Fight Five: Essay Competition

Because of the nature of essay writing, it only makes sense to give the competitors ample time to create their entries. That being said, we are going to go ahead and start the essay competition while the haiku battle finishes up to make the most effective use of our time.

Alrighty! *cracks knuckles* This is the Official Essay Competition thread! The first post of this thread will contain key information and important updates.

If you are interested in how a teammate's essay is coming along, that's fine, but any discussion of actual essay content must be kept to a PM. It is up to the essaysist's discretion whether or not they wish to disclose any information.

Contestants: I would recommend you PM your teammates general outlines of what your essay will include, so as to avoid overlappage.

Rules and Regulations: The Essay Battle will require each Contestant from each Team to create and write an entire Essay relating to gender issues in the modern world. Essays may have the same subject, but the ideas must be original and distinct in each Essay. Works Cited is not required. You have ONE week to submit your essay to myself for the Lassies, and PowerShot for the lads.

From there, you will have THREE additional days to tidy up and submit the final draft. Final drafts will be posted in a separate thread to reduce confusion.

Essays due to captians: Monday, September 22nd 11:59 PM whatever timezone you're in.

Final Essay due to be posted: Thursday, September 25th, 11:59 PM whatever timezone you're in.


Any other questions can be PMed to myself, Shigeru, Anime_Queen, or PowerShot, or can be posted in this thread. (But lets give the poor queen a breather for her holiday! <3)

I will be extending dates because things have been shuffled around. Also, Lassies, since Anime_Queen recently left and is now taking a leave of absence, I will take the liberty to read your essays and help revise them. So rather than PM Asia, PM me with your essay, and I'll go over it. (Don't worry, I've got some pretty good English skillz. ^_^)

Problem: Sapphira's MIA. She got tired of people not taking sexual harrassment/abuse/etc. topics seriously, and so left. I thought you knew, as she announced this in Farore.

the rubric doesn't make sense. in the one description, it says it's on a 5 point scale. then the rubric says there's all these different categories worth butt-loads of points. which is it?

The description is older, and the rubric was made by the judges.

I'd trust the rubric.

You're right, Sapphira did leave. I can try to contact her through other means to see if she'd participate, but more than likely not.

The girls will have to find a willing replacement to avoid serious damage to the score.

As for the rubric, that was created by the judges, who are in charge of that department. Since that one is more updated, I will edit out the judging bit from Shot's original post. Thank you for catching that!

For fancy fun clarification purposes, geo is supposedly writing an essay, and aside from Power Shot the other two boys' contestants are not officially confirmed (or is Linkmaster30000 confirmed?).

Either way, Kassi has no idea what's going on with the boys, and hasn't received any of their essays nor confirmation that their essays are finished, so I just wanted to bring this up for those participating.

I might be interested in joining this competition...or is it too late?

Well odds are Awkin won't be able to submit an essay, so you might be able to get in to this round. Power Shot'd be the one to ask about it though. :/

It's too late, Sabbo. Looks like I don't have the time anyways. Wasn't Sept 20th the deadline?

But as you can see by Lexxi's post, there's no word on any of the essays having been submitted yet.

But yeah, there might've been someone else. Crab Helmet was interested in doing more than just the Haiku, but I'm not sure if anything came from it.

Life has been getting a bit out of hand for me to do this. I'd try, but it would be horridly rushed and underdone.

Oy, Power Shot needs to lay off hitting on women for a moment.

Currently, the contestants from the Male team are myself, Awkin, and Virtigo. Both have been confirmed, and should be working.

Awkin's still able to do it? That's good to hear.

Awkin PMed me reconfirming his position, stating that he is now able to do it.

Guys, everyone needs to get the essays in ASAP. We can't keep putting off the battles, and as we're getting further into the school year I (and probably my fellow judges) am finding less and less times for catching up on my already behind marking.

It's more concrete than just saying "ASAP".

The girls are working. Two of the three have theirs returned. We will all make an effort to do this while at the best convenience for each member and judge.

EDIT: Erm, first post. 20th is outdated. The final draft is due the 25th. The turn-in thread will open sometime tomorrow morning.

I wasn't aware that the writers had been making progress and actually turning things in... I thought we were further behind than we actually were.

I haven't heard anything back from my other two competitors, but was informed that one should already be completed with the other to follow suit.

Alright, Mrs. Kasuto has made a boo-boo with the essay thread by forgetting to open it. Luckily for her, it's not midnight in her timezone yet. =P
