Re: ZU Community Center: Got an idea for a project? Read First Post!

we would just need to collaborate a writing team and an illustrating team. we could use different styles of art for each book. maybe one could be illustrations by Asia. the next book could be illustrated bu Liah, etc... with each book, we could have a different writing team, too.

so for example, say for december, myself, Cody, and Blizz could work on the plot, and then write the story. then it can go to Asia for illustration, then we put the stuff together, and release it!
(those names are completely arbitrary and just for example)
then the next book, we can rotate to different team members. each "book" will have it's own feel and personality!

I don't know very much about Asia's idea, so any similarities are entirely coincidental.

Or...it could be a universal illustration style that anyone on the team could do. That way, we wouldn't have favorites and such "Oh, [insert name here] is behind the art of this particular book, so I'm going to help out with this one in particular and not care about anyone else." i.e. Popularity.

I like the writing team idea though. That could be tossed back in forth, especially if some people are busy.

well, each book would hopefully take maybe a month, and each book would require at team of maybe 4 people. I really don't think anyone would refuse to be on a team with someone they thought was less popular.

it's "back AND forth" not "back in forth" [/assyness]

It's called a typo. I have no idea why I did that.

Well, maybe.

"Hey, guys! Asia is working on this book! Let's join up!"

or

"Hey, guys! Blizzaga [or someone else way less popular than Asia] is working on this book! Let's join up!"

I'm pretty sure the former would take place.

I know what you mean, but if we start by first tossing out ideas for the books themselves (as you have already) then people can sign up for which one sounds fun to them, and if there are too many people who want to do one, then someone (maybe mylelf, asskey, or someone else "in charge" can pu them on another book team. we can't have 8 people working on one thing, you know

I was thinking... How about giving ZU a web 2.0 feel? Mainly, I was thinking, would be doing some programming on the forums and maybe something on the site.

Opinions, please.

But how would this be a community project? Sure it'd help out the website as a whole, but helping the community itself... I just can't see it.

On the other hand, if you're just wanting to help out with improving the site, I'm sure the webmasters would hear you out if you asked.

Well, I was actually thinking of a project that would connect the community a tiny bit more.

You know that huge list of people online at ZU at the bottom of the page? Well, I was thinking that maybe each member could have an IM sort of thing on ZU where you could IM the people on your friends list when they were on.

Now, of course this would be able to be turned off, and there would be other projects, but's mainly what I had in mind.

So, opinions?

I see...

I think that this is the kind of suggestion better suited for FSQ then; I can see that the community would benefit, but they can't exactly get very involved in making it. (Oh, and that IM idea is basically covered by the visitor message system. :/ )

Sabbo is right. it's a nifty idea, but is definately better suited for FSQ.

Well, I was thinking that I would have a small(Three person) team of coders under my command, and all of us could give suggestions to the new features...

Hmm... But that IM thing is sort of redundant... Any suggestions?

Re: ZU Community Center: Got an idea for a project? Read First Post!

community central is for community members to work on projects and organize fun events together... but if the "project" you want to do has a direct effect on this webside (codes, applications, etc) that needs to be addressed in fsq with the approval of the webmasters. for example, a group of students in school could get together and organize a car-wash, but if some students wanted to re-wire the comuter lab, that's something they'd have to take up with administration, and probably would not end up doing that job themselves. they could suggest it,but it would have to be approved...

I see... Well, if I'm even going to ask for approval I need suggestions to implement. I doubt Jase would want me screwing with his site without a reasonable goal, you know?

Re: ZU Community Center: Got an idea for a project? Read First Post!

the people whowould be best to help you with suggestions will be more likely jump in and help you if you suggested it in FSQ. I don't want suggestions of that type being discussed in here because then people will get the wrong idea as to what this forum is for (and we already have a bit of that problem now). So, I'm not saying your idea is bad, only that I urge you to discuss it in FSQ, where that kind of discussion is held. there have been other dicussions of that nature in that forum which have led to the things being implememnted before. if you truly want your idea heard and considered and discussed, I'm sure the best place is in FSQ.

tl:dr that's not what this forum is for, go take it to FSQ!!! *no offense, dear*
