Re: Do you like rock or rap?

I listen to both, but it depends on what kinds of rock or rap.

I like the rock music you would hear on Sirius Radio's "Alt Nation 21". (Music like: The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Modest Mouse, Death Cab For Cutie, Fall Out Boy, Snow Patrol, etc.)

I like the rap music that DOESN'T include the involvement of drugs, sex, violence etc. I like rap artists like: The Beastie Boys, Gym Class Heroes. They're the only two I can think about right now.

Yes. Modest Mouse is my most favoritest band ever, as you can see by my sig.

This ladies and gentlemen, is where ignorance comes from.

Rather than go off of what you hear on the "Top 10" list or the media, try listening to some good modern rappers such as Nas, Unspoken Heard, and Paul Wall.

I'm not really talking about some rap artists here, I'm talking about most rap artists. I understand that SOME rap artists are unique in their own way, and I respect that, but the fact is, is that most rap groups are all the same. At least to me they are.

Seriously, I'm not trying to be ignorant. I apologize if I came off as a stereotypist. When I said rap, I wasn't talking about every subgenre of it. I will be open to the fact that some rap requires talent, but the majority of it doesn't appeal to me. Infact, one rap song (if you consider it rap) that I did like was Cupid's Chokehold by Gym Class Heroes. It had beautiful lyrics.

Re: Do you like rock or rap?

Well, if you want a good idea of rap, don't go out and buy a 50 cent album or something off the Top Ten Charts on iTunes, as said before. That's the crap that people like because it's annoying, and people are annoying.

Tupac, Nas, all that is good.

EDIT: AND BOXMAN.

Re: Do you like rock or rap?

Lol @ poetry to a beat. Guess what....that's pretty much all music with lyrics. In fact all music lyrics or not could be considered poetry. But that aside, rap and hiphop...they all seem to talk about the same thing. And when they get "deep"...the deepest they go is how bad the hood is or some kinda of bullcrap like that.

I feel no remorse for people in the ghetto or the hood, and yeah I'm white...if it's a bad neighborhood then it's probably the fault of the people that live there.
'Nuff said. Pwn.

I prefer rock. I think rap is a talentless genre that only ghetto ppl really truly enjoy. But thats just my oppinion. I used to listen to rap. now im like "goth" as some would put it.

An honest one.

I, however, prefer rock. I wouldn't describe rap as "talentless", but it does get old pretty fast.

It's just like that ICP song, "How Many Times". The song is about how much ignorance there is in the world and you are clearly expressing this.

How many times will it take before these f***ing kids will get through their head that the rap they so judge negativly is a shame to actually good rap? Just like their is horrible rock music, so there is horrible rap music.

I could not have said it better myself. People need to realize that there is other rap than just is what is played on the radio. There is some great rap music out there, that doesn't follow the mold of the mainstream, take some time out to look, you will find it, and dare I say, you might just like it.

Definately Rock. Since Rap is what destroyed and ruined music.
"yo dawg, me an' mah homies was walkin' in da hood an' actin' like foos yo"
That kind of crappy style. Which nearly every sensible person would assume.

...it's like I have to keep on repeating myself until the ignorance will stop.

You know what ruined music? Ignorant people like you. They chose to listen to the same thing and never really transcended any new style or genre in their music, but rather, listened to the same repetative ideals and insturmentals. Yeah, that's in rock music too, but of course you're too blinded to see that and instead, you have to bash rap like every other idiot in here is doing.

In fact, lets do some lyrical comparions of a rock song I'm sure you like and a an actual good rap song:

Quote:
"Pillsbury Doughgirl" - All American Rejects

People say everyday that she's taking you away,
And that we should leave her,
Everytime I see her,
I ask you why, and did she lie about those times with all those other guys?
I could see it a mile away, yeah, you're with her everyday,
The nights that you just missed,
The things that you promised,
They never stay (stay)
She's never seen the sun,
She wears shorts and I run away,

[Chorus]
He's dating Casper and he's afraid to ask her for his manhood back,
Please give me my friend back,
He's dating Casper, his heart races faster, just for her,
Why can't we be like we were?

First you skip but now you slip,
Sure is sad seeing a guy thats whipped,
Just a puppet to sink below, she's using you all for show.
Back in the day, we'd come and play,
But now you're asking if you may,
Can't you see that she's not the one?
She can't even see the sun,
The nights that you just missed,
The things that you promised,
They never stay (stay)
She's never seen the sun,
She wears shorts and I run away,

[Chorus]

I'll ask her, will she rip my heart right out,
If she hurt me once again? (Will you ask her?)
I'll tell her, that's not what I'm all about,
I'll stop hurting all my friends, we're okay,

[Chorus]

He's going away,
Away,
Why can't we be like we were?
Wow, how origional, a song about a girl. Like I haven't heard enough music today that sings about that.

Quote:
"Gangstas Paradise" - Coolio
As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realise there's none left
'Cause I've been brassing and laughing so long that
Even my mamma thinks that my mind is gone
But I aint never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
Me be treated like a punk, you know that's unheard of
You better watch how you talking, and where you walking
Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk
I really hate to trip but I gotta lope
As they croak I see myself in the pistal smoke ... fool
I'm the kinda G that little homies want to be like
On my knees in the night, saying prayers in the street light

[Chorus 1]
They been spending most their lives living in the gangsta's paradise (x4)

They got the situation, they got me facing
I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the strip
So I gotta be down with the hood team
Too much television watching got me chasing dreams
I'm an educated fool with my knee on my mind
Got my 10 in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I'm a loped out gangsta set trippin banger
And my homies is down so gonna rouse my anger ... fool
Death aint nothing but a heart beat away
I'm living life do or die, what can I say
I'm 23 never will I live to see 24
The way things is going I don't know

[Chorus 2]
Tell me why are we so blind to see
That the ones we hurt are you and me (x2)

[repeat Chorus 1] (2x)

Power and the money, money and the power
Minute after minute, hour after hour
Everybody's running, but half of them aint looking
What's going on in the kitchen, but I don't know what's cooking
They say I've got to learn but nobody's here to teach me
If they can't understand it, how can they reach me
I guess they can't
I guess they won't
I guess they front
That's why I know my life is out of luck ... fool

[repeat Chorus 2] (4x)
This song is actually *gasp* not gloyrifing any sterotype that you think rap sings about. Rare, I know!

WOW.
Learn your history, please. :]
You know, when rock music first came out, people thought it wasn't going to catch on; that it was annoying and loud, and it would never be popular.
Well guess what?
People have the same ideas as they did fifty to sixty years ago.
Please don't stereotype.
And if "sensible" people assume that rap is automatically like that, then I don't know what "sensible" even means anymore.

...Sir, Gym Class Heroes are giving shout-outs to all those bands. They aren't making fun of them. I mean, come on, they're signed to FBR/Decaydence. Travis and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy are like, best friends. They do the same thing at the end of "On My Own Time (Write On!)," giving shout-outs to bands and emcees in underground hip-hop and the mainstream:
Boys Night Out, Louis Logic, J.J. Brown, Panic! At The Disco, The Academy Is..., Fall Out Boy, I Am The Avalanche, Armour For Sleep, Rheostatics, and more. Just to clear that up.

But it is true. There is just as much crappy rock as there is crappy rap. The rock fans just don't bother to look for and listen to the good rap, just as many rap fans don't bother to look for the good rock.

Which is why I'm playing the devils advocate here. The only way to show somebody he is being ignorant is to get ignorant back with them apprantly, it's even sickening to me.
