Hold on to your butts.

Last we heard from Jurassic Park 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Kathleen Kennedy had been hired to draft a script. Not a bad choice — I mean the leap from “killer CGI apes” to “killer CGI lizards” really isn’t that wide.

So, how’s production been going since then? Pretty well it seems, as producer Frank Marshall recently revealed that the plan is to have Jurassic Park 4 in theatres by the summer of 2014.

See, I initially read that as "Jurassic Park 4: Rise of the Planet of the Apes", which would've been an interesting crossover, if nothing else.

But just JP4? Meh. The first one was very good. The next two, nosso much. I'd rather money was spent on good, original, IPs.

I'd rather have them remake the original or reboot the series.

@John: I'm in the same camp except I think they could actually make something really good (BECAUSE DINOSAURS!) but I really think they need something original... we'll see I guess.

I just don't see any new way they could do this, short of "T-Rex loose in New York!" (Which, actually, they did already. In the...third(?) one. It sucked). I mean, the special effects for the first still hold up very well, the plot's been done to death...What's left, exactly? Doing it again with the dinosaurs having feathers?

Oh come on, The Lost World wasn't that bad.

The "T-Rex loose in New York" plot reminds me too much of that awful movie, Godzilla (1998). I hope that they don't go that route.

I know its not that old John, I remember seeing it in the theaters.
However I cant think of anything else to do with the series either.

See, what Hollywood needs to learn is that if there's nowhere left to take a franchise...don't take it anywhere! It's done, it's told all the good stories it will, time to write some new ones! But noooo...

Well there's a big difference between the first and the two sequels. The first one actually involved a struggle, an established power (humans) trying to control the dinosaurs, and it just gradually goes to hell.

The two other movies are very straight-forward. A small group of people are trying to escape the island, pretty much from the get-go. It's no longer a Jurassic Park, but a Jurassic Island which... is pretty generic, the only thing that sets it apart from any other "haunted house" movie is the dinosaurs which just isn't enough.

Where can we go from here? Well to be honest... I don't know. But I'm sure someone can think of something

Have you actually watched the real Godzilla movies? Just curious
