Skype Night: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

Skype Night: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen]

Just when you thought that Sunday was only about spousal coitus and monster truck rallies comes: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen Game of Improvisation and Libations.

This is essentially a story improvisation game which will be played via Skype call this Sunday (02/12/2012) (02/19/2012) at 18:00 16:00 eastern standard time. Note that this time is negotiable upon request. Players will assume the role of a noble, similar to Baron Munchausen, and begin to tell a fantastical story involving myth, history, fantasy, and general nonsense. Players will also challenge the story teller with interjections. See this, for example:

Challenger: “But, my dear Baron von Kleineschwanz, how did you manage to impregnate the pope when you suffered that ghastly injury in the Second Friso-Gotlandian War of Succession?”

The player can respond to this in a number of different ways, but if the player can successfully (and amusingly) explain away the contradiction and weave it into his story, that player gets some sort of a token (or alternatively downs a shot).

At the end, the player with the most votes, or coins, or downed shots, or whatever wins. Obviously, the point of the exercise is not the victory, but the fact you get to drink, improvise, and be silly. Since this is a game of improvisation, it would be bad form to prepare a story beforehand.

I confess, I haven’t played this game, but I am definitely excited about it and thought this would be a good opportunity to get to know the community better. If you’re interested, message me on Skype. My contact information is in my user information.

If this is fun, I might try and make this a regular feature.
I don’t think this will be a problem, but this will be on a first come first serve basis, and in the (extremely unlikely) event the number of people gets too great, I’ll reserve the right to ask that you simply observe the game.

Here is a more in depth description of the rules for your collectivel digestion.

To give everybody a rough idea of what the world of Baron Munchausen consists of, here is a synopsis through Wikipedia:

Re: Skype Night: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

I'll need to read about it, but I do enjoy improvisation, forum theatre being one of my favourite activites

Definately going to see about joining this. Though, it'll be 11pm when it starts my time so it'd be nice if it starts earlier, though I don't want to cause too big an issue. I'll probably only be staying til 1am anyway, unless I'm entranced by a particularly interesting story

What time is 16:00 EST in GMT? Because I won't be able to stay up super late on Sunday night (I get up early for work weekdays). Can we not hold it on a Saturday? I'd have thought that would be better all round, no?

Yup yup--every Sunday at 16:00 EST. Just assume it's at that time unless otherwise posted. These sessions have been, despite massive amounts of collateral damage and spontaneous impregnation, loads of fun. Don't forget to add me on Skype to get placed in the Skype thread. I hope to see all of you there.

I had fun the last time I played this (despite having an accent that wobbled from Russian to Chinese to Scottish and beyond). I will definitely play again when my internet is working again.
