On the down-low, those involved with the selection process for ZUer of the Week have been discussing a surprise highlight for Gamzee. (Secretly!) I'm glad to be the one to write up this post for him.
I was one of those who originally recommended Gamzee to his staff position. He was almost unanimously selected to the position, and as the moderator to the Virtual Character Reality section, he single-handedly breathed life into the section. He set the precedent for a fun, airy environment that members of ZU could roleplay in. What people need to understand is that before Chris took a hold of this area, it was dead and on the verge of deletion as a failed experiment, but Chris took it while it was at its lowest and it now stands as one of our more active RPing boards.
From there, I requested that Gamzee be added in as a mod for the Writing section. He was probably the only person I trusted at the time to uphold the policy I had there. He set up the poetry contest, participated in our discussions in the Writers' Pad, and generally helped to move the community-feeling there forward.
Behind the scenes, Gamzee had a hand in pretty much every discussion. When it was brought up, he pursued the idea of giving a monthly report in the FSQ. He came up with the War Room, an area for casual discussion in the Serious Discussion forum which has been instrumental in establishing a less hostile and more community orientated environment within in our most controversial and sensitive board. With Notsil, Gamzee created ZUer of the Week, and he continues to be its driving force today.
Now he's a section mod for the Community section. Our leetle child has grown~
I've known Chris for awhile now. He was the second or third member on ZU that I actually became close with. I think it was our writing that brought us together, but we soon realized we shared a similar sense of humor and personality. I've had discussions with him that have ranged from how to properly introduce a character or create a certain mood in a story, to spirituality, to cooking, to advice, etc etc. He's a really easy person to talk to when you strike a chord with him.
Expanding on personal relationships, his loyalty knows no limits. I think I can safely say, on behalf of anyone here who is lucky enough to count Chris as a friend, that he is incredibly caring, funny, there when you need him and strong when you don't feel like picking yourself back up.
Contrary to popular belief, I'm actually really awful with words. I don't formulate my thoughts or feelings into words properly. So, I'm going to hand this post off to some friends for a moment: Liah: "This was organised weeks ago, making you ZUer of the Week. Everyone was told but you. Because we love you. Well, this all feels... pretty good. Not gonna lie, I suspected at some point I'd be the ZUer of the Week. But this week I completely forgot about it until the day of and, lo and behold, YOU WERE SNOOPING AROUND MY BACK.
I'm not really sure what to say. I guess it's kind of funny how I went from being some thirteen year old troll who wrote horrible fanfictions to being an accomplished poet, a member of the forum staff, and a close friend and inspiration to multiple people. It's nice to know that a lot of you guys care about me and value me, and the feeling is mutual. The only direction I plan on going from here is up. Up, up, up!
Thank you. It's been quite the ride, I practically grew up while a member of these forums and 2006 me is a drastically different person than current me.
