One of these four women will most likely be taking the only other large female roll (aside from ScarJo as Black Widow) in the movie to round out the cast. It's apparently Nick Fury's assistant, according to Sam L. Jackson. Maybe a Maria Hill type?
Mike Fleming over at Deadline is saying that Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) is the front-runner to play the last major role. If he is to believed, I am a super-genius and got it right when I speculated the role would be Maria Hill, who in the comics ran S.H.I.E.L.D. between Nick Fury and Tony Stark.
He also says that Smulders was on Whedon's radar before to play Wonder Woman when he was attached to that project.
There should be an official announcement on the casting before the end of the weekend.
To preface: I would still call this a rumour, but Ain't It Cool picked it up and it would make me really excited if it were true.
Apparently Marvel shot a specific teaser for the movie, probably to attach to Captain America or Thor. AIC says that teaser will feature Loki, but Latino Review is taking it further and saying that the film will feature the Skrulls as well.
Almost any other director I might be nervous about that. But Joss Whedon could knock this out of the park.
I have to say I have always been a big fan of The Avengers and if this movie flops I will be very disappointed. I am very grateful that they are using some of the actors from the independent Super hero movies instead of just trying to recast everyone.
Post Script: Even though Hawkeye is my favorite Avenger I have to say the actor casted for him (at least in that picture ) looks for mentally challenged !
One, Loki will not be a villain or the villain in the movie at all as previously speculated.
Secondly, in an interview while doing pretty for Thor Chris Hemsworth assured fans that the movie will pay due service to each of its heroes, not just focus on one or two. Which is pretty much what I was expecting based on Joss' history with ensembles.
