I don't know of Gym Class Heroes, but I'll check 'em out. As for Lupe Fiasco, believe me, I know all about him. I knew about him WAY before he broke the mainstream with "Kick Push". And honestly, I have to say that he is one of my favorite rappers. Thanks for the recommendations anyways though.

AFI reminds me somewhat of MCR, you might like them, don't know if you've heard one of their latest, Miss Murderer. I don't listen to them much, my stuff falls under grunge, like I said in the first post.

Re: What kind of music are you?

I think I listen to way too much of a variety of music to actually just pick a genre, but I'll list my favourite bands to see what others may suggest for me, just out of curiosity:

Barenaked Ladies
Less Than Jake
The Used
Motion City Soundtrack
Great Big Sea

Those fall under somewhere in the alt. rock and somewhat punk-rock areas. I would suggest maybe My Chemical Romance, AFI, Taking Back Sunday, Radiohead, etc. Just google Alt. rock and punk rock and you should get some bands you may like.

For that guy calling System of a Down "alternative metal", all I can say is that alternative metal isn't a genre by any standards. What is "alternative"? What does alternative sound like? Being "different"? That's not good enough, clownfish. System of a Down fit somewhere between nu metal, metalcore, pop punk. If I had to put a finger on it, it'd be progressive nu metal, but "alternative metal" doesn't make the cut. This extends to "alternative rock" as well.

As for Godsmack and Avenged Sevenfold, they are not heavy metal, if you want to go by the modern definition of heavy metal. They fit in with nu metal and metalcore, roughly.

Yeah, genre debates are stupid, but when you kids go that far astray, well, something has to be said.
Bravo searanox! Bravo!

As for me... I listen to what ever I feel like at the time. This extends to every genre, quite literally. The best way to point out what I listen to however, is through my audioscrobbler.

Don't like what I listen to? I don't care... so it's probably best you just keep that to yourself.

Re: What kind of music are you?

I swear, I love old Rap. Tupac, Dr.Dre, Ice Cube... damn, I love their music.

I also enjoy Rock, examples are Guns n Roses, Disturbed, Rammstein, and Van Halen.

I'm able to enjoy many different types of music, I am quite the hybrid in many aspects of life.

Ah, I love Jurassic 5, I have all their albums. If you like them, I recommend you try listening to Freestyle Fellowship, their style is odd, but refreshing nonetheless. Try getting their album entitled "Inner City Griots".

Re: What kind of music are you?

I like a lot of different types of music. Classical, middle eastern, classic rock, funk, reggae, blues, blues-rock, folk, and psychedelia. I'm trying to listen to a lot of different styles and genres of music to influence my guitar playing and musicianship, which I'm trying to base particularly heavily on the blues. And, Haku, I already recommended the Floyd to you, (elsewhere, mind you) sooo... I'm out .

Yup, I have their Cd. Yet the one problem I have for AFI is that their being a little bit to emo. Oh and I just wanted to bring this up, who HATES the new greenday? I loved the old greenday-when they acuatlly did good music. Does anyone agree?

-Boards of Canada (Really out of place with the rest of the list )
-Children of Bodom
-Emperor
-Iron Maiden
-Led Zeppelin
-Necrophagist
-Nevermore
-Nile
-Opeth
-Pink Floyd
-Strapping Young Lad
-Tool

And yes, suggestions would be welcomed.
Oh you will be so easy

For bands that are like Children of Bodom, but so much better check out the following:

Kalmah (The Black Waltz is amazing, everything else less so but still better than even the best of Bodom), Norther, and Blood Stain Child. Also, for some of the best power metal with harsh vocals that isn't a Bodom rip off you should seek out the only album from the Swedish band Brimstone called - Carving A Crimson Career. Also: Wintersun - s/t

Iron Maiden, check out the following bands: Satan, Pagan Altar, Angel Witch, and Diamond Head.

Emperor: Check out Dark Fortress (Stabwounds is their best), Vesperian Sorrow, Enslaved (anything aside from the last three albums, even if they are good), and Kataxu (amazing band)

Necrophagist: First off, boring boring band, the Dream Theater of death metal >_> anyways: I suggest the following:
Gorod - Neurotripsicks
Spawn of Possession - Cabinets AND Noctambulant
!T.O.O.H! - From Higher Will, Pod Vladou Bice, AND Rad a trest
Anata - Under A Stone With No Inscription AND The Conductor's Departure
Gory Blister - Art Bleeds AND Skymorphosis
Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris
Psycroptic - The Sceptre of the Ancients
Psypheria - Embrace the Mutation
Stargazer - The Scream That Tore The Sky
Wayd - The Ultimate Passion, Barriers, AND Decadance
Wicked Innocence - Omnipotence, Worship, AND Opium Empire

For Opeth:

Farmakon
Empyrean Sky
Disillusion
and because comparissons are made even if they are totally NOT valid ones Agalloch (GET EVERYTHING FROM THIS BAND)

-------------------------------------------------------

So I listen to:

Metal in all of its forms:

Power Metal -
Kamelot, Brimstone, Kalmah, Elvenking, Grave Digger

Thrash Metal -
Artillery, Holy Terror, Heathen

Heavy Metal -
Brocas Helm, Manilla Road, Iron Maiden

Death Metal -
Gorod, Wayd, Spawn of Possession, !T.O.O.H!, Wicked Innocence, Stargazer, Lykathea Aflame

Black Metal -
Diabolical Masquerade, Summoning, Weakling, Kataxu, Lurker of Chalice

Doom Metal -
Saturnus, Paramaecium, Black Forest, Acid Bath, Forest Stream, November's Doom

Viking Metal -
Falkenbach, Mithotyn, Einherjer, Thyrfing, Moonsorrow

Folk Metal -
Agalloch(Favorite band), Korpiklaani, Ashtar, Empyrium, Otyg

Metalcore -
The Red Chord, Architects, Between the Buried and Me, Glass Casket, Despised Icon, 7 Angels 7 Plagues

Prog Metal -
Pain of Salvation (second favorite band), Devin Townsend Band, Sculptured, Spastic Ink, Noekk, Ihsahn

Gothic Metal -
Penumbra, Golden Dawn, Hyubris, Lunatica

Post-Black Metal
Solefald, Arcturus, Oxiplegatz, Fleurety, Autumndusk, Ram-Zet

AS well as

Rock -
Our Lady Peace, Katatonia, Deep Purple, AFI, Muse, Faith No More

Post-Hardcore -
The Blood Brothers, At The Drive-In, Bear vs. Shark, The Fall Of Troy, yourcodenameis:milo

Neo-Folk/Folk -

Re: What kind of music are you?

Man, you guys sure do know alot of music types. I myself usually listen to R&B and Rap. I can't really get any more detailed than that. If it's on BET, that's what I'm usually listening to.

I do know a few rock songs, but it's alittle hard for me to remember the names of the bands.

CrushedHope -
I recommend Black Majesty. Galloglass, Cryonic Temple, Vanishing Point and Eternal Reign. I think they're actually all on the same label, or were at one stage, LMP.
I'm also very much into metal, especially power/progressive and classic heavy metal.

Linkprry - I don't know much about rap and r&b, actually I don't know anything, so I'll let someone else answer this one .

I like the type of rock which they call 'Grunge'. Bands that fall under this title are bands such as, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Nirvana.
Grunge= Punk-Metal
In case you didn't know.

Yea so I like The most of all grunge. Grunge generally is just not that great sometimes, but at others its mind blowing (nirvana, lucerin blue, Showbread).

So yea, Im also into emo, screamo, punk, ska-punk (ska punk is nostalgic for me ), Metal, Hip-hop, Rap (only some rap and hip-hop, kj-52 is all right, and thousand foot krutch is like old school so they freaking rock), Industrial, Cowpunk, Punk-pop, Garage punk, Sadcore, Slowcore, Math Rock, Riot Grrrl (sometimes, but most of it sucks), Funk Metal, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal, And aussie rock. Ok those are styles, and those are just about half the styles that you can find on the mp3.com styles list.

Yea, so go there if you cant quite put a lael on what style you really like.

Re: What kind of music are you?

Grunge =/= Punk-metal.

Grunge really has nothing to do with metal, as grunge is rock ... and metal is it's own stand alone genre. Not to mention there is no such thing as "punk metal." Metalcore, crossover, and thrash metal all have punk in their sound but ... are not called "punk metal."

Thanks MoonPhoenix I already know of Galloglass and Cryonic Temple, but I will check the others out.

As for you Linkprry Check out General Patton vs The X-ecutioners, their one release just totally rules. One of the few hip-hop releases I like, probably because it is quite "weird."

IndiGo-Go Zora: If there is one screamo band to recommend it is At the Drive-In. I'm not a great metal-listener, but you got Windir, Opeth, Satyricon and Ulver. I'm completely blank when it comes to rap/hip-hop. Thrash: Early Metallica.

I like genres such as rock in general, mostly classic, punk, psychedelic, progressive and experimental. I also like indie and grunge.

Og forresten var jeg ikke klar over at det var norske folk her.
