Another ZU Charity Event

Hi hi hi, community coordinators!

Just gonna quote a PM I sent to Kassi due to laziness.
Quote:
Reading through Duncan's thread in General Chit-Chat got me wondering if there was anything we could do to help, aside from just posting our memories and thoughts in the thread. So I got to thinking if we could set up another charity drive in Duncan's name, and donate all the proceeds to cancer research.

Yes? No? Just throwing it out there. If it goes through I can't possibly run it by myself, which is why I'm PMing you.
I'm thinking this would run sort of like Heartpiece, but there's no way I can run it on my own. One of the main things we would need is a PayPal account or something that the donations can be sent to, and I can't take care of that myself. I'm not sure who was doing that for Heartpiece, but if they could do it again for this it would be fantastic.

All I need are ideas and generally if you'd be interested in helping/donating. If the idea gets positive feedback, then I'll send it over to Community Central and we can start. :3

Re: Another ZU Charity Event

Hey, Pani.

This could be another division of HeartPiece. Heartpiece wasn't supposed to be a one-time thing. The pilot didn't do too well, but this is definitely a very appropriate project for it to take part of.

Maybe we can make cute little buttons for people to put in their sigs saying something like "I donated through Heart Piece!"

Anyways, I found a resource where you can create a widgit for the specific charity you want to donate to. I'll send you that information shortly (ie, if/when I can find it).

Again, absolutely love the idea, and I think it's wonderfully appropriate! I'll be here to help out. =)

Re: Another ZU Charity Event

It sounds like a cool idea, but someone fill me in. How does Heart Piece work? Does it just ask ZUers to donate money to whatever cause?

(Also, who's in charge of Heart Piece? Eve and... who?)

I believe there is a thread, which can answer your questions. (Of course, I've never been there, so this is a guess.)

I also support this idea. Now, I just have to think of some suggestions and whatnot....

No, don't tell me to go find a thread. I hate being told to go search for it. Give me a quick few sentence summary of how Heart Piece goes about getting donations.

Saywha?

Anyways!

DogDog: Heart Piece was the charity group we started for ZU. Basically, the aim is to help other already established charities since we're just a newbie group. Bex and I were the ones mostly getting it started back in the beginning.

The first run didn't work out too well-- trying to donate to Child's Play.

So, now, Pani has proposed the group try to raise funds for a cancer organization. Basically.

Wow, this is a lot more confusing than I thought it'd be. XP

Re: Another ZU Charity Event

What ever happened to the HP thread, was it in hte CC zone?
Anyways, that's beside the point. I think this would be a perfect prject for HP to take on. It's something alot of people can relate to and it's somehting very personal to the ZU community. We'd have to figure out what cancer society to donate to. I would assume one based close to Hylie's family?

Re: Another ZU Charity Event

This still hasn't started yet... well, lets see..

Start with a cancer organization:

There's the Skin Cancer Organization

Or the UK's cancer research center.
Can anybody else think of any other good suggestions?

Re: Another ZU Charity Event

Is there some international ones? I think they'd be best because people might feel hesitant about donating to a foreign charity as oposed to local.

No idea! I just did a search. I tried to keep it close to England because that's where Duncan lived his life.

That makes sense. I'm sure people would be willing in that case.

Isn't that localized in America, though? I think it'd be more appropriate to find something that's either in England or inter-national.

What about the international union against cancer? (UICC) They were originally based in Switzerland I believe but over years have expanded to throughout the world. I heard about them from a friend who knows someone at my local hospital.

St. Jude's hospital is a world-wide recognised hospital and research in the development of childhood cancer treaments and hopefully cures. They help the world, when you think about it, being atthe forefront of the search for a cure

Re: Another ZU Charity Event

Oh, but Saber's suggestion sounds good too.

I'd say UICC, St. Judes, the Skin Cancer Organization (since that's what specifically affected him) are probably some good contenders.

Sorry about lack of suggestions on my part. All I'm good for is the main idea. D: I'm glad that it's in motion, though.

Yeah, I thought this was going to be mostly your shtick, Pani. =P Just promise to help out. <3 Anyways, I see no reason for this to remain in the coordinator's corner, so I'm moving it out to the public.
