Are Blur and Gorillaz both finished?

No. That comes from an article which was an interesting take on a very long conversation. I don’t know how we’ll feel when we play Hyde Park. Some days I feel one way and other days I feel the other. If you don’t see something as a career but as an important part of your life, you don’t know how you’re going to feel about it. We want to put on a great performance but nothing’s been said between us about the beginning or the end.

What about Gorillaz?

When Jamie [Hewlett] and I have worked out our differences, I’m sure we’ll make another record.

Will that be difficult?

I don’t think so. We’ve been through too much together for it to be that big of a mountain to climb. We’ve just fallen out like mates do sometimes. I’m not the only person to fall out with mates and then make up again – everyone does it.

AND Jack White is going to be scoring the upcoming Lone Ranger film directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Johnny Depp. I am excited to see what he comes up with. I picked up Blunderbuss yesterday and though I've only listened to it once, I'm quite pleased. Might post more in-depth impressions later.

Have any of you checked out Jack White's new solo album, Blunderbuss? I gave it a listen to earlier today and I was rather impressed. Gonna have to listen to it some more.

yep, i've checked out some tracks and i'm really likin' it. i do love that man.

it's not what i expected but i like it. i expect some of the tracks will warm on me over time.

Jack White? I like Jack Black's music though. Only that the swearing parts make me cringe

thoughts on Blunderbuss:

More or less in line with what I was hoping for and expecting. Jack White has always been a guy who likes to mostly play around in the blue rock/garage rock sandboxes, and he mostly sticks to that on his debut solo record, but you can also hear where he manages to stretch his creativity just a bit further than he was able to do in The White Stripes or any of his various other projects.

Most of the tracks are solid, ranging from good to great. A few of the more slower ballad-esque tracks aren't my favourites, mostly because I don't think many of them match up to the similar tracks White did with Meg ("We Are Gonna Be Friends," "You've Got Her in Your Pocket") but by and large this is a solid record from start to finish. Especially the start and the finish. The organ on "Missing Piece" and the gospel backing vocals on "Take Me with You When You Go" are two of my favourite elements on the entire record.

Other high points for me are the "I'm Shakin'" cover, with it's crunchy guitar tone and another appearance of fantastic backing vocals. The almost piano on "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" is another favourite of mine, starting out and interluding almost waltz-like, but taking on an almost ragtime like quality for the rest of the song. In fact, while Jack White is certainly no slouch on the guitar, I think the keys are the real starts of Blunderbuss.

It's also a pleasant surprise that both singles released so far, "Love Interruption" and "Sixteen Saltines," are two of the stronger album tracks, the latter probably being the most White Stripes-like song on the whole record.

For fans of Jack White and any of his other side projects, this is a must-listen. After four or five listens I'd give Blunderbuss a solid 7.5/10 and easily one of the strongest releases I've heard so far this year.

New Gaslight Anthem single inbound

It's pretty popish and his voice is surprisingly clear. Not bad at all though also kinda gives me a classic rock feel. More so than normally.
