I'm really not amazed they're scared of benders. It's very similar to Marvel's X-men. You have these people that can kill you or horribly destroy your property if you make them a little mad and you have no way to defend yourself. I'd think most people would be terrified of them and want them dead. |
I'm talking about the war, where the Fire Nation sought to destroy/enslave every non-Fire Nation citizen they got their hands on.
I don't know about you, but I knew of a people who could EASILY annihilate my entire city, killing everyone that I knew and love, I'd make damned sure to stay on their good side. Especially one that can control all the elements, go supernatural on my ass, and make my life, and the lives of everyone I hold dear a living nightmare in a span of 24 hours.
I mean, imagine for a moment, an Avatar who didn't give a rat's ass about destruction of property and/or human life to fulfill his/her goals? Now get that Avatar really, really pissed, and a good reason to hate you and your friends. Hell, give an entire army of benders a good reason to hate you and your friends!
Bye-bye, Republic City! Hello, smoldering hole! Now what are we going to do about all these refugees that escaped?
That's what I don't get. "Oh, these people have the powers to destroy our entire town in a blink of an eye! Let's antagonist them, and hope they won't do the very thing we're afraid they'll do!"
