Keep in mind that I was correcting another Australian with those, who will have the same number of syllables in their words as I do.

ˈmāl - one

Just because you enunciate your words a little too much, doesn't mean other people do too xD I believe any of the judges would agree that those are the standard ways (listed above) of pronouncing sailboat and male.

I do not enunciate too much (although I won't claim you enunciate too little).

United Statesians pronounce the letter "A" weirdly a lot of the time anyway.
