Mistaken Identity(Insaney)

Reun and Xen sat under a tree, watching the moon rise over a small village in the kingdom of Abriasia. The stars shone brightly in the sky and the half moon seemed to smile at thel little town. It was a beautiful sight. It was even more wonderful sight for the Elf and wolf.

They had been traveling overseas for several weeks and were glad to get off of the ship. The strange pair left the seaport in a hurry. They where tired of the smell of fish and salt water. Reun and Xen had walked a few hours from the sea port, through the forest, and came upon this village. The village sat in the bottom of a valley, forest on surronded it on all sides.

Reun sighed, "You think this village would be a good place to rest a week or two Xen?" The large wolf looked up at him, "Smell's safe enough pup. The decisions yours to make." Reun nodded, "Fine, then I'm going to go and have something to eat. Do want anything?" The wolf yawned, "Anything but fish." Reun stood up and chuckled, he also couldn't eat fish for a long time.

The Night Elf started to walk down to the village when the wolf called out, "And don't get into any trouble!" Reun only laughed, ignored the wolf, and continued to the village. As Reun got closer to the village he could make out the dark house on the outskirts of the village. He could tell that the center of the village was still awake. Apparently there was a tavern, Reun could see the taverns light brighten up the sleeping village.

Reun walked through the village, passed the log cabin type homes. He noticed that the close he got to the center of town, the houses seemed to be more abundant. Eventually, the houses were side by side and made of brick. Instead of the dirt road he had been previously walking on, he found that he was walking on a cobble road.

The light was getting brighter and brighter, as was the sound. He started to hear music and laughter. Reun turned a corner and found himself infront of the tavern. A sign above the door read "The Broken Bottle". Interesting... Reun pushed his hood up over his head, walked up to the door, and pushed it open.

The tavern was full of life. People eating and drinking at tables. A violin and flute were being played in a corner while couples danced in the middle of the tavern. To the back of the tavern was bar. He walked around the dance floor and sat at the bar. A redheaded barmaid came over to him. "What would you like to order sir?"

Reun rested his elbow's on the bar. "I would like a pint of mead, a steak, and a potatoe." The Barmaid smiled, "Baked or Mashed?" Reun rubbed his right wrist. "Mashed? How about I try that." The Barmaid poured Reun his mead, "Good choice sir, it will be ready soon." The barmaid walked off to the kitchens and Reun turned around with his glass of mead to watch the dancers.

He watched the dancers and listened to the music for a about twenty minutes when the barmaid came back with his meal. He cut into the steak and chewed a couple of bits. Then tentively tried the mashed potatoes. He loved them. Reun finished the last of his potatoes, and started back onto his steak when the bar door opened. He turned around, chewing on a peice of steak, to see who it was.

The man flung himself into the bar, breathing heavily. His eyes were wide and full of fear.

"A demon!" He cried, "There is a demon! It glows! And a human is aiding it! Hurry! We must catch it and burn it before it destroys us all!"

All were silenced in the bar. Suddenly, the person behind the counter pulled the sword he had mounted on the wall.

"Come on!" He shouted at the patrons.

Meanwhile, the 'demon' and her friend were running through the town, they were leaving, running for all they were worth. The night was black, and Arina could not control her incandescent glow. She was wearing a hooded cloak, to block out some of the light. Nevertheless, there was still the mob of people after them. The mob was reinforced with the patrons in the nearby bar. Reun was in the midst of the mob, not actually going along with them, but he just wanted to see the so called 'demon'.

The thick night was torn apart by torches and yells. Raven and Arina had to escape, fast.
They ran through some bushes, to another part of town, where they were met with a dead end, a wall made of people who weilded sickles and rakes. Arina faltered, Raven stood up, and drew his sword. They were surrounded.

"Raven..." Arina whispered, "I have a plan."

Raven nodded. The saurian's wings grew from her back, increasing her glow ten fold. All sheilded the light, Reun let out a small cry when the light suddenly hit him in the face.
Suddenly, the light faded, everyone looked about only to see two figures running away from the crowd. Arina could'nt conceal her wings that quickly, she ran with them folded behind her, letting out an immense glow of white light. They kept running, turning corner after corner.

Meanwhile, Reun had left the group. He had remembered the wolf that he had left waiting.
He walked along, and pondered deeply.

BUMP!

CRASH!

Reun held his head, and got up from the ground. He saw two figures in the darkness, one helping the other up. He took the figure's hand and pulled it up, only to see the hood fall off, revealling a girl, with purple hair and eyes, who emitted a soft-white glow.

"You..?" Reun stuttered.

There was no time to react, the mob had caught up with them. They saw Reun helping the girl. They saw everything. And everyone knew what was coming next.

"Traitor!" The mob stopped thirty feet away, shocked to see one of their own betray them. Getting over their shock, the mob started toward the Raven, Arina, and Reun.

Oh Xen is going to kill me. Reun pulled Arina up onto her feet and shouted, "Run!" Still holding onto Arina, Reun and Raven took off away from the mob. They ran through allyways and jumped over fences, trying there best to evade the mob. After what seemed like ages, they were able to duck in between two houses and rest.

"Why are you helping us?"

Reun looked over at the dark hard youth, sword still drawn. Reun sat on the ground next to Arina and lend against one of the houses. He pulled on the hood of his cloak to make sure that it still covered his face.

Reun chuckled,"Well I don't have much of a choice do I? I just stopped at the inn for a bite to eat. Stupid fish, can never eat another one..."

Raven coundn't keep a serious face and laughed a little. Arina smiled a bit but was still nervous around the stranger.

"We can't stay here. Let's save the introductions for a more suitable time. Follow me." Reun stood up and lead Raven and Arina away from the town. They were almost out of town when Reun noticed Arina's faint glow.

"Does the girl not have a cloak?" Reun brought them behind a house to try and solve Arina's glowing problem.

Raven shook his head. "No, we've lost the last one." Reun cursed under his breath. The needed to cross through the open field where Xen was sleeping under a tree. Reun let out a sigh. "She can take my cloak...Just don't cry out when you see me."

Arina narrowed her eyes, "Why would I...Oh my." Reun had pulled down the hood of his cloak, revealing his elvish features. His cat like eyes gleamed in the moon light. He threw the cloak over Arina, "Like I said earlier. Talk later, escape now."

With that they ran across the field. They where almost to the woods when a gigantic wolf leaped from nowhere and toppled Reun to the ground. Arina cried out and Raven drew his sword, prepared to save the elf. He was about to stab the wolf when he stopped. The wolf was talking.

"You stupid pup. I told you not to get into trouble and now you've brought stray's with you. Why I ought not to rip your throat out you tell me."

Reun threw the wolf of and lifted himself of the ground. "Mind your manners, we'll talk later." Reun looked back to Arina and Raven and bowed.

"I am Reun Taer'Nul and this is my companion Xen. It is nice to meet you."

Raven's eyes were wide, forcing the night to shed some light with his eyes, he stuttered;

"The wolf... the wolf can... talk?!"

"It is better to recieve an introduction, with an introduction." The wolf replied haughtily.

"We...we're sorry," Arina replied, "I am Arina."

She bowed to the two strangers, her wings were still showing, glowing mockingly at the night.
She lifted herself up to see the wolf eying her strangely. The glowing wings accompanied ber her glow itself was enough to convince anyone that she was a glorified angel. The wolf's eyes were wide, amazement and curiosity etched into his furry face.

"An... angel.... here? Wha-? How?"

"She's no angel." Raven jacked the conversation quickly, to guide the wolf away from the thought of Arina being an angel, he continued.

"She's a Saurian girl. She was born with the power to turn into a bird. In Arina's case, a falcon."

"But... but," Xen stuttered, "how is she able to glow like a heavenly being?"

Arina answered the question shyly.

"Even I, I don't know how. I was born with the glow... "

"Oh... and you, young man with the sword-"

"Oh how rude of me, the runaway knight of Taraine, Raven."

Raven bowed while he was speaking.

"A knight? What good is a knight without a kingdom serve?" Xen asked dryly.

Arina jumped in, defending the young knight with her words.

"Leave him alone, he's protected me thus far! I'd say he is a great knight!"

Reun was just standing there, all the time, listening intentively to the conversation. He had nothing really to say, he was just listening. Xen was the only one that remembered.

"Whatever you say miss, " He responded to Arina, still entranced by her glow, "Reun, why were you running?"

All three of them were knocked back to their surroundings by a heavy blow to the mind's eye. Raven's mouth gaped, Arina gasped and Reun's cat-like eyes widened.

"The mob!" Reun shouted a whisper, "They may be still looking for us! We must find a place to hide!"

"What mob!?" Xen cried.

"A mob that thought Arina was a demon because she glowed," Raven answered, "Reun's right, we have to hide."

The wolf drawled out his next sentence, making Arina and Raven chuckle a bit.

"Well... they obviously cannot distinguish between an Angel and a Demon..."

Suddenly, movements were heard from the village's direction, the mob was catching up with the group.

"They're coming!" Raven whispered, Arina lent her hand, he took it, "We have to leave, now."

Arina started to wimper. Reun could see that his new friends were exhausted and he got an idea.

"We have to leave this place. We should go into the forest and hide, maybe try another village." Raven spoke, his voice sad yet hinted anger. Arina was on the verge of tears, and it was all she could do to not cry. Reun looked at Xen and grinned.

"Why do we have to go anywhere now. Not when we have this beautiful tree, natures natural house." The two weary travelers looked at Reun, confusiong written on their faces.

Xen stood up on all fours and spoke, "Hurry, the humans draw closer." Everyone looked back at the town. Sure enough, the search parties where coming closer and time was running short.

"I don't have enough time to explain, Xen come back to the tree when I call."

The wolf nodded its head and dissappeared into the darkness. Reun turned back to Raven and Arina.

"I don't know how long I can hold this spell to support all of us, but I'll try." He pointed at the tree. "Into the tree and I will make us silent to all but ourselves."

Raven and Arina looked at each other, a little skeptical, but obediantly climbed up the tree. They got up and waited quietly in the branches of the tree. Arina sat on a brance above Raven and Reun. A few silent minutes passed as they watched one of the torches come closer and closer. Reun decided it was time and he softly spoke the incantation, "Selo Arina, Raven Votra."

The search party stopped at the base of the tree, not daring to go any farther. One of the men spoke, "The must have returned to Him."

"Him?" Reun spoke loudly. "I wound who He is." Arina looked at Reun horrified, Raven glarred at Reun and placed a finger over his lips to indicate 'be quiet'.

Reun laughed out loud, but was almost immediatly drowned out by a terrifiying scream...

Edit:Yeah, I was really tired when I wrote this, my parents where also rushing me. I fixed mistakes though!

The scream rose in pitch. It sounded like a woman's voice far off in the distance. Those that sat in the tree were shushed by the scream. Below them, the townspeople were muttering amoung themselves as to the source of the wail.

"The demon was a girl! Someone must have caught her. Come on!"

With that, the group moved away from under the tree. They were moving at a steady pace.
Raven let out a breath of air. Arina started to breathe again. Only the sound of the screams in the distance were heard, until the night elf broke the silence.

"What is that?"

Raven shrugged, Arina was too scared to say anything. They sat in the tree for a few more minutes, fearing that someone might be nearby. The screams kept raising in pitch.

"Maybe we should follow them." Raven started to climb down from the tree, "someone may need help."

"He's right," Arina whispered, still scared of what had happened and what is happening.

Her glow increased tenfold, sending a wailing Reun hurtling from the branch. The light was too much for him, he hit the ground and covered his eyes. Arina's wings sprouted from her back, and slowly grew. She stopped the transformation midway, and flew down towards the injured Reun. When she landed, she retracter her wings, sucking them back into her body.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Reun responded, uncovering his eyes, "come on."

Reun got up, and called for the wolf. Xen slipped out of the shadows.

"I heard everything just now. Let's go."

Reun dusted himself off as the group made their way towards the directions of the screams. Raven took off his red cape and draped it around the girl, she was still frightened, and the night sent unnatural shivers down everyones spine.
