I didn't get enough post rock this year, didn't keep my finger close enough to the pulse. Other than And So I Watch You From Afar and This Will Destroy You (which I haven't even listened to yet) and Mogwai (which I never actually ended up buying, even though I should), I got nothin from this year.

im still like understanding the subtleties and differences of post and progressive rock. A lot of Mogwai's songs sound like that to me.

on the topic of mogwai though I picked up Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will and the Earth Division EP. good stuff! Good relases from this year.

The biggest give-aways for post rock tend to be few or no lyrics and a lack of verse-chorus song structure. The ambiance of the song you posted is pretty reminiscent of post rock, so there's definitely some influence going on there.

Friend of the Night is probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

you may have...but keep in mind we're both hip.

i take it back. Miracles is a legit song with a legit video and everyone's hip would greatly benefit from embedding it regularly.

nolan the thing about no-man is, though they're not explicitly post rock, half or more of their songs lack any and all verse-chorus structure. There's still a significant amount of .... structure, but it's very loose, improvisational, and flowing. A few of them have no lyrics at all.

its like ultra-modern progressive rock but... post rock is kinda that too, with a little less structure and a little more minimalism

Definitely sounds like there's a lot of influence from post rock, then. Arab Strap is kind of the same way.

One could say that I'm biased because they are my friends, but their piece Tystnaden is absolutely fantastic to me. ♥

ehhhh bridge was the best part for me.

probably their worst song to date. The beat was ehh and the overlapping vocals kinda annoyed me.

Still I'm excited for the album and will play the ♥♥♥♥ out of it regardless.
