Zelda Universe Newsletter

I was just wondering how many people would be interested in a Zelda Universe Newsletter. We have several people who say that they would like to work on it, but we don't know whether it would be something appreciated by the members.

Here are some of the current ideas for the newsletter:
  • A summary of the latest in ZU events to keep everyone updated
  • A summary of the latest in Zelda-related news
  • A showing of the fanfiction/fanart/graphic design work of the month from ZU's members
  • Perhaps a comic strip?

Any further ideas are welcome.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

People have a better chance at appreciating it if it was on the forums, not the main site. Thats my suggestion.

Well, the idea of a monthly newsletter is that if you subscribe it gets sent to you by mail, it's not on the forums or the main site. I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

Like you can post it as an announcement or something, more people would see it. Or you could put it into our subscriptions or something.

Yeah, there are many ways to implement the newsletter, come to think of it. Using the announcements or thread subscriptions would also be a good way to do it.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

What? Why not, you guys?

I think this is a brilliant idea, Cody! I'd love to help out with it if it becomes official. I've been told I'm a good editor. I'm up for hire. ^^

I think we can have the fanfic/art piece/sig of the month like you said, and have that comic strip, as well as the articles, but we should also have news on Zelda games and perhaps Nintendo in general. Hey, you can also put what contests and stuff are going on in the art sections and the community section so people know about them. It would attract more competitors!

I'm not a very active member, so this would be a way for me to see when there is something relevant to me going on. To me the relevant is related more to Zelda (new games, new interviews etc.) than to Zelda Universe as such.

I agree with this, but more in a way of mixing the news. A newsletter to show what's going on.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

Usually news letters are mail subscriptions. In which case, we can totally do this. But somebody or many-bodys would have to really work and get it written each time we want to send it (weekly?). I'm all for something like this.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

Well I don't come here alot don't see the point of it. You finish zelda and that's the end.

The only good reason would be to include stuff about new upcomming zelda games. I really don't care about fanart or old blabla stuff.

News about new features and stuff are welcome. So like only when new games of zelda are comming out else instant delete

That's what the point of the newsposts on the main site are for. I'm fairly sure that this newsletter would have a (ZU) community thing to it, perhaps partially, perhaps mostly, perhaps entirely.

I agree, it will be interesting and perhaps it will bring more people back or to ZU. Again great idea.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

I think is a good idea, not only for our own expression as fan art and stuff but as a way to talk about what Zelda is all about: THE GAME... we love zelda games! i think it should be a requirement to have gone through Ocarina of Time to be member of this website!!! (just kiddin....) But seriously, I woulnt like it if just unofficial stuff comes by. Anyway, is a great idea!

That's awesome. A Link I give to you

But I agree with Hakudoshi23, Red, and Buttgoat. A newsletter going to current (or former/less-often-visiting) members would be great not only as information relating to new games, fan art/fic, and upcoming Zelda Universe events, but would also help promote the site (i.e. users could show the newsletter/articles/events to their Zelda-loving nonmember friends and encourage membership with ZU). For those of us in college or similarly occupied, a newsletter would be a nice summary of what's going on, and we can just skim if there's something important we're interested in or would like to know. For example, at the top of my college newsletter, there's a table of contents with just the titles of each of the articles, and we know right away if it's worth reading, which is along the lines of what vree is talking about. Plus, if the administrators try it for, say, a month and it doesn't go over well or it doesn't accomplish what it meant to, then they can move it to a website news spot or something similar to what Acid, Cody, and Sabbo are discussing.

Re: Zelda Universe Newsletter

Its a good idea, adding fanart and sig of the week, this idea could work, i subscribe to many newsletters. Would it be monthly or weekly? If it was monthly, you could make it better because there is alot of time, and if it was weekly, it would just be a simple thing that has info or etc.
Or it could be every 2 weeks and that will make it better.

Most members who have been here for a while stopped caring for Zelda after their first year activity. That's excluding the Zelda theorizers, though.

I'm supporting the idea as long as we have people from the BA as our editors/writers or someone with an English writing degree.
