Goldeneye: Still the best Bond?

It was the best but has been cast down by others I think. Great story, good effects, and awesome action. I loved it!

Goldeneye will always have a special spot for me because it was the first Bond I saw, but I also like Live and Let Die(especially the song), Dr. No, Casino Royale

Goldeneye will always be my most remembered, just because I played the game so damn much, and I actually watched the movie after the game. So my knowledge of the game kinda overshadows the movie, although both were great, and playing the game made the movie that much better.

Casino Royale was pretty good too, but GE remains my favorite, albeit biased.

That's hard for me to say, I haven't watched a bond movie in years. From what I remember Goldeneye the movie was best, along with the game.

I don't think Goldeneye is even in my top 5 favorite bond movies. One is because I hate pierce as an actor. I find it overdone and two scripted. Real actors make me feel like they ARE the character, not acting the part.

Anyways, outside of that, I honestly feel the only reason Goldeneye garnered so much attention was because for the first time then, and hell even sense then, it launched a successful game based off a movie. Not only that, a game that changed the FPS genre forever. That I think is what lead to Goldeneye being hyped up so much.

The film, at best, was ok. MOST of the old school ones were much better. Like with most franchises, the early movies are better and the rest get corny as you move along. The most recent, Casino Royale, was excellent in the sense that it felt original and played out more like an old school one, yet at the same time felt very refreshing. That too is not in my top 5, but it does crack my top ten.

Goldeneye for me will always be remembered for it's game counterpart and not the movie.

Goldeneye is my favourite, although I admit it is not the best. I lost interest in the series after The World is Not Enough. I have not bothered with the last two because they looked like they probably sucked.

I don't have a proffessional opinion on this one cause I have seen Goldeneye but I can't judge because I haven't seen everyone Bond movie including the old ones but I did find while watching parts of Casino Royale (Which I didn't watch the whole movie of either) that the gadgets are more and more prominent. Now, I don't know if this is a result of modernization in the Bond movies or laziness (and I don't mean to offend anyone) on the part of the movie makers.. but it seems like in the New bond as compared with Goldeneye, there seemed to be less gadgets and more raw fighting on the part of Daniel Craig. I think that Goldeneye was possibly the best bond for its time but i think that we down the older ones because they aren't as modern and yes... may be a little bit cheesy. I have to say that when I first heard that Daniel craig would be named the next bond I was a little hesitant, I was used to seeing Pierce Brosnan who fit the bill perfectly as suave and charismatic, but it seemed like Craig brought a rawness or tough edge to Bond which was originanlly the intent for his character. I think that Goldeneye was an awesome movie but I for a. bad acting ,b. bad directing or c. bad storyline... I have seen most of one of the old think that we are adding a few too many gadgets and technology which makes up possibly Bond movies with Sean Connery and it actually wasn't all that bad...

That was really Desmond Llewelyn died. I think he was going to retire anyway, since they introduced R (John Cleese) as Q's replacement. I wish retirement was the only reason why he would no longer paly Q.

Goldeneye is still the best bond movie in my opinion.

Goldeneye is definitely the best Pierce Brosnan Bond film, but certainly not the best in the series. I have an affinity for some of Roger Moore's stuff before they decided to turn the franchise into a comedy, and obviously most of the Connery stuff is as entertaining as it ever was. I haven't seen Casino Royale, but the last few films have been far too over-the-top and ridiculous both plot- and character-wise for my liking.

Goldeneye is my favorite film with Brosnan in it.
The World is not enough is also another good Brosnan Bond movie.

Connery is my favorite Bond actor and IMO From Russia with love is the nest Bond movie.

Casino Royale kicked ass.
Roger Craig is a terrific actor and he was a good choice.

Craig is....different. I'll say that much. He doesn't seem as cool and suave as the other James Bonds. But I take it that's just another element of making the series more 'realistic.'

I thought Goldeneye was pretty good. I'm sure one of the classics is better though.

I really didn't like Casino Royale... It was so serious it seemed like it was just another Hollywood drama action flick like we've seen churned out in the past many years. And I didn't like bond's delivery of wit, too serious. (One positive thing, though, was the fact that the girl died. Not that I didn't like her, but movies always seem to find some lame loophole to let people have happy-ever-afters.)

Well I only saw it nce..Butthe game was amazin I was addictive to that game...Its like a past Halo..LOL..

I think the Bond films have gotten progressively better since Goldeneye(with the exception of "The World is Not Enough"). I dont think Goldeneye was teh best but it was mayeb the 3rd best behind Die Another Day at 2 and Royale at 1 IMO, although I haven't seen many of the old films so I cannot enitely say. And sorry for those who liked Moonraker, but I thought that was terrible(the book was much better).

GoldenEye is the standard by which many of the Bond films are measured, and for good reason. It had everything a good Bond film should have: sexy Bond girls, gadgets, an excellent plot with twists, memorable allies and kick-ass villains (I hope I'm allowed to say that in this forum!).

Granted, there were a few bad points to the film, such as the BMW never using its gadgets (I believe that was due to budget problems or the fact that most of the screenplay had been written before they got the contract to use BMW, or something of that nature). Also there were a few times where some of the awesome stunts had a bit of unrealism, but that is an element to be expected in the Brosnan films. Some of the one-liners are a little dumb ("I had to ventilate someone"). But little else makes GoldenEye bad.

Ah, the characters. I just have to mention "Xenia Onatopp" and people who watch Bond movies snicker, remembering how she kills people and the way she acts, in general. And who doesn't like Jack Wade, the CIA man; or even more, Valentin Zukovsky? Both make return appearences in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough, respectively; two other Brosnan films.

And of course, nothing tops the tank chase. I showed GoldenEye to a friend of mine, and after seeing GoldenEye dozens of times before, I knew exactly when the tank burst through the wall of the parking lot. Just before it did I said to my friend, "Alex, this is how you show a girl you like her." And then, just on cue, BLAM! He burst out laughing, and so did I. Seriously, ladies, if you're ever kidnapped by a rogue Russian general and some guy chases after you in a stolen tank, take the hint!

That said, nothing tops GoldenEye, my favorite movie of all time. The only Bond film that comes close is Goldfinger. But only close.

Yeah i agree with you all the way. The actors were great, the music rocked and yes the tank chase was "da bomb" whatever that means...and the characters, Xenia, Boris and of course Valentin were well written. Though i won't grant Goldeneye the title of best movie ever, it is by far the best Bond movie ever.
