Whats up with books and games being turned into movies

How come books and games are being turned into movies in the past months. I mean Harry Potter is one thing but now they made the Chronicales of Narnia, Chicken Little, Doom, and some other movies and next is Halo and alot of other things that might suck so I dont understand why they are even made so maybe you all can help me

Re: Whats up with books and games being turned into movies

Because the book or game that it is based off of is popular so they decide to make some easy money by making a (usually) crappy movie based off of it just so the fans will go see it.

Yeah except they make them much much worse at least with turning the book or game as a movie they do a little of it right. With movies turned into games they just make crap and put video game on it and expect people to by it

It's because Film makers are running out of ideas. After a century of entertainment, you'd be running out of ideas, too.

Re: Whats up with books and games being turned into movies

The movie prouducers, game business, and publishers of book want ot make more money. It's werid to me that books that are turn into movies do good while games turn into movies don't do that well.. I think the movie business is running low on ideas for original movies ideas, so they go after the most popular books and games to make some cheap quick buck.

Re: Whats up with books and games being turned into movies

The Chronicles of Narina are a moderately popular book series too, from my understanding, so I'm not sure why you would contrast it to Harry Potter. And anyways, it is interesting to see something in a different medium. There are certain limitations to all of them. For books, there is the visual aspect of it. Converting it into movie formulates an image and stuff. Pretty simple concept that you could use along with them runnint ouf ot ideas.

Film makers are always on the lookout for untouched resources. Games and books are a couple of the easiest things to adapt to the big screen, because they share many similarities as far as storytelling, with a few differences like more character development in books than in movies, but its always easy to cut content.

Re: Whats up with books and games being turned into movies

I don't think it's the fact that they're running out of ideas, but the producers have gotten so incredibly lazy over the past decade in the film industry that they probably just say to themselves "Hey, Alien made a lot of money, Terminator made a lot of money, so if we make a movie called 'Alien Terminator' we'll make twice as much money!" As was already stated, producers and directors would rather opt to make a quick buck, rather than take all the time and effort to produce a, God forbid, quality movie.

Film making isn't an art anymore, it's a business. As with any business, they need a hook. Back in the bad old days you could just put up a tagline like "The most horrifying experience EVER!", or "The greatest cinematic achivement of the CENTURY!" Well, people have gotten much more intelligent over the past century, and now, thanks to the magic of modernization, filmmakers can appeal to a wider range of individuals by commiting a popular book, or comic, or T.V. show to the silver screen. It's cheap, easy, and it works. It's not about making a good movie anymore, it's about squeezing as much blood from a stone as possible.

It's business, man. Gotta love the 21st century.

And, yes, "Alien Terminator" is an actual movie.

Re: Whats up with books and games being turned into movies

MOST movies are based on books. A book can contain life. A movie can never contain or recreate life like a book can. I'm happy to see movies based off of books. It sometimes spurrs movie-goers to read. I've noticed a sudden jump in popularity of Lord of the Rings books at my school.
As for movies based on games, people like them because they like being able to recognize things. I've noticed that people enjoy seeing things they have seen before in some other form or fashion. For example, when I watch the Halo movie, I'm going to get a certain tingle of pleasure after seeing some familiar enemies. All of this applies to books as well.

Am I over-analyzing it? Of course I am, I always do. I actually find pleasure in over-analyzing things.
