I can't see Mr Spork, Wolf Odonnell, or Hyrule's sigs. =/

Everyone else did a terrific job though.

I don't think I'm going to take part in this contest any more. After this weeks problems (no blame to anyone), and not really coming close to winning any time, I don't see much point.

Thanks anyway though guys.

I've been semi-boycotting it as well. Frankly, I think that the abstract, video game logos, and now the pre-chosen image themes are pretty fail for me. And as for the Nintendo DS one, I had some trouble with it and I think I ended up being the only entrant who didn't just use the handheld in the sig anyway.
I also skipped Usernames and Role Playing Games.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

I honestly don't care what the theme is. For the last few weeks, I've looked at the theme and gone, "****, how the hell am I going to do this," and I just think about it for a while. I think the only time I skipped something was the SotW banner, but that was because I was trying to catch up with my sig shop (oh, and when I was on vacation, but that explains itself). I'm diggin' the themes.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

So you two are quitting the entire competition because of the themes? That seems a terribly short-sighted reason to boycott the entire signature contest. Also, if you can't think up anything creative at all for "abstract", I think you must be deficient of any and all creative power. If that's true, you have no place making forum signatures anyways.

yeah

I'm using a C4D for this one, dunno why, felt like it.

My last one was a sprite sig, frozen.

also as a note - gkang, if one of the reasons that you're quitting is because you aren't winning, you should uninstall photoshop right this very moment

who cares about winning in signature competitions? it's all about fun and learning to be more proficient and creative, but obviously neither or those things matter to you

sorry if im misinterpreting, but srsly man

I have a sig shop to attend to, so that's a lot of practice as it is :> But to me, in competitions, it doesn't feel too great to be a constant loser.

In reality, it isn't exactly a big deal. It's not like I'm quitting a high up job, because someone called me a bum bum.

Also: bold = :/

GKANG: I'm just happy people voted for me this time, I don't care if I don't win, at least I get to see what people think of my signatures, I don't have a sig shop, so I can make some without wasting time, because lots of sigs requested to you is hard enough.

CWP: If you're not happy with the themes, suggesting some could probably help.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

I am in agreement with Pani, if you don't like the themes that are being suggested then the best thing to do would be to suggest some.

As for whether the themes are good or bad presently, I've never really understood how a theme could be good or bad anyway. Some you can struggle with , but I wouldn't say that's the fault of the theme itself. The theme is merely the starting point. It's a direction to head in, but there's an awful lot of room to explore in getting there. It's a struggle to see how you'll do it occasionally but it's good to struggle sometimes, you've gotta work those creative muscles overtime which can only be a good thing in the long run.

For the DS one, I was having real trouble coming up with something but was determined to create something. I did create something and was quite pleased as in the process I learned a few tips and techniques that I hadn't used before. Now I'm more equipped for when I want to do some art and for upcoming Signature of the Week contests.

And if the theme doesn't interest you then just come back next week and see what's on offer. Or see what people did come up with from that theme. I'd wager that many of us are here to learn from each other, but if you stick only to what you know and what you like then you won't learn much.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

I was thinking, since I voted in the monthly art competition, that SotW should take a page out of their book. What I mean is, give reasons for your votes, and why you like the ones you chose. This way, it can give a good insight to the sig maker, and let them know what they're doing right. It wouldn't be required to write 10 lines or anything, just a comment or two for each vote. Right now, its been stripped down to the bare bones - 'this, this and this'. It would make the voting thread far more interesting to read through, whilst still being as productive as ever.

What do you guys think?

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

I wouldn't make it a necessity, because that would probably discourage people who don't do that much in GD except vote and lurk. People are pretty much always welcome to make comments here or in the voting thread.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

I think it'd lead to a lot of bickering for what should be good fun and a learning experience. Ideally, it could be constructive and insightful, yes, but only if people consistently put effort and thoughts into their votes, and I think that's expecting too much.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

Some feedback won't hurt, I think, though would that mean critique as well as what you like? Because critique, like Brandon said, could lead to fighting because we've all seen that some people can't take losing/critism. As much as I'd like for people to open minded on such matters, that ain't always the case. However, some positive feedback would be good, I think! And, no, like Panixx0rz said, it should remain optional, though, personally, I wouldn't mind hearing the good and the bad--I want to get better at what I do (:

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

I seem to recall that we used to be able to describe why we voted for who we voted for in the voting threads, but that was cut out or something. It would be great to see that return, so why not?

As long as the threads don't get spammed up with responses to people's opinions (that can be taken to here or VMs/PMs), I can't see why not.

Re: SotW and WPotM: Discussion Thread: OLDER THAN BEEJAY

Well, the strict rule of making three votes only, no chat, would still apply. Only now, you'd say why you chose the specific three sigs. No replying to each other, no criticism (constructive or not), no spam.

Also, it has been mentioned before, but I like the addition of sending out a summary of the results to everyone who entered the competition.
