Searching the Past (HurriPen)

Screams, yelling, and begging for forgiveness. These things were the very things that Kaien could feel and hear. He dove into many things searching their past, but this place; this land that he searched had the same feelings. He could see many parts of this town‘s past, but nothing seemed to catch his eye. Maybe it was the place he was looking through from, but there was nothing great that he wanted to learn about. He watched, almost floating in the air, moving around like a ghost as his real body stayed behind.

Kaien could see many people, but what stood out the most was this little girl. The moonlight seemed to shine down from the heavens pointing at her. She couldn’t have been more than 5 years old in this point of time that he saw her. She hadn’t found out what pain of suffering was and still she was the most interesting thing to Kaien. He stopped time from going as he took a better look at her.

Her bright smile was something Kaien didn’t see much in older people. She looked as if she was free and yet her clothes weren’t new. They were far from new or clean, but he fist thought it to be a brown dress, but he could now see it was covered in dirt. Her hair was long over due for a washing and what he thought was her parents clearly wasn’t.

This little girl was something that caught his eye and he wanted to found out more. He didn’t have time to play games of finding the girl through out history; he was going to need clues to where to see her next. He glanced around the streets trying to found where she might be going he saw a park only a little ways away. “There,” he said pointing to the park.

Kaien came out of the past finding himself back in the middle of a busy sidewalk that he stopped to take a look. Much had changed in this town, but the park was stay there. Kaien lifted his head towards the present day park seeing it rundown, old and no kids playing in it. What a beautiful place that once was.

The awaken stood up, glancing around thinking if he really wanted to chase this girl around Kadeny. The massive city would take sometime to search and he would found out a lot, but Kaien wasn’t sure if he wanted to be trouble by it. While thinking what he’d do next he strolled his way towards the park hoping to have an answer by then.

The young man seemed to define a word that she had encountered back on Earth. It may have been nonsense, but he gave it depth and meaning: uffish. His brow was wrinkled with thought, while his eyes were focused on some vague thing in the distance. Penina knew that he had something on his mind, and whatever it was, it interested her.

She strolled across the grass to Kaien and sat down next to him on the bench. Strangely enough, he did not notice her. Pen waited patiently for him to notice her.

After five minutes, she shoved him violently off the bench. Stunned, Kaien clambered back onto the bench and looked at Ms. Hargreaves for the first time. "I am sorry, but I was . . elsewhere. Excuse my poor behavior."

"Ah, let me guess: astral projection?"

"Of a sort, but in a more useful sense. I peer into the past."

"Hmm. That is interesting. See anything worth seeing in Kadeny?"

"Well, yes. One person has caught my eye."

"Who?"
