The ZU Charity Organization Thread: Let's do This!

Wouldn't it be something amazing if we could actually participate in a charity event? I mean, really, how many times do you hear of charitable groups that form on a web forum?

Basically, Mr. Lexxi Aileron and myself have been trying to come up with ideas for a charity that ZU can participate in. We can start with something small and easy, and if it's successful, graduate to bigger ideas.

Because our organization (The ZU members, that is) is online, that gives us a character trait: multi-national members. If we could somehow use that to our advantage, I think we could do something very successful for the world.

Most of our ideas seem to make sense if we have "regional managers" of some sort. Basically, if everybody can work with the ZU people in their area, it might be more effective.

It would probably be easiest if we all, as a unit, select one organization, and set a date and donate goods/funds by region upon ZU's behalf.

Some possible ideas:
  • Drawings for Children's hospitals
  • Care Packages for orphanages
  • Funds for organizations (Red Cross, PETA, etc)

Also, I know that many grocery stores in Southern California, at least, have donation events several times throughout the year. You donate a dollar, and are given a paper to write your name on and it will be posted on the wall. If we could do something like that, we could get several papers, and write "ZeldaUniverse.net" across them, or something. Not only would we be helping others, but that's advertisement to get numbers up. =)

What say you, crew? Lets start bouncing some ideas!

Re: The ZU Charity Organization Thread: Let's do This!

Kassi, I think that's a great idea! I'd love to be part of something like that. Have you ever heard of child's play? It's a charity backed by Penny Arcade (I'm not sure if they started it or not though) who collections donation in order to give less fortunate children the chance to enjoy video games. I personaly love that idea because I think (contrary to what many people think) in today's society, video games are an important part of developement for children. It isn't like they can just go running around out on the streets playing make belief, video gamming let's them grow thier imagination while still safe. Anywyas, that'll end up on a whole different topic. I think it would be cool to either take part in child's play, or if you were more thinking of setting up ZU's own thing, so something similar, mayby donate consoles (by consoles, I mean Wii's no PS3!) to hospitals or something like that.

Re: The ZU Charity Organization Thread: Let's do This!

Wow .. this is a fABUlous idea!

I am in complete total support!

Mattocks - interesting : o
I love the idea of donating old consoles to children's hospitals or orphanages :>

Kassi - regarding the drawings for Children's hospitals thing - I think I have a way where we can make it a lot more interactive with the ZU community and truly a comMUNity project!

How about, we have a "ZU Presents: " series or drawing storybooks? =DDDDD
"storybooks" as in ..

okayokay (I think this is a great idea!)

We come up with a story, collectively (or stoRIES) then we have different people draw different pages of it-

waitaitwait - nOT a comic! *laughs* but like a children's storybook! ^-^

OKAY. STARTING EXPLANATION AGAIN! :>

ZU Presents: Stories of Worth: A series.

Summary and goal: to produce a series of illustrations that tell a story, to be donated to a children's hospital, upon completion, as a whole set.

Method: alrighty, this could go two ways!
Either, - AH AH! I just got another ideAaAaa! xDD!!! (sorrysorry, ok I;ll stick to one for now xDDD )

- we, together, write different stories then split off the scenes/illustrations amongst us and each person illustrates their bit, then we all mail them to the person close to the hospital in question, or the "region manager". Alternatively, the Region Manager will then print off all the illustrations on A4 papers and either put them in a file together as a story, or they can be stuck up in the hospital play section in question in the correct sequence.

- alternatively, we make it like a game. The first person starts off the story by drawing an illustration and the words needed, and then the second person draws the next scene, making UP a story. See the "one sentence story" games that are often played on forums/the clans? something like that, but with an illustration as WELL as a sentence :>
that way, even WE will be constantly curious as to where the story is going ^-^

my LAST suggestion ... how about we make the stories involving "ZU heroes"?

How about we illustrate and draw stories OF ZU? or use ZU characters?

take into account they all have to be kid-friendly, which rules out Kara :< *laughs* just kidding, lass *ruffles hair*

You don't have to be an amazing artist - I wANt for there to be crappy stick figure drawings at some points, and Mafoofoo'ey Pain jobs. The stark differences in style and approach is what will make out "books" amazing!
- not to mention, the ZU humour.

ZU is fUNNy, guys, so, I know we'll have no problem producing some kickass humourful and fun stories! ^-^

so, thoughts?

How are you proposing we contribute to that issue, for example?

Well, the kid's name is Carley Hoffman. I was going to recommend viral spreading requests for donations throughout ZU and the Internet in general. One of my classmates gave me the information, and I thought it would be nice to help out a little kid by trying to get the word out.

Not that I don' like the idea of backing a charity, in fact I do, but I think if we are going to, child's play would be the best one to do. Think about it, we are a gamming based site, it's something we all have a passion for, and I think that it would better represent our community.

www.childsplaycharity.org
I've never looked that much into it before. Actualy, jusr from quickly reading the summary I found out they actualy donate everything from books to games, I was prviously under the impressinon it was only video games. But none the less, I still love the idea that if gammer can come together like all of us on the internet, we should also be able to come together for charity.

Everybody, I'm SO glad people are enthusiastic about this. All of the charitable ideas sound wonderful.

Anime_Queen, I'm VERY glad you're excited to help!

Also, bear in mind that this can be an on-going thing, so we can get several charities involved over time. I really like Asia's ideas about the hospital drawings. Those are always eye-catching to me. We could even have graphic artists e-mail ideas.

Guys, keep the ideas flowing. I like the direction this is headed!

Re: The ZU Charity Organization Thread: Let's do This!

I don't like the idea of the story book.

I mean, for our own amusement it'd be fun, but I just don't see it being very relevant to some random sick kid in a hospital.

"ok... some people from a website wrote a story about.. themselves...? Wow, suddenly the cancer doesn't feel so bad!"

no.

I think that whatever we do needs to be as relevant and accessable to any child or group that receives it. It just seems a bit narcissistic to glorify ourselves and then send it to some sick kids or whatever.

Margar, the book doesn't have to be about ZU'ers. Someone could write a nice story, or we could do our own version of a fairytail or fable.

I support this idea 1000000%

I like all of the ideas so far *laughs*

We should send stuff to war torn/tattered countries =3

As Slur said, I don't think it has to be about us, but I still kind of agree. So far it's sounding like the books is going to turn out like a realy long MadLibs. If we want to do a story book, then it would have to be a real, legit children's story book. Thought out, relevant, and not somehting just thrown together because we thought it was funny. I still support backing another charity, or even starting our own, which takes donations.

Re: The ZU Charity Organization Thread: Let's do This!

I still am partial to the story book idea, not so much about ourselves. (Although, one about us would be a nice community project for ZU's fun, but that's something else)

We could also just make drawings and books.

I do like the games idea, as well as gearing our charity toward a war-torn country.

Then, of course, there's the idea of our OWN charity, which would be completely amazing. Perhaps we can start with a few charitable acts, and then from there, try to make our own organization? It would just be a freaking awesome experience for us all to start up a charity. Gosh, how wonderful! Again, though, that sort of thing takes time, so it probably wouldn't be the first project on our agenda.

Re: The ZU Charity Organization Thread: Let's do This!

Zelda Universe should definitely lend a helping hand to those who need. I could use an extra few bucks or two.

Charities that provide funds actually make a significant difference. If ZU actually got together to send money to those less fortunate, I'd be astounded.

This org tends to be very good and effective; I've done service work for them before so I know they're good and legit.

I think feeding hungry youth is the most important thing we can do as citizens of the earth. There's more than enough food or potential for food in the world to feed everybody; we just need to put it where it needs to be.
