They were saved from a group of firebenders. They are also repeatedly terrorized by gangs of bending thugs.

I'm really not amazed they're scared of benders. It's very similar to Marvel's X-men. You have these people that can kill you or horribly destroy your property if you make them a little mad and you have no way to defend yourself. I'd think most people would be terrified of them and want them dead.

I'm talking about the war, where the Fire Nation sought to destroy/enslave every non-Fire Nation citizen they got their hands on.

I don't know about you, but I knew of a people who could EASILY annihilate my entire city, killing everyone that I knew and love, I'd make damned sure to stay on their good side. Especially one that can control all the elements, go supernatural on my ass, and make my life, and the lives of everyone I hold dear a living nightmare in a span of 24 hours.

I mean, imagine for a moment, an Avatar who didn't give a rat's ass about destruction of property and/or human life to fulfill his/her goals? Now get that Avatar really, really pissed, and a good reason to hate you and your friends. Hell, give an entire army of benders a good reason to hate you and your friends!

Bye-bye, Republic City! Hello, smoldering hole! Now what are we going to do about all these refugees that escaped?

That's what I don't get. "Oh, these people have the powers to destroy our entire town in a blink of an eye! Let's antagonist them, and hope they won't do the very thing we're afraid they'll do!"

You're missing my point. You claim that the benders saved them ergo they're good people and we should respect them. Yeah a bunch of benders saved them but it was from another group of benders.

Staying on their good side doesn't do anything for you if that bender is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Bending does not come only to good people and it's very easily to use it for immoral purposes.

Benders are a threat plain and simple. I can't exactly get behind what Amon is doing but he raises valid concerns and they have been shown to abuse their powers. If I was living in Republic City and I wasn't a bender I'd probably join the equalists.

Re: The Legend of Korra

^ True, you make a valid point.

It's just that I think antagonizing the very person who could quite literally turn your city into a nuclear hellhole is a very stupid thing to do. They still remember Aang, right? The whole Avatar Reincarnation? You'd think they'd appeal to her to resolve this issue, rather than trying to piss her off. The Avatar, at least, could be trusted to not be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who abuses his/her powers, no?

Not that Korra is going to try and destroy the city, but from what we've seen so far, she's very loyal to her friends, like Aang was, and we know how well HE took it when people threatened his friends.

I think I missed the point there.

But I do know, i'm not a big fan of Bolin.
I think he's kind of annoying. Thank god for Mako.

Ya. So far, Bolin has come across as being just plain stupid to me. I just haven't found him to be all that funny. They're trying to give him phrases and lines that Sokka would say, but it's not really working...

Compared to Sokka, who was usually snarky and sarcastic, Bolin is just way too sincere with what he says to be funny.
I think what Bolin needs is a partner that's funny, but also more mature and snarky than he is, in order for the humour to balance out. Like an R2-D2/C-3PO or Timon/Pumba kind of thing.

Hopefully, this is part of what Asami will bring to the group.

Mako and Bolin used to live in the streets starting at 8 and 6 years old. They were all that they had after their parents were killed in a mugging incident. Bolin got really sad because this little girl had no family left all, and in turn also made him feel extremely appreciative of all that Mako has done for him (getting them food, shelter, looking out for him, etc.).

Think of Bolin as the well meaning little brother. Sure, he can be annoying sometimes, but he's sweet, empathetic, and fun at heart. I found him to be a bit of a pain in episode 2, but he's really starting to grow on me. I feel that Mako and Bolin (along with Korra) are going to go through some beautiful character development, and that's actually the thing that I'm most excited about other than the theorized incident of Korra losing her bending.

Re: The Legend of Korra

I actually like Bolin. While sometimes I think he could potentially get annoying from time to time. I do like him so far.

I... I... must not google those spoilers

*starts typing into google* No! Bad hands bad! I must not spoil myself. Not this time. Hell no.

...

I hate when these kind of leaks happen. I mean hey I don't mind when like something about next week's episode is leaked. But... you know. Not a big season/series spoiler.
The temptation is just to great for me.

But I must stand strong!

I hearby vow to not look at any series spoilers. I will watch each episode in order, and not give into any temptation that comes my way.

But ya, I watched episode 4. Couldn't resist that. >_<

Bolin has officially grown on me.

I don't know why, but I liked Avatar: The Last Airbender better. Maybe it was my obsession with Zuko...

Re: The Legend of Korra

I honestly like this far better than Last Airbender. I am partial to steampunk, however. Aang annoyed me with his carelessness, and Korra appears to have a smarter (if more cocky) head on her shoulders.

Re: The Legend of Korra

I think it definitely has a stronger start than the original series.

But I still like the original series more at this point.
Afterall, I did have 60 episodes to judge that one. I've only got 3 to go on with this one.

Re: The Legend of Korra

I wonder if the people who think Bolin is annoying thought Aang was annoying at first, since they seem a lot alike. I like all the characters so far. This is starting off as quite the interesting series.

I like how Amon is using energy bending to take away powers instead of just committing mass murder. Much more sympathetic to non benders, since most aren't going to think this is a big deal. Though how he found out how to use energy bending is curious.
