that?

Re: Death Magnetic Leaked

I just finished listening to this album. Manly tears. I guess I didn't realise just how long I'd been waiting.

My only problems with it are that firstly there seems to be a lot of suicide and death imagery, which has got me thinking one of the band's on his way to committing suicide, and they seem to be focusing on this theme rather than thinking about other issues as with other albums. Secondly some songs seem a bit jumbled up in parts, but this was my initial criticism with "...And Justice For All" which I've now come to love. And lastly, Hetfield's voice is audibly straining on some songs, which kind of ruins the effect in parts when you notice it.

But otherwise, upon first listen (second listen for All Nightmare Long, The Day That Never Comes, and Suicide Redemption of songs because I'd heard them at my mate's when his brother was on Guitar Hero III), they've satisfied me. I love the lyrics to some songs, I love the way he sings on songs like All Nightmare Long, Suicide Redemption is good for their first instrumental since AJFA (even though you can sort of hear the influence St. Anger had on the style which isn't exactly bad here), I love the riffage in songs like The Judas Kiss, and overall it filled me with a kind of energy that I haven't had just from listening to music in quite a while.

Welcome back Metallica. We've missed you. ;_;

WOW agreed. I have enjoyed metallica's later albums though. I don't mind St. Anger, Load is my favourite Metallica album, and the Black album has some good songs on it. I haven't listend to much of ReLoad exept for the Unforgiven 2, which is my favourite metallica song.
As for death Magnetic, I didnt like it a huge lot at first, but it is really growing on me. My three favourtite song after having listening to the album for almost a week now, is

1) The Unforgiven 3
2) The Judas Kiss
3) The End of The Line

First song i heard on this ablum was Unforgiven 3. At first I was kinda upset about how James sang it, but the diferent way he sings some songs on this album are also really starting to grow on me. The only thing that i'm not crazy about on this album is the Kirk solos. (kirk hammet solos are usually waw pedal crazy, where as James solos are usually more melodic.)
Kirk does fantastic solos, but sometimes i think he should stop loving his waw pedal just a little bit. Lol. All in all, it's nice to have two completely diifferent style guitar players in the same band, so, thats cool

Re: Death Magnetic Leaked

I hate the fact that its bricked walled, it just makes the songs sound flat. Second, the lyrics are straight retarded. The vocals are also ****, I enjoy the music though, but that's it.

Plus, as Sear mentioned this album took years to make, and there's nothing all that great about it. Which is more of an insult on the band then the album, but still.
