[TV] The Legend of Korra

I just tried to compile it all, but my head exploded in the process. This is all looking very, very promising though. I CAN'T WAIT! The trailer will be uploaded to the internet soon.

-Aang finds a herd of sky bison after the war
- Metalbender cops
- Toph's daughter is chief of police
- The two guys ARE BROTHERS; Mako(fire) Bolin(earth)
- antibenders use chi blocking

That artwork looks freaking amazing. Korra looks like a complete badass. Oh and that Sokka like character should be fun.

Wow, sure looks like society evolved pretty quickly if this only takes place 70 years after the original. The buildings, clothing and technology look very modern - almost too modern imo.

The animation looks good as usual. The background art is better than ever.

Seeing all of that concept art kind of worries me though; that it'll basically be the like the last one with a new coat of paint. I can already see the bear dog and red panda replacing the momo and sky bison roles. And I can totally picture Mako taking Zuko's spot as the badass/angsty/good-looking character. Not sure about the short pudgy one though, but his looks and demeanor definitely reminds me of Iroh.


But I do like Korra, she'll have a personality that's very different from Aang's that's for sure. And I love all of the risks that they're taking with her character and design. She looks very tough and... err... butch. Quite a contrast from all of the skinny, pretty, snarky and unrealistic female protagonists that you see in most fantasy or action fare.

Honestly I think the new characters are wonderful, and they all seem new to me. Mako, while looking like Zuko, is probably going to have more of a strong and silent personality. Also, if I remember correctly his voice actor, David Faustino, once described him as a confident ladies man, so no, he's NOTHING like Zuko =P. Bolin, considering that in a drawing that was shown at the panel he was reading a book on "how to get a girl" or something like that, he will probably be really, really awkward. Also, just from the three words he said at the end of the trailer he will definitely be the Sokka of the show.

As for Tenzin, I'm thinking that he would be like Iroh, but I'm doubting it considering that Mike and Bryan are too creative to recycle characters (not that I would mind it if they did. I love me some Iroh )

And honestly I don't think that this is too modern. The Fire Nation was already in the middle of an industrial revolution in the original show. I mean for god's sake 70 years ago they had tanks, airships, coal burning warships, submarines, the basic idea of tram systems, etc. Quite frankly, this progression makes complete sense to me. After all, we went from horse and carriage to planes (not commercially, of course), trains, and automobiles in less than 70 years. Also, the skyscrapers make total sense to me because of Earthbending.

Zuko was also the strong silent type in the original.


But that's what's bugging me. I'm seeing the same character archetypes, but with a different coat of paint. I mean do we really need another giant animal companion that acts as Korra's primary mode for transportation? How about a human navigator that's a close friend of Korra's, and they travel around the world in some air balloon or water boat that functions on bending energy or something like that for example? Or a shady character that joins the team only to achieve his own means, and specializes in fraud, conning and deceit rather than combat or bending? And what's the point of the red panda filling up the "cute n' cuddly" Momo rule? Momo didn't do ♥♥♥♥ in the original show, I see no point of having another one if it's just there to look cute.

Perhaps I'm just extremely picky... :/

Not really. Generally Zuko was very loud, angry, and angsty for most of the first season. Then in seasons 2 and 3 he became more sweet and awkward, and more toward that kind of strong and silent archetype that you're talking about. But what I'm trying to say is that this guy seems like he'll be calm, collected, and cool. And, as I said, he's apparently very good with the ladies. Zuko is not good with the ladies. Case in point

I saw CARS. Just 70 years after the age they were in? I think they ay have went a bit too far on technology, but other than that, I can NOT WAIT to see this. Still stupid that it's called The Last Airbender, but oh well. I'm very excited to see the metalbending cops

I'm beginning to worry that they're going to put this on Nicktoons, because this is only mentioned on the Nicktoons website and it is completely ignored on the main Nickelodeon website. Putting it on the Nicktoons channel will severely limit their viewer base, and will also not allow me to watch it without torrenting the episodes as they come out. Hopefully they realize that not putting it on their main channel would be suicide, or else I'm going to lose my mind.

Edit: In other news, apparently during the panel Mike and Bryan stated that they want the show to be rated PG. You know what that means? All of the things that were restricted in the last show, like showing death, guns, blood, and other things? Everything except for gore, excessive blood, vulgar language, and sexual content will be fair game, or at least they will be according to my understanding of the rating system.

anyway i can't wait for this, personally i really like where they are going with the technology in the show, i mean the Fire nation probably helped to rebuild the other nation after the war and gave them the boost in the technology(cause they already had all those vehicles in the fire nation).

And when i was watching the trailer it felt like(to me) that it looked more like a traditional anime from Japan with where the action was heading and the scenes i saw, but it could just be me.

I have never watched Avatar: The Last Airbender. Now that I've seen the trailer for this series that's getting rectified before it comes out. That looked awesome.

Let me tell you this: even if starts off shaky, you will be hooked by the season 1 finale. I promise. Unless it's just not your thing, in which case I'm pretty sure the new show will not require you to watch the original series, if I remember an interview correctly.

Zuko sucked with the ladies. He dates what? Two girls? And one of them was just one night, before everything went wrong. =/ And then Mae.... xD

I don't mind a Zuko-esque character, though; so long as he's nothing like the original. I'd like a mix of Zuko and Sokka. That would be awesome... dunno how they'd do it, though.

Metalbending cops will be awesome. I don't think they went too far, though; there are benders remember? They can do everything twice as fast as we normally can (with metal, earth, etc.). I think it's pretty realistic, given that bending allows them to advance quicker.

I don't think you would. It takes place 70 years after the original, but it could reference the first one (I.E. Aang, etc.).
