I agree with you on Spirited Away.

Anyway, the best anime was Harry Poterr.

lolwut.

I'd say the best-looking animes going at the moment are things along the lines of Gurren-Lagann and Code Geass, but presumably some things that came out more recently are better looking still.

Re: Best looking animes

Hard not to hear a mention of FLCL in any 'best anime' list.

Re: Best looking animes

^True. FLCL and Ghost In The Shell are a couple of the prettiest animes I've seen, though completely different in styles. Other than those, I think the best looking animes are ones that have that old-school Cowboy Bebop look or the clean animation of something like FMA.

Honestly I really don't see what's so beautiful about generic anime art.

Re: Best looking animes

[QUOTE=Crimson_Hero;1970627]Yesterday, I saw Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimeters Per Second. That film reminded me of how drop-dead gorgeous an anime can be. Seriously, this movie's imagery has a breathtaking level so high that it will leave your lungs and eyes shriveled and dry (The story alone will leave you in a similar state). Here's a preview.

After that, I checked out Shinkai's legendary masterpiece OVA: Voices from a Distant Star. Why is it legendary? It's 25 minutes of beauty - planned, drawn, colored, written and animated pretty much single-handedly by Shinkai on his Mac. I am in slack-jawed awe. QUOTE]

-------------

I can't agree more with you.. They're absolutely beautiful. I can't tell how many times I just sat there and looked at the preview.. longing for its release. The music is truly amazing as well.. the hair on my arms are standing *laughs*

Byousoku 5 Centimeter Per Second is one of my favourite movies..

Among "normal" anime, I didn't think Air looked so bad

(Bah, apparantly I cut away a part of the quoting symbols, but you get the point *nods*)

Re: Best looking animes

^ So did you watch em? If you did, it better not have been on Youtube; something like a Shinkai work just won't be done justice by Youtube. If only the HD streaming Stage6.com were still up....

Another gorgeous anime that you should NOT watch on Youtube: Macross Frontier. Watching the series, its hard to guess which the production team spent more money on, the CG mechs or the fine shading of Sheryl's hair. Every single frame of animation in it is $$$; they're 8 episodes in, and I just don't see how they can feasibly keep up the ridiculously high quality.

Ironically, here's a clip, on youtube... Seriously, watch it on something respectable. (download!)
