The In Character Thread: One More Time

"No...I guess you can't. And I was thinking something along these lines," Falenor said, letting an electric charge go flying towards the reflective energy field. Predictably, it merely bounced off. "Ah, I thought so. As for blueprints...I'd think there would be some copy of them in storage in the future. So all you'd have to do is run the data through your system a few times and I'd be able to pick those up. However the point is moot since you're not planning to."

"Good to see the reflective energy shield is still working as it should. And yes, I don't think it would be a good idea to give you such blueprints. So, you didn't answer earlier when I asked; what would you do if you could time travel? Explore the past? Try to change the course of history?"

"Now why would I do that? History panned out the way it did, and I've done enough chaos theory to be wary of that. No, I'd probably work out some way to observe past events without actually interacting with them. Or perhaps take a peek at the future...either way, not actually doing anything unless I know what I'm doing. Which I won't."

"Meow. Meooooowwww."

"Ah, yes, indeed. Changing the past could cause some serious problems to the present time. It seems that time travel doesn't work that way though, at least not with our current technology. I could go back and attempt to change history quite drastically, but it never seems to affect the present. My theory for this is that whenever I use the chronoportation device, I end up in a sort of alternate universe. It's theorized, after all, that there are infinite alternate universes for each possible decision. Thus, anything I do in the alternate universe bears no effect on the actual universe.

"While I suppose that answers most of the paradoxes, it still leaves room for more. You, for instance, will have to live the rest of your life wondering if you're actually an alternate dimension version of yourself...

"Also, interestingly enough, the chronoportation device can't go forward; into the future. Something to do with the fact that it simply hasn't happened yet, I guess. I would like to take a peek at the future as well, but I suppose the best I can do is estimate what it will be like.

"Of course, I'm technically immortal anyway, so I'll probably be able to see the world to its end."

"Ah...curious. So it wouldn't actually take you into the past, but rather some sort of simulation of the past? Interesting, all of it. You'll have to explain it sometime-" Falenor's voice broke off in shock as he heard what sounded like some sort of cat. Spinning around to find the source of the sound, he held his staff up and waited.

"Well, I wouldn't say simulation. More of an alternate, but just as real, dimension. Like I said though, it's mearly a theory." ISAAC looked at the cat. "Interesting. There are quite a few interesting individuals here. I noticed that car over there, it seems to be artificially intelligent as well. Now we have a cat..."

"Yes...this place seems to be attracting beings of an...interesting nature. I couldn't say why...perhaps it has something to do with the station or something. I really should look into it at some point. Now you mentioned plasma weapons before, is that as in superheated matter firing or some other futuristic meaning?"

Anna walked out into the hallway from the Hyrule teleporter. "It's quiet in here," she commented, looking around the station. "And I haven't seen Vitros or Radkin around here in a while. Oh well," she sighed, going to the bar area and sitting down.

"Ah, yes, plasma. The weapons of the future. Plasma is basically a mixture of ionized gases. In weapon form we keep the ionized gas under pressure in small canisters, and energize them. Special weapons can then fire the plasma through the air. Depending on what mixtures of gases are used in the plasma, it will take on different colors and different properties."

"That depends on what you're used to. If you spend your life in silence and solitude, this sort of noise level can seem positively deafening," Falenor said, turning to face the woman who had just appeared out of the teleporter. "But yes, by normal standards, I guess you would say it's quiet," he continued, concentrating on a small region of space in front of him.

"Hmm...but plasma is a separate state of matter from gas, isn't it?" he mused, pulling out another orb as he did so. "You see, this is an orb filled with air in a plasma state. Any ideas of the properties of that?"

"Plasma is considered the fourth state of matter, yes, and is distinct from gas. The definition of plasma is specifically an ionized gas; examples of common plasmas would be lightning and stars. This is all common knowledge, even in this time period." ISAAC took the plasma orb from Falenor. "The properites of this plasma? It's probably not all that dangerous. Ionized air is created all the time, such as during an electric discharge; in fact, I'd think that's probably how you created this plasma orb. Here, let me show you my plasma."

He rested his arm on the table and opened up a compartment under the plasma cannon. He carefully removed the glass canister inside, which was filled with a violet colored plasma. "Careful; this plasma is under a lot of pressure. If that canister so much as cracks, it could vaporize you."

"Hmm, but that's like saying gas is an evaporated liquid. Which it is, but people don't refer to it like that. BUT, this has been formed by large amounts of heat, and naturally is very conductive. Hence it will burn through things and conduct any charge I'd care to pass through it-" Falenor stopped talking abruptly as the canister was placed on the table. He closed his eyes and continued to look at it.

"Fascinating...vaporize, you say? Presumably that only applies to matter, so I doubt it would be a problem, but I'll be careful all the same. So what actual substance is this plasma made from?"
