I think Amon is a bender. Like, either water/fire/earth or air.
And just took his bending one step further to learn how to energy bend.

And I think he just wants to get rid of bending so he can be the only one, and rule the world.
I don't buy all this "Amon is for the people" BS.

And I find Aang and Bolin are very different. They're both high energy, sure.
But Aang seemed a little more dignified and less girl crazy.
I'm sure I'll like him more as the series goes on though.

I wouldn't put down the theory that Amon is a bender that wants to be THE bender. If he was the avatar, he wouldn't even need a ruse. I wonder if there have ever been any bad avatars.

Well Aang definitely liked attention. That's most evident in the Kioshi (Kyoshi?) Warrior episode in the first season. I won't say that Bolin is an Aang expy or anything, and maybe being goofy is just his way of getting past troubles.

I'm not sure about Amon. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a bender of some kind, but at the same time I doubt the whole "permanent bending removal" as well. The only way to do that is with Energy Bending and I'm pretty sure only the Avatar can do that.

Maybe a more potent style of Chi-Blocking?

Yeah, Bolin is more similar to Sokka.

Yeah, i'm not even sure it's energy bending. Where was the glow?
It was a pretty spectacular scene when Aang used energy bending to take away bending.

And if an Avatar was tired out after it, I doubt Amon could do it multiple times with no problem.

I'm not so sure about his "energy bending"

If Amon turns out to be a bender, I'm betting my money that he'll not only take away Korra's bending, but also somehow give himself the ability to bend all four elements.

Something like that would be interesting because it would make a point to both Korra and viewers that there's more to being the avatar than just bending, and that being able to bend all four elements doesn't make you the avatar.

He could've been using an advanced chi-blocking technique.

Its not like Korra doesn't know about the spiritual side, she just has a hard time understanding it and taking it seriously.

I think that is definitely plausible.
If he actually is energy bending.

I'm betting it'll be advanced chi blocking, and she'll have to figure out a way to undo it or make herself immune to it. I expect Amon to disable her bending within the next few episodes.

I'm betting it's just chi blocking. The way performed it at the... convention was unlike when the Lion Turtle taught Aang.

Yeah guys, it's definitely an advanced chi-blocking or something of the sort. We witnessed the Lion Turtle put one claw on his forehead and the other on his chest. Aang repeated the same process to Ozai.
But Amon did the forehead and the back of the neck. I'm pretty sure the back of the neck is some sort of pressure point.
And look what I found on Wikipedia under the "pressure point" article.



And "Qi" is also spelled chi.


So considering this is true, he's obviously pulling the "blah blah blah spirits came to me" because he's either A) crazy or B) he wants to assert his dominance over his following.

I like the more potent chi blocking technique idea too. It is different the way he does it.

Saw a spoiler that can be proven as a fake and one where I am like "ooh pretty!"

So, yeah. It's pretty evident that Amon is not an energybender but a powerful chi blocker. I wonder how he learned it, though. Also, I like how they managed to choose a name relating to a pressure point AND something about being masked. They really choose their names well....

I am apparently not the first one to relate all of this into Amon's abilities. Interesting.

Evidence is stacking up against him energy bending. That's for sure.

I just had to.

I didn't know anyone would be bothered enough by the idea that they'd make something like that about it. Obviously we're meant to believe it's energy bending, so don't fuss about people thinking he can energy bend.

It's reasonable, really. The way they introduced his power made it seem like energybending (to those of us who saw A:TLA). The producers are probably misleading us (and Korra, too) until they divulge into the actual process. But I guess they left a few clues about which to conspire....

I think we might be going to see the Kyoshi warriors before we find out what's going on.
