Re: The Dark Knight

I still say they need to somehow include Daniel Day-Lewis somehow, even if I doubt he'd ever do it. He vanishes completely into every role he's ever taken, much the same way Gary Oldman does, and Heath Ledger did as the Joker.

Johnny Depp is hit-or-miss when it comes to that. Sometimes he is completely immersed in a role (Jack Sparrow, Ed Wood, Raoul Duke, Edward, Sam) and sometimes you spend the whole movie sitting there thinking, 'hey, look, Johnny Depp!' (Dean Corso, Ichabod Crane, Roux, Willy Wonka).

Good point; I was just as floored by the Joker as the next guy, even if I was expecting something a bit different. I don't know much about the Riddler so I can't quite figure what they'd do with him, but I'd love to see what they come up with.

Re: The Dark Knight

lol, I didn't like Jim Carrey (sp?) as the Riddler either.
I think the riddler should be more of an introvert rational genius type. Depp might make that work. Trying to think of someone else who would.

Joker=flamboyantly insane genius
riddler=introvert rational genius

Where joker seeks to actively destroy the system, Riddler will invade the system and use it against itself. Kind of like the AIDS virus does to the imune system.....(oops that was a weird analogy....)

Depp might make it work. What about that guy who did Gandalf/Magneto ?
Or what about the guy who did agent-smith/Elron ?

Re: The Dark Knight

I want to see villains we haven't seen yet on the big screen. Like...

The Mad Hatter. He'd fit so well into Nolan's films, and he can be made even creepier than the Joker.

Who's to say Burton didn't base his Batman on the eariler comics? Batman used to kill all the time.

Dang I love your sig. Good ol' reboot.

I didn't read the earlier comics, so I can't really say. He may have killed at one time, before the character of Batman had evolved into what we now know and love.

Re: The Dark Knight

I understand that Batman's character has evolved, but all this Burton hate makes me sick. It's like now everyone has seen the Nolan movies, so they figure that his vision is the only true one, and everything else is ****. While his vision is well-received, it doesn't make it the absolute one.

Personally, I thought Batman Begins was terribly boring, and Nolan's vision of Ras Al Gul and Scarecrow are particullar lame. Does that make his vision wrong? No, it's just another take. In my opinion, Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman origin story on film by far.

Re: The Dark Knight

You know, I was thinking, even though people hate the idea of Robin being a sidekick, what about Batgirl? Yes, I know that we saw Babs at the end of the movie so she would be too young yet, but what about Cassandra Cain, the daughter of David Cain, the top assasin?
Don't worry, I thought about this. It kind of screws around with official Bats canon, but the movies have done that before. Let's say, to tie in with BBegins, we have Cain being one of the former ninja working with Ra's who did it right (In Ra's mind) and became what the League of Shadows wanted. He'd left the League a long time before Bruce joined, but Bruce knows of him because he goes on to become the badass assasin he is, and to father Cassandra.
Flash forward to the modern day, where Cain gets hired by the mob guys from DK to kill Batman. But as part of his training, he has Cassandra kill one of them much to her horror. Thus she flees from him, and during the movie, she decides to help Batman and takes up the BG mantle and is helping Bats fight off not only the GCPD but Cain's assasination attempts.
Its just an idea, I alwas have found Cassandra to be way cooler than Barbra as Batgirl. Maybe its cause I got into the comics after Barbra becomes Oracle. Who knows.

Re: The Dark Knight

Eh, no sidekicks, please. I think pop culture can safely remove Batman & Robin from the list of famous insuperable duos.

In Batman related news, Warner has announced plans to reboot the Superman Franchise, a la Hulk.

The studio "is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters."
"
Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov told WSJ that the Bryan Singer-directed Superman Returns "didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. ... It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned."

The exec added, "Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. ... But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."

Given the astounding commercial success of the grim and gritty Dark Knight, Robinov says Warners's upcoming DC movie slate is "going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," and the next Superman movie will be no exception.

The WSJ article also confirms that the live-action Justice League of America movie has been indefinitely shelved so that Warners, a la Marvel Studios' plan for an Avengers movie in 2011, can introduce that team's key members -- including Superman, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern -- in their own individual films before producing a team-up movie.
In relation to the bold, I've read some appealing rumors that in the next Superman, he could turn into a government lapdog, as akin to what he was doing in the Dark Knight Returns.

I just wish they'd drop the Justice League. What Marvel is doing with the Avengers works, because the Avengers is composed of a bunch of hardcore badasses. All the Justice League has is Batman.

Re: The Dark Knight

The most famous iterations of the Justice League have had DC's serious heavy-hitters, so, that's not exactly true.

In the comics, the Riddler has OCD, if I remember correctly. There was an arc where he got fed up with being caught , and tried to stop leaving clues, but found he literally couldn't. The harder he tried not to leave clues, the more macabre and grotesque his clues became, until he was caught, where there was this really creepy scene where he sort of unhinges, and talks about the clues not letting him go.

Of course, then Hush finds him.

We need Hush in a movie. Hush is bad-ass. When you can kill Poison Ivy, beat up Ra's, and drive the Joker out of town, you are seriously bad-ass.
