That's the point, though! The point is to make the ZUCast fun to listen to, yet still informational. It's not supposed to be like those other podcasts where you listen to a couple people just talk about one or two things for an hour and you fall asleep or just take it off of iTunes and/or your iPod. I hate those things.

I was making a suggestion. All of it. If you cannot handle that, do not make a discussion and feedback thread. If I can't make feedback, we cannot improve the quality of the podcast, then we truly can't get past the racism.
If it was truly horifying what he said, more people would be complaining.

Okay. You win. It wasn't racist at all. Yeah the DSi, love to hear what the blacks think about it without booty. Nice one. Don't think it bothers you but I won't be listening to the podcast until its racism free, and I will mind myself never to give feedback again.

I wonder what would happen if Margar aired that comment on her radio station.

But it sounds like it's aimed towards 13yr olds when most of active ZU are 16-25.

A political spoof a la The Onion is hardly 13-year old-aimed.

We're trying. this last cast was particularly tough, since we had setbacks with the zelda news and the theorizing debate.

Oh great, did somebody got offended over humor and satire? If I had a mircophone (a good one, mind you), I show ya there's more to be offended than just jokes alone.

Finally got my violin string fixed. So, you guys wanna hear "Gannondorf's Theme" or "Zelda's Theme" for the next podcast? (Yes Marget, I will be nice enough to offer my skills like you asked in the past).

This thread is ludicrous!

It should be renamed: "Get shut down if you have a serious suggestion, we'll defend our own backsides from any feedback you make - unless you can tell us you love us in which case we're more than happy to hear from you. Watch out if you have a soft spot for racism because we just don't care about you."
I suppose that name's a bit too long. Why don't you try abbreviating it to
STFU, or "No Feedback Allowed". So much for a community podcast.
And a political spoof? Bunch of nonsense. Certainly not defendable as "mature" content. Its definitely 13 year old bollocks even if the author isn't that age.

I'm not trying to pick apart the podcasts, but since my first suggestion I've been met only with contempt and disrespect. It's hardly welcoming. Anyway I've stated my case. If you want to be silly about it then I guess the podcast IS made for thirteen-year-olds. I'll come back when you haven't abandoned reason and fairness.

Re: [ZUBC] Podcast Discussion and Feedback- Read opening post please!!!

I myself am only 14 years old, but Sabooru does have a point. There should be some content that would appeal more to an older age group, yet still be appropriate for 12- or 13-year olds. I had never thought of this before. It does seem a bit unfair to those that would like a bit more seriousness (which of course is not me!) and maturity in at least some parts of the podcast. Maybe it is something to think about.

So far, IMO, I have not been contemptuous or disrespectful towards you at all. You seem to think that the lack of immediate appology and compliance with your requests = disrespect. I have not attacked you personally, unlike your approach thus far.

All I'm saying is that a political spoof (how many 13 year olds care about british-Swiss international relations?), plus comedy bits which contain "questionable" content, are certainly not "aimed at 13-year-olds" as you say. Why does the podcast sound like it's "aimed at" 13 year olds? We aim at all zelda fans, young and old.

I simply don't understand what's "13-year-old-ish" about the podcast. (the chat about Link's love life is the one exception i can admit)
I'm not throwing out your opinion, I just wish you could explain the reasoning behind your opinion in a way that makes sense to me.

Keep in mind that we had setbacks in this month's podcast, and what we presented was not what we had planned. we had to improvise. Therefor, it was not an optimal product. We have had a serious overhaul in ZUBC leadership and production process since the first incarnation of the podcast last year (Have you listened to any of the old podcasts, BTW?), And we're constantly growing and working on improving.

Please take into consideration the fact that any sort of "show" or program cannot please everyone. You may think that the community-focus is lame and want more hard zelda-coverage. So we could do that and the next month, some other dude would complain that it was too dry. That's just an example. You can't make everyone happy because everyone likes different things. If it wasn't you with a discrepancy, it'd be someone else. This was only our second podcast with our new team, and we just need to continue to do the cast, evolve, and over time we'll hit on the right combination. In the meantime, be patient and don't crucify us for being human (and admitedly, a little protective of our baby )

As for the racism/sexism thing, I can understand why that segment could ruffle some feathers. I really do. But humor, as with any past time or form of entertainment, is subjective. Humer is Hyperbole. when you hear a race-oriented joke, it's not because the comedian hates other races, it's just a device of comedy. We'll certainly be more sensitive to this kind of thing in the future. We're not totally oblivious to the fact that that sort of comedy might ruffle a few feathers. But what's comedy without risk? Boring! What's outrageous to one, may be totally tame to another. Sorry to offend, but all we can do is look ahead.

SO THERE!

It's lots of things for me. Not necessarily the content, but the way it's presented. If you put the Teddybear's Picnic behind the whole thing I wouldn't tell the difference. I guess it's because the whole thing is trying to be funny. There aren't any parts at all really that are neutral or serious.

Basically, in other podcasts the people presenting just talk about what they are, and funny parts pop up out of nowhere and seem natural. I'm not getting that from the ZU cast. It's coming across like you really, really want this to be enjoyable to listen to and have it be humorous as well, but trying too hard is making it all seem "YEEEY, so, ovver to the news!". Still, I don't know. It just feels kinda Sesame Street to me.

hmmmm... I think I see what you mean. It's weird though... Maybe me and connor are just silly people? I mean, Connor has buckets of energy and is generally like "WHEEE!" all the time, irl... and I can be like that or calm, cool, and "normal" too, but put me on a mic with someone with energy like Connor's and it rubs off on me.

I think we need to work on being more natural. Personally, I have no problem being natural on a mic, because I do it for a living, but I don't want to have my proffessional approach look awkward next to Connors, so I might "undercompensate"...

But in the end I think it boils down to me and Connor needing to be very familiar with the material we're covering so that we CAN be natural and let the natural funny come out as it will, rather than sounding forced or "showy". Am I on the right track here?

Thanks for trying to shed some light on the matter

Yes yes yes! :>

But on the other hand, if you try and make it more serious or whatever, no doubt people will complain, so I have no idea what can be done. But yes, more natural and less showy would help a lot. Of course, that will just develop over time no doubt.

Power Shot thanks everyone for all their concerns regarding whether or not he is a racist. Let me clear the air by announcing that I am not racist. To be racist you need to love a particular kind of people and I hate them all! I wonder if anyone would mind if I totally blasted white people in the next PodCast.

Oh well, I am blasting Twilight, so I guess the next group to be offended will be albinos. And women.

However, I will say that my political segment took so much research I actually yawned during the making of it.

I want to make this clear: I wasn't talking about you Margar. Your part in the podcast is only part that really goes down well in my ears. Obviously thats because you're a pro radio broadcaster but Lunk kind of drowns you out with his "yeeey"ness. The other posters here have been disagreeable - I think you are the first person who is actually a proper part of the podcast to respond. I'm not too sure.

Anyway I'm not trying to crucify anybody I'm just trying to make a point. The young-air doesn't bother me too much, it irks me, but the real issue is the racism. Questionable humour is not quality humour.

Nobody wants to hear bad news but I'm just writing the hard facts. If you don't agree, host a poll. I know that its racist and -if it ends up that 13 year olds are the main target- its definitely the wrong message to be sending to that generation. No mention of it at all is optimal. The cheapest comedians fall back to dirty joke junk. But I like to think that ZU-ers are much more broad and deep thinkers.
Am I right?

1000 posts woot! Haha took me a few years.

To PoweShot
Yes I would mind if you blasted white people.
Please don't. Its a Zelda Podcast not a racism podcast.
