Those are just a few, but there's a lot of really good stuff out there that most people don't hear.

Anyway, I'd like to point out that people saying rap sucks because it's all about sex, drugs, etc and then they say they like bands like Aerosmith and AC/DC are being pretty stupid.

Not only are you being ignorant in this post, but prejudiced against TFS as well! Saying that he speaks ghetto slang just becasue he listens to rap is about the most ignorant thing one could ever say. I listen to rap and I speak proper English. I have friends that listen to rap, they speak proper English. Do you even realize how racist that sounds as well? Apprently not, because ignorance is blind.

A person can choose to be ignorant about whatever. You interpretting me as a racist because I don't like a genre of music is ignorant as well. If anything I was exhibiting anger to the whole thing of "name calling". TFS can take that somewhere else. Everyone is ignorant to a certain point Grass, but it's being determined that I'm being ignorant because I don't like rap music. It's a type of music! I really and honestly don't think much about the music. But when things erupt in flames like they have on this forum...then sometimes I like to get involved just for fun.

But yeah, I have a problem with the word ignorant as well. It's a word that people use on others if they don't share the same viewpoints. If anything...it's overused....so please try again!

They're saying your ignorant TO rap music, not ignorant BECAUSE you don't like rap. I don't like rap at all. I hate it. But I keep an open mind about it- I can see the good things about rap, as well as the bad, which is something you don't seem able to do.

I've already made my choice on the type of music...meaning I gave it a chance. I left an open mind at one time...but as you grow older like I have...I've realized that I'm simply never going to like rap at all. So, yes in an essence....I have closed my mind on that topic.

You have already shown us that "all people who listen to rap talk incoherently and say dawg a lot" and that it gave TFS a "dirty mouth." I'm sorry, but if you listen to other genres of music, you would see the same cursing, not in the same context mind you, but it would be there.

Closing your mind to something just shows that your knowledge on the topic is quite low. Okay, you listened to rap 5 or 6 years ago? That means nothing to me. Sir, we're the same age. You're not that old, and closing your mind to a whole genre is just rediculous. If I closed my mind to only include what I listened to when I was, say, 17, then I wouldn't listen to close to half of the music I listen to.

It's fair if you say you've given rap a chance and that you don't like it. It's not for everyone, even if there's so much variety in it that its unlikely that some one could hate all of it. No one is trying to get you to listen to rap, to give it another shot. It's your base views on it that are what annoy people like TFS and other rap fans. You are correct that a lot of rap, especially within the mainstream, focus' on topics that not everyone likes, but to dismiss an entire genre, as well as attack that genre and those who listen to it, based on what little exposure you have to it...that'd be like saying all country is about pickup trucks and flipping an 18-wheeler on an interstate. That's what people are exposed, doesn't mean that's what the entire genre, or even the majority, is even about.

And saying that ghetto's exist because of the people who live in them....sir, that's really a topic for another thread, but that is just so incorrect.

I don't like rap simply because of the way it sounds. I have nothing against anybody who listens to rap. By chance, most people I know that listen to rap just so happen to talk incoherently. But that means nothing.

I honestly used to think the same way you do DakZhul.But I don't know how you can still think that everyone that listens to rap says "dawg", when 2 Dope and others have just proven you wrong by not speaking like an idiot.

Dark Zhul, I agree with you that the term "ignorant" may be being overused here, and I regret having used it, myself. I do, however, think you were being ignorant by stereotyping rap fans like that. A large percentage of rap music does contain profanity, but just because TFS likes rap, doesn't mean he talks like a gangster or cusses all the time.

It's okay not to like rap. If it's not your thing, it's not your thing. However, I have a problem when people think all it's about is sex, b****** and drugs. I don't believe the word ignorant is being over-used on the basis of people simply not hearing more than what's popular. And it's not that there's more of the like to listen to, believe me as a hip hop fan AND a uni radio student - mainstream playtime only plays a small amount of a certain type of music. It's one of the major arguments about the downfall of music and the media.

As for the word ignorant - it means to lack knowledge, or to be unlearned with a certain subject or matter. I admit to being ignorant about rock because I know I simply do not know enough about it. But I feel those who see rap and hip hop as, like I said earlier, all profanity and sex, then that is ignorance because there is more to it and if you know little beyond mainstream hip hop - like I said in a previous post, your opinion is limited, and according to the definition of ignorance - it's exactly that.
