As confusing as the airing order is, the experience of watching it in that order is closer to the experience you would get reading the light novel series. The books were published in a kind of achronological format...which is to say, events are kind of all over the place. Tanigawa simply inserts events into the timeline as he pleases, to go along with the chaotic theme of the stories. it's all narrated from Kyon's point of view, so its like Kyon is tell you stories as he remembers them, rather than in any particular order.
