The way I laid it out in the first post is that every rank corresponds to a number of points. So at the end the points are totaled and then rank is assigned to each album.

Though like I've said, its likely that there's going to be a lot of ties and whatnot, because I don't expect too many repeats.

I'm open to other methods that may be better, though.

Doesn't that require albums to be submitted more than once?

The more crossover there is, the better, which is why it might not be the best system in this case. But I can't think of any other effective way to do it, really.

Won't it only really work if everyone has heard every album that is nominated, so that every album has a fair shot of getting a vote?

This is Google Moderator. How it works is that, when you visit the page it picks a random idea (album in our case) and lets you vote for or against it, or hold your vote. This way, voting for your own albums will be leveled out because you can vote against other people's albums, and you can't vote for the same album twice. (When you submit your album that counts as a vote for it.)

It also allows embedded Youtube videos, where you can link to songs from the album so that people can get an idea of how it sounds before they vote. This is very similar (and possibly the same technology) which the Obama administration used on Change.gov when they polled the Internet to find out what issues mattered to them, and the same software Google used when they asked the Internet how to improve broadband Internet connections.

Hm. Well that sounds pretty viable. I'll fiddle around with it some tonight/tomorrow and get a feel for it.

Anyone else want to chime in? Does this system sound better than the one laid out in the first post?

This will at least give people something to play with so that we can get a feel for the Moderator system.

EDIT: also, if we're using this system there's no point to the album limit/minimum of 15. We can just submit as many or as little albums as we want.

Guys, we can pretty much eliminate ties by using a point system. #1 is 20 points, #2 is 19, #3 is 18, then #20 is 1 point.

Except that, considering the amount of albums ever... there won't be many duplicates, so we'll see many albums with 20 points, 19 points, 18, 17, 16, etc... all tied.

Just to let you know, I've posted my entries with artist first, followed by album.
