No, instead they're angsty lyrics about how people = ****, which is just as bad.

The best rap/metal collaboration I've heard is still Anthrax and Public Enemy.

You haven't heard the real stuff. This is why most real Hip-Hop fans hate most of the mainstream rappers, they expose people to crap and then those people believe that that's how Hip-Hop is.

50 Cent, Jay-Z, The Game, T.I., these guys don't represent true Hip-Hop. They give you a false image.

Ever heard Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony, or any old school Hip-Hop to begin with? The '90s were heaven, lots of good stuff from that time.

And Hip-Hop lyrics should never be taken too seriously, most of the time they're just all silly talk. I don't mind listening to stuff with dumb lyrics (although there is a limit) as long as I like the flow (the beat, the melody, etc).

If you want real good poetic lyrics though, you've got Tupac records waiting to be heard. Personally, I like to variate, so I don't stick to just one type of lyrics or whatever.

I guess that's why it's hard for a musicians in particular to get into rap, when we have these losers representing it in the mainstream.

By the way, here are some lyrics from Slipknots newest CD:

Chaos is just the begginning, every promise I made I'm recinding
Centre mass in the middle of the monster
I'm getting tired of drowning in the constant cry for help
It's debatable, the only reason that you love me is i'm hated by all
Come see dysfunction, I guess were gunna leave it open for discussion

I am a product, of your conduct
The uncontrollable urges that made me, have made us all
are you proud do you even care?
You taught us all to lie, and thats how we made it here
You shouldnt have buried the truth with your secrets
But you were to impressed with your pretence
Now as far as I know, i dont know anything
Cause you made damn sure I wasn't anything.

Show me some Jay-z lyrics better than that.

Re: Linkin Park

Exactly. I can understand if you don't like the beats of Hip-Hop, plain and simple, but there are poetic rappers out there. And if not poetic rappers, poetic Hip-Hop songs.

Well said. Also, why is it that people who obviously dislike the genre of rap, say things about it they don't know for a fact if it's true? (i.e. saying above that rap is all rhythm and no melody.) Rap's base is rhythm yes, but there is a BUNCH of underground and unheard rappers with rhythm AS WELL as melody. I respect you alot WZ4E, but to say Hip-Hop lyrics should never be taken seriously is well, crazy for lack of a better term. BUT I do agree that most old school, and ALOT of early to mid 90s hip-hop was when the culture really shined. As I've said before in countless arguments here at ZU, you really need to give it a chance, and ACTUALLY LOOK for the good rap.

I lol'd. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z really isn't the rapper to be comparing lyrics to. Matter of fact, comparing lyrics from two different genres doesn't really make much sense either. Jay-Z is EXTREMELY overrated. Plain and simple.

Oh yeah, I've also heard some (I kid you not) INCREDIBLE hip-hop beats.

I'm not really interested in Rap/Rock collaborations, because 98% of the time, the rapper sucks. Horribly. Prime example = Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park.

Re: Linkin Park

I dunno, I used to love listening to LP but then I grew out of listening to them constantly. However I don't find them annoying, in fact I'll listen to them occassionally when I'm bored and it'll cheer me up, despite the hardcore emo-ness

Re: Linkin Park

I love Linkin Park, but sometimes can get boring to listen to at times, but I still like their band a whole lot. Just that Reanimatiion was kinda suckish.

Re: Linkin Park

I find Linkin Park to be an atrocious and horrid excuse for a band. Anyone who has been playing guitar for at least a few hours can play their most 'complex' and 'difficult' songs with no problems. They are just mainstream trash that uses their image and their suppost deep lyrics to appeal to a bunch of tweenagers. Saying that, I think you know how I feel about the band.

Re: Linkin Park

I like them.
Some of their songs are really good.
For example:
By Myself
Breaking the habit
In the End

They are pretty good
